Ruan Mei came out in the last patch of 1.x and was ultimately a huge part of break teams to the point where people were crying because they skipped her to save for 2.0 but now regretted it when Firefly came out. A lot of people seem to be pushing that same attitude on Constance and I dunno...I feel like people are going to regret it in six months when they have to pull for a Dahlia rerun AND Himiko SP.

The above 3 points can be summmarised under "I don't like Shaoji's writing", there's a noticeable increase in long-windedness and reiteration of concepts in the last 3 patches, I have a hunch the first 4 patches were written by Fanchuan, then Shaoji took over but the ground work has already been set for 3.4 so it turned out as the best story patch in the game. I didn't like 3.6, it felt like it was stalling the story just to introduce Darch and Dante, it'd flow better if their subplots were written into some earlier point. What I liked: I liked most of the rest of the story, it was interesting to follow, both the flamechase part and the overarching conflict. I liked the cast a lot, the whole group felt very tight knit with fun interactions all around. I didn't like Phainon at first but 3.4 made him a lot more sympathetic. I didn't like Cyrene at first and she's still one of my least favourite flamechasers but 3.7 did a decent job justifying her feeling like an outsider, ironically I loved most Mem interactions and I still think Mem looks way better than either humanrene design, I'd swipe for the hat if I were playing as Smelle. I liked the areas a lot, whereas Belobog resembles a more grounded JRPG setting like Trails and Luofu and Penacony just feel like "space <country>", Amphoreus is full of areas that evoke the grandeur of Xenoblade. The ruins in 3.7 also really reminded me of Dreg heap from DS3. I liked the music, this goes for most areas in the game really, even Penacony had a lot of memorable tracks, but I just wanted a reason to mention I'm still seething you can't set the track from As I've written to the phonograph and now that Amphoreus is over it's likely never getting added. I liked the area exploration, this ties in with the previous two points because of how good it feels just walking around the place and the actual topography and puzzles felt sufficiently engaging. I liked some positive trends in presentation, in particular the anime cutscenes. Sucks that they're relegated to the main shill characters only, but for Phainon and Cyrene they at least felt justified in the context of the story and the devs would never add anime cutscenes to every patch anyways. On a similar note I got a massive grin on my face when the Amphoreus - Saga of heroes trailer played in full after Darch and DanTe officially joined the flamechase. All that said, while I'm not as outright defeatist as I felt by the end of 2.x I'm still keeping my hopes low for 4.x as it's shaping up to be another rewrite hell like Penacony.

You could argue it's disproportionately long for the impact but not like the narrative isn't moving at a glacial pace either way.

They also kind of touch on the weird thing that happened at the end of her animated short, which I guess wasn't metaphorical after all. To be honest this patch, while a bit weirdly structured, is actually filling a lot of holes that were in the story.

I finished the story, I like this rewrite of Penacony's ending way more than the first time. Sunday realizing Order also sucks and becoming a brand new Aeon makes way more sense. We actually got to see what the fuck Firefly was doing, which was completely cut out of the original Penacony for seemlingly no reason. The only things I dislike about the patch are Acheron and using the bugs AGAIN. Making the world feel really small by using the same antagonist all the time, surely there are some other uppity Aeons of the past to use. I hate how Acheron knows literally everything, all the time. She should be a complete mongoloid, where the FUCK is she getting her info from? It makes sense for Memokeepers to know everything about the past, that's their entire deal. The Stellaron Hunters have their script, so they get to know a ton of weird shit from the future. I can even allow Sparkle knowing a ton of shit she shouldn't because she can pretend to be people. But Acheron should know NOTHING other than "me swing red sword", she has no info network that we know of, she's not working with either of the memokeepers, why the fuck does she know MORE THAN THE MEMOKEEPERS?
