My recommendation: find your favorite chibi then build a same-personality team around her.
Like most gachas, Trickcal has it's own elemental system called "personalities." Matching 6 chibis with the same personality increases your stats by a lot and for bonsaige autobattlers, stats are everything. You will be able to clear harder stages thanks to those stats and that stage will reward you with ways to increase your stats even more, so on.
About personalities: five personalities in the game are Depressed (purple), Vivacious (yellow), Innocence (green), Composed (blue), and Mad (red). Similar to that one monster tamer franchise: Mad deals more damage to and takes less damage from Innocence. Innocence interacts the same way with Composed, Composed the same way with Mad. Depressed and Vivacious however don't interact with the three elements and just deal extra damage to each other with no damage reduction in play.
Important because enemies and Crusade (campaign) worlds also have personalities with the same interactions. For example a Composed enemy will take less damage from your Mad chibi while dealing more damage to her, heavily increasing stat requirements to beat that enemy/stage. This is not a problem for Depressed and Vivacious teams, they only interact with each other and even if your Depressed chibi takes more damage from a Vivacious enemy she's also dealing more damage to that enemy and its not a lose-lose situtation like a Mad chibi interacting with a Composed enemy.
That's why newbies are told to focus on a Depressed or Vivacious team first, then start branching out to other personalities. You can use them in almost all content and coincidentally they have the strongest chibis right now.
Other than that, best time to start is today. Lots of free loot events during this 100th day anniversary patch. Epica, banner unit of the patch, is a really strong damage dealer/buffer support Vivacious chibi. She will carry you through Crusade and the patch event without a big investment and will be relevant for quite a while.
Most importantly: take your time and enjoy the game. It's going to be a while before this place gets some activity but I'll try to answer any other questions if you don't want to deal with 4/trick/.
