They did spot on with a strong majority of the characterization and the dialogue was tight and in tune with the game's writing imo. As someone who reads the stories except VBS, I think they nailed a the essence of the game's spirit on the big screen. It was cool to see all the characters fully animated. I had more than a few laugh out loud moments. It was also definitely more cohesive than I thought it'd be with the giant cast of 25 OCs. I think it makes sense they focused on the main plot and sort of sidelined/montaged the rest, but it wouldn't have made total sense or necessarily been easy to follow for people not familiar with the series, which is a bit :(. I'm mostly just glad I got to see the movie exist at all in my lifetime as a lifelong vocaloid fan and tbh this is the first time I've actually been hyped for any movie in theaters my entire life. The after live really sold me on the experience. I would have given a standing ovation, but I don't have the guts. I'm seriously debating seeing it again in theaters, but I probably won't have the time.
If you like the game at all, I really recommend seeing the movie in theaters if possible. This is from someone who's seen literally 5 movies in theaters total.
