>why would it be insane to use 70 rolls as the cost?
You are going in on a banner with no pity rollover, expecting that you will not be unlucky and just simply hit at EX value is the said insanity. My EX(rolls to get gold) = ~70 was generous too as it comes from the "overall drop rate" of 1.42%, not the fixed 0.3%. I dont know where some hidden pity engages, If I count only the 0.3% and the guarantee at the end with a capped geom distribution, I get an expected value of ~79 rolls to compare it to the ingame 1.42%..., so there must be some extra pity, I assume at the "end" of the 90 rolls. As I dont know where that lies (am I blind?) it could be an increased rate on the 89th roll for all I know.
The expected value without any cap and hidden pity is ~333 btw, kek. Good luck getting lucky without hidden autism.
Anyway, if you go in thinking "Anyone that actually went for the Psyche skin got it for less than that." you are in for a world of hurt one day.
>bonus rolls
Didnt even knew there was stuff like this, neat I guess, with this, to get 90 rolls is around {20 free roll from rolling to 80 + $52.5 for 29 rolls from the recommended shop that gives limited time rolls with better rates + from phoxene plumule for the leftover 41 rolls, 6560 needed, ~$100 without double - } = ~$153 for 90 rolls on the banner. (~$113 if you count the first time double for the currency, but cmon now...)
Free ~10 roll gibs will make it cheaper, surprisingly not THAT cheaper if you are not going for the biggest pack, getting more plums that you need in the process.

>but that’s not really how live-service balancing actually works. PvE games nerf constantly to control power creep, fix unintended interactions, or reflect evolving design philosophy.
Touché, I may focused a bit too much on PvP vs PvE to make a point on the source of asshurt on nerfs. (Btw Path of Exile is also a bad example, as you cant buy skin for nerfed stuff, mostly character skin and hideout where money goes. The skill skins that directly affected by nerfs are negligible. I may have not played Warframe, but thats a good example I cant argue with.)
>If this game does experience a violent, negative reaction to balance changes, it won’t be because it’s PvE. It would be because parts of the playerbase are carrying over cultural baggage from traditional gacha games
Yeah, that might be it, we will see.
