/dtg/ - Drawing Tablet General Anonymous 04/20/2025 (Sun) 08:42:07 No. 235
Discuss drawing tablets here, whether it's display tablets, non-display tablets, android tablets, or iPad. Art by: Hitomi Kariya made on Huion Kamvas Pro 16 Plus (4K) https://x.com/KRY_aia/status/1452817082073030656

Now that the paid shills have lost the Mandate of Heaven maybe we can have a real discussion here. For good and ill here is the old tablet thread from /loomis/ (https://8chan.moe/loomis/res/2780.html)
>>248 This is very good, but also wanted to bring up there is a mode for wacom (and huion also I believe) tablets to alleviate this issue. It's called precision mode. You can do incredibly precise and controlled drawing using that. All it does is shrink the screen portion of your tablet settings temporarily, giving you an even more 1:1 ratio between physical input and digital output to the monitor. Monitors can be pretty large these days, so it can be absolutely game changing.

>>258 I'm aware of precision mode but I find it to be an insufficient half measure. Drawing is a lifetime pursuit and the idea that one should use anything short of the best option available even from square one is incredibly short sighted. The whole tablet should be as close to "precision mode" as possible with no button presses necessary and that's the experience you get with a large tablet paired with a modestly sized display, 24-inches or smaller. An Intuos 3 or higher tablet with stylus can be purchased for often much less than $200 pretty consistently and what is that, two days' worth of a minimum wage job in a western country? It's not worth fiddling with a smaller tablet when you understand what an impediment it is and you realize the durability of tablets that had been manufactured even 20 years prior
>>317 Oh of course, definitely in full agreement with you there. Anything less than a medium-sized tablet is not a great idea; large tablets in general are a pretty good idea. I personally manage with my old Intuos 4 Medium and a 28-inch monitor. Precision mode is going to be my heavy lifter even if I moved to a larger tablet. I feel a lot of nostalgia for this stupid tablet even though the active area is horribly sized relative to the entire physical size haha. One of the downsides of the older models.
>>324 You're in a unique position to upgrade for a very marginal sum and I'd strongly consider doing so, especially with a 28 inch display. While I've faced stubborn resistance from a few close friends, no one I'd successfully convinced to upgrade has regretted it. It's an objective, essentially lifetime improvement to your digital drawing experience and you ought to not let either a small amount of money or sentimentality prevent you from giving yourself access to the best tools of our trade. https://www.ebay.com/itm/375987329165 You can find these guys all day with no stylus for under $70, $50 even, look for one that looks to be in good cosmetic condition from a reputable seller; you won't regret it
>>348 A very logical and sound argument. I'll heavily consider this to be one of my next purchases.

>>361 Good to hear. If you have a laptop a Medium isn't a bad backpack option, so you don't necessarily have to part with what you already have forever. If you're a line artist in particular though the ability to include your elbow and shoulder into your drawing will quickly become indispensable
Huh, Huion made android tablet too?
