Problem with overworld difficulty is just how terrible was the decline in difficulty for very VERY stupid reasons. Let's recap:

People were right that sometimes the samurai being able to oneshot a character in a charged hit and certain puzzles(rotating blocks) were poorly programmed to be more viable to cheese them with an off fielder was grating but completely forgot how great it was to have "secret" areas like the araumi underground or Seirai's electric lake puzzle where you had to figure shit out on your own. Then GAA2 happened where people complained about the amount of puzzles and no compass. What did mihoyo do? Add both compass and make difficulty stupidly easy in future summer events. BIG FUCKING MISTAKE

Sumeru is fucking hueg, puzzles up the ass, excellent big scope puzzle(pyramids, hollow forest mountain...) BUT all the normal individual puzzles are suddenly kindergardener level, and to top that off dendro was so stupidly strong that outside of abyss all the elites(roided emerites, consecrated beasts...) were a joke. So we got a lot of content but it was more by numbers than actual difficulty.

Fontaine more or less followed a similar philosophy but it was clear that only the new fatui agents and the newly introduced optional local legends were somewhat challenging, Meka were literally easier to kill then emerites and puzzles again, a lot of variety but all dumb, only interesting secret content was the underground factory up north. Have to add that Remuria was when quests started to become insultingly linear.

Full blown climbing/running aids and npcs grabbing your arm and giving you instructions for everything. Only the local legends are challenging but again optional and the rewards are small, Dino poachers are as weak as Fontaine's meks and wyobs are only a little more dense because you are encouraged to use Natlan natives.
The problem is that at it's core this game is still an ARPG but the devs don't treat it as such because an rpg is supposed to get more difficult as the story advances, and mihoyo did it correctly when transitioning from mond, to liyue then to Inazuma but then they stopped and not only that but reversed course and made every country more and more casual.
