Ball pen drawing Anonymous 04/20/2025 (Sun) 10:02:49 No. 238
Trying to improve drawing with a ball pen, I suck at drawing in general. Any advice? Also I only have been drawing nude women so that maybe is the reason there is barely any improvement :P

>>238 focus on getting better at drawing overall first then you can mess around with the pen. Study the fundamental(anatomy, gesture, proportion, ect) draw with a ref and you'll get there.
>>239 These go hard as fuck dude. Especially the third one. How long have you been drawing?
>>238 Are these from reference or no? First draw from reference if you’re not already. Second overlay your drawing onto the reference to see how close you were. You need to be able to copy references accurately before you do anything else. Ideally you want to be able to draw both men and women but focusing on one or the other won’t really hinder your progress in the long run.

>>239 those drawings look cool, going to try copying their looks from now on. Also I completely fucked up the hand
did it again but this time without fucking it up that badly (face looks off)

>>252 >>257 If you want to copy their style then I suggest you lean how to cross hatch.
>>265 >>243 >>239 I want to marry those asses. The cellulitis in >>243 is fantastic. I'm going to get me some ballpoint pens now
>>269 just get the multi colors one, there is a three pack with 10 different colors by BIC
>>265 Not to act superior but I don't think I'm that bad with cross hatching rn, I don't make it as obvious as he does (I don't want to make every figure look like it's oiled) and I don't apply it properly. I mostly want to try and copy the way it was done here >>239 (image 1)
>>271 here's a more over the top version

>>271 I'll be blunt, your hatching is not as good as you think. Yours is messy and all over the place with little to no purpose. If you want to copy the that image then use less line but be direct on where you want to use them. Look at the images I posted, he uses the hatching as basic shading following the contours on the body.
>>276 well going to focus on that more then
You guys know any good books on cross-hatching and such? I could look that up but I'd rather have your first-hand account
>>299 I only know of two, Pen and Ink Drawing: A Simple Guide by Alphonso Dunn and Rendering in Pen and Ink by Arthur L. Guptill
>>293 >>276 Looking at my drawing and his drawings after a cup of coff,e and you really are right. Don't know why I was arguing it with you. Going to buy some new ball pens and actual paper after this, now that I've an artist I want to surpass. Thank you!
Bought some better pens and a sketch book, I think I'm becoming better at it, read some guides. The head was an afterthought which I fucked up
>>374 good luck buddy, rooting for you. Just remember to study the fundamentals.
>>238 IMO the arms are too thin and wiry
are you all drawing in pen to force yuorselves to commit to your strokes?
>>584 there that and also the look of a pen drawing.

here is some more ball point pen work that I found
>>653 Using primarily blue ink with sparing bits of black where needed is such a cool idea, I'll have to try that.
