The discussions yesterday went well, but I'm gonna simplify things to mitigate long response chains.
Today, I wanna talk more about tacticool. This has always been RI's bread and butter, but you see it in Rhine Lab and BSW as well.
What do you like the most about Arknights' approach to tacticool, and what do you think is missing the most? This could be design-related, issues with quantity etc.
>personal opinion
By virtue of largely being locked to RI, our tactical ops have been few and far between. Across 6 1/2 years we've only received a handful of E.Os, several of which are gamemode-locked. Raidian and Logos are proof of popularity, but in spite of that, HG has opted for nationality-based themes instead. Even when RI Operators get alters (e.g. Op Reserve A1) their designs don't always feel tactical. Exceptions do exist (Greyy2, Fang2 etc.) but they don't fill the gap on their own. There's also the issue of collab alters, which forever took Yato + Noir Corne. I suppose the best case scenario is to receive more 3/4* alters, but I also can't help but wonder if certain factions have been left behind (i.e. BSW), worsening the issue.
As for the tactical wear itself: RI's color palette is iconic, so no need to change that. I believe tacticool works best when it cooperates with the character's distinctive appeal. Take Raidian for instance: you have the traditional RI fit, but her robotic arms, pink gloves, and the tattoo of the bird on her coat do wonders for characterization without detracting from the general theme. Mechanist adopts a similar approach through his various gadgets and his broad replacement of cyan with yellow. Contrast both of these with Tulip, who fails to pop out in part because she lacks a vibrant color, while her weapon is completely uninspired. Her tail looks kind of cool, but because of its color it's easy to miss. Given a bolder design and an improved palette, Tulip could probably emulate the first two's success while establishing her own charm.
Side note about weapons: obviously, they don't have to be guns. Tactical equipment isn't restricted to shooty bits, take electronic warfare for instance (alongside increasing capability of drones). However, if you're going for a non-standard tactical weapon, it has to avoid feeling anachronistic. Stormeye's bow is half-rendered, and it almost looks like it's made of rock. A lot more could have been done here, especially given HG's intent regarding crossbows as a 'modern' weapon. If you're going to commit to such an idea, then have the attachments match the use.
