For people who do traditional to digital work flow do you ever end up enjoying the touch up process or is it like a sweatshop forever <3 I will need to do it soon but I have 1,000,000 sketches to finish .
>>114 Yeah you are right, I tend do draw one of the face sides wider than they should be.
Did a little bit of construction practice for rotation of the spine(second image being my inspo); it's blatantly obvious I couldn't figure out the perspective of the hips and therefore couldn't construct the glutes and other leg muscles so I didn't even try; could also be that I'm still not ready for figure drawings and should go back to grinding Robertson's perspective techniques.

/beg/. will i ever get my fp back
>>137 You can begin figure drawing whenever, it's an independent skill
>>137 is that toriel drawing yours?
>>137 >second image being my inspo oh sorry i cant read why are you drawing a fat ass bodacious venus GODDESS with tiny little square boxes? You will never draw a balanced figure by drawing massess with different centers of mass and volumes If you look at actual human xrays or digital xrays of figures in motion youll see that the skeleton looks weird an unnatural when its isolated, thats because its swimming in a suit made of flesh, and youre drawing one fleshy suit, starting from the skeleton is extremely counter-intuitive Dont get me wrong, knowledge is power, and knowing where the bones could be located in a body like this might help you in some way but its definetely not a good approach of drawing such a character from the ground up
>>11 Not the biggest server but it's pretty comfy https://discord.gg/yGVAEq5W
How does one draw/sketch hair? I see people just use two to three lines and it looks like hair, but when I do it looks like my characters got the Norwood reaper
>>168 work from big to small. big clumps is better then single strains.
>>168 The ones on the first page look ok enough (for /beg/ standards). Basically you learn hair the same way you learn any other part of the body, study references, learn the patterns, break it down into simple shapes then add details. There’s no trick to it, but you do have to study it on its own.

>>168 you got to feel the direction its going, but depends on your style i guess
>>179 Nothing really “special” about him per se, but he has some good videos that show him doing good figure drawings in a very short amount of time, so it’s a good example to strive for. >>182 Any monkey can learn to copy a photo ref, it doesn’t require talent. Just time and grinding.

>>193 me too straight up i miss my goon content rolemodel i have no fckn motivation right now without someone else to inspire me
>>194 >i miss my goon content rolemodel who?
>>194 Honestly it's been a long time since I was active daily on /ic/ so my motivation is about where it was previously. If 4chan goes away forever though it would be awful for internet culture in general though, which is something that actually MIGHT hurt my motivation long term. So many smaller projects got big via exposure on 4chan.
>>157 So figure out what fat I'm drawing first, and then base the drawings of the muscles off of that? Your answer is helpful, but it doesn't seem to suggest a methodology.

>>200 I miss perilfag/grotesque proportions porn comic guy
>>199 >>201 When in Rome, Do as the Romans Do. You're drawing a fat character, so how come you're trying to draw muscles? The artist you're using as inspiration/ref doesn't care about arm muscles here, nor should you here. Take on their mindset and adopt a 2d-shape focused mentality. As a beginner, and at any skill level, you need to take on challenges that are appropriate for your skill level (challenges that you are capable of succeeding at with effort). Use real photo references where you can actually see the muscles. Right now, what you're trying to do isn't any different from trying to invent muscles from imagination. And when you do that and you lack the knowledge to do it, you're relying on some random person to come along and redline your anatomy mistakes. You should aim to be self-sufficient by using references that actually contains the visual information you need. You copy the reference once, you put the reference away and then you draw it from memory, or at least something very close to it. The reference then becomes your answer key, your personal anatomy expert that will show you everything you drew wrong.

>>422 the painterly style you used coulld be great for describing the food's texture visualy i think for foods like fruit, meats, pastries, glazed foods and sauces. you can indulge a bit on the highlights for ice cream, since it is frozen, i would put a subtle sparkle effect on it for bread and other carbs the highlights are there but more toned down and subtle
>>431 those fanart pics you drew are super cute and the nature studies do a good job catching the eye, have you ever thought about drawing a full on background?
>>432 >for ice cream, since it is frozen, i would put a subtle sparkle effect on it to clarify, i was saying to add sparkles because it would be how the light reflects off of the ice crystals i believe though you wont find this on google pictures, but if you go and get some local ice cream or ice cream from a market, you see ice crystals in those way more

>>406 I hate my ears.
>>450 The hand’s fucked up but overall that’s not that bad. You could pass this off as a quirky style you’re going for. What you might be picking up on is that you’re symbol drawing a flat ear instead of angling it to align with the angle of the head.
(18.64 KB 128x115 target.png)

>>452 >The hand’s fucked up but overall that’s not that bad Aware. I tried making it more cartoonish, as Mickey gloves, but the indicator finger is somehow twice as big as others. >What you might be picking up on is that you’re symbol drawing a flat ear instead of angling it to align with the angle of the head. To be frank, I spent almost 2 weeks just practicing heads, focusing on face but I neglected the ears completely and now I'm seeing how I'm suffering with it. I don't even want it to have that much depth at all. But I feel like I'm fucking it by not knowing even where to position it correctly. Thanks.
>>453 >To be frank, I spent almost 2 weeks just practicing heads, focusing on face but I neglected the ears completely It sounds like you have my problem, where drawings just take WAY too long for you, and so you end up just not drawing certain things because otherwise it would just take too much time. If you drew heads for that long but just never drew an ear then it's like, what were you doing with all that time. You need to get to the point where you can look at a head ref and draw the whole thing (eyes, ears, hair, everything) in 5 minutes. And have it be actually correct. You need to be able to churn through lots of refs fast so you can actually internalize them and build a foundation for your imagination drawings.
>>454 >It sounds like you have my problem, where drawings just take WAY too long for you Somehow I don't think so. I try to outline my sketch between 5-10 minutes normally. >If you drew heads for that long but just never drew an ear then it's like, what were you doing with all that time. I used to draw them by merely following the reference or making them far simpler than intended, not giving enough attention. It's full of negligence from my part. >You need to get to the point where you can look at a head ref and draw the whole thing (eyes, ears, hair, everything) in 5 minutes. That's currently the problem. I'm being hyper beg and attempted into focusing small on face first instead of structuring the head correctly first. I will try doing it as a whole for now, since I wanted to spend one more week with the head anyway.

Try studying from actual references more and deconstruction techniques (using primitive shapes instead of just boxes) to have a more organic sense of the shape. If you're a total beginner, try tracing over the image you're referencing so you get an idea of the arm strokes you need to do so you're bio-mechanical library of library can understand what you're trying to replicate/achieve. Also understand that line confidence and proportionality is like riding a bike, start with training wheels, move on to without them, your handling and speed will be unconfident and sloopy, but as you put more hours and mileage into it you'll be able to develop a more confident workflow that'll reflect in your linemanship and product. Also, post your work.

>>565 AI is a tool, I've used it before for thumbnailing purposes, but don't use it to finish your works for you. >>565 >>566 >using AI >b..b..but it's a tool lol lmao even
last few posts seem like b8 and same fagging, pls dont bite, anons
>>567 AI can be used in a way that doesn't interrupt core learning opportunities for art-making. The way I use AI is having it render splotches of shapes in the same way traditional artist will splash tea/coffee onto paper to create blots and then create imagery from imagination on those blots. You're not using the AI to create the artwork but more of an idea machine. Same way you can click on the randomize button for a prompt sentence adlib for ideas, or rolling digits for a draw a certain character like in the Towergirls threads. Don't use AI to create your artwork, like a ruler, you can use it as a tool to facilitate ideas. Or better yet, don't use AI at all.
>>573 i personally use my own experiences as ideas for art or i take random thoughts from my daily train of thought and give them physical form
>>575 That's what I do too and is a good skill to have for developing your imagination and visual library. Point was to respond to that anon and tell him not to use AI to remake his artwork. He could be using it for more useful things like idea-generation and basic reference generations like the coffee spot idea, which you generate/get from a randomizer and then start doing the creative work on top of it. But you can also just spill coffee irl, seems like a waste of good coffee though.
>>567 which Ai does this? need it
>>590 the actual intelligence in your brain
A.I. is a tool. A.I. is a tool employed by those who seek to disenfranchise and delegitimize human artists and defraud their audience. Using it is a consumptive, not a creative endeavor, and in so doing as an artist you are ultimately ceding creative control over your own work. It has no place on an art board.
>>600 oh shut up
>>601 No lol
>>600 Agreed, better not to use it all, but sadly people will use it all the same. Unless some massive change in how it works or legislation/bans/etc. take affect on it, but even then I doubt it'll stop people from using it one way or another.
Anyone have any advice for color choices? Always feels like the colors I end up choosing don't have any rhythm or correlation. Is there a mathematical procedure or thought process one should take for choosing colors for a piece? What "green" is the right "green" for a painting to create a good color impression, be it flat or fully rendered pieces. I've had some people recommend that just adding a overlay with some transparency can do a lot to unify the colors, but that seems to only help minimally. Any reading or learning materials that focus on this you guys recommend?
>>605 Color and Light: A Guide for the Realist Painter by James Gurney is said to be pretty good book on color. He also has a youtube channel so you can watch him there. Also get a color wheel or search one online.

Any resources or recommendations on how to get started with video game fan art? I have already practiced human anatomy and figure drawings (from both Western/Ch/Jap books), I learned how to make sketches for paintings (portraits, all realistic people). I don't know how to start copying 3d characters from a video game (OW dokiwatch skins), dressing them up. I want to color them on paper eventually. I don't watch anime, I'm not familiar with the original source. Is there any practical knowledge on how to copy existing, 3d characters? Should I just start with their most basic look, or study their clothes from the original anime. How do people do this? I'm broke, I just want a copy of them on paper. Their looks seem rather complex to start with.

>>645 you are maturing...
>>137 Put fat on top of it and ignore the rest of the legs
>>692 Fuck you, nigger!
>>691 nice
>>688 That doesn't help. Drawing something from real life is easier than simplifying things that do not exist.

This website keeps on not opening for me on both URLs and I don't know why so that's .. awesome I tried a new way of drawing
I wish finding refs was easier
I really don't like the pauldrons and the leg fastenings

4chan is back
>>730 yeah but i cant post, after waiting 120 seconds it doesnt give captcha
>>731 >120sec cooldown for posting Are you 5real
>>732 Yeah, when i click get captcha it starts 102 sec countdown but when it ends nothing happens, and if i click it again or just try post without writing correct captcha it starts 120 sec countdown again.
>>731 i just posted
>>734 doesnt work for me :(
>>730 >>731 Its a bigger downgrade than before. Honestly aside from brand recognition, I don't see why anyone would go back to 4chan when they haven't even upgraded anything or added any new site features 4ch badly needs. Could've at least lessened the frequencies of Captchas and allowed multiple image uploads but not even that.
>>736 yeah I do like some of the features here, like the multi images posting
>>737 it's very nice feature, i can just post all my new drawings in one post
>>738 yeah, the major problem with 8chan is the lack of people. Looking at 4chan there is already 10+ new post but it takes ~45 mins here to get that much.
>>736 I’ll still go to half for some boards, but for /ic/ doublechan will be my new refuge. Posting WIPs on catbox got annoying.
>>741 yeah, I feel like especially for an art board it was a hassle
>>691 Literal fucking perfection
>>691 Blog?
anyone else kinda like it here better? i like how there arent many trolls here
>>748 same, made me realize how trash it was in halfchan
>>748 can't really gauge, not a lot of people posting here.
>>751 the low population size is the downside.....
i will get good here. wait a week for my drawings
(62.11 KB 1304x546 librewolf_bV1WHbDX7B.png)

>>749 I wonder how much of it was just bad actors fucking with art enthusiasts
>>763 So are you guys going back to 4chan now that its back?
>>765 no reason to go use 4chan, has less features and is saturated with trash
The reason is 4chan actually has people. Beg over there gets 200+ replies each day and here we are going to need 200 days to finish one thread. And don't give me some bullshit about le quality. It's the same exact thread but faster and with more replies and more critique.
>>769 You're talking to bots and bad actors
>>771 is that better than talking to no one? Whats good in an art community if no one is there.
>>772 there is no point to an art community. the whole idea of being /beg/ is to grasp the motions of self-improvement and ride that wave. others you don't grow to know and trust to rank in contrast to you are at best a breather, at worse a distraction, and the more noise you surround with the worse you'll do.
>>772 What good is a community that distracts you from the thing you should be doing instead. You're looking for any excuse to not draw under the guise of "taking a break"
>>773 how are you suppose to get better with no one to guild you? Self reliance only gets you so far and without feedback stagnation happens. >>774 Why are you distracting people from their work and not helping them? Consent grinding will only cause burnout, looking at others work can relieve that and sometimes inspire.
>>765 Nah, I already made peace with the website, I'm going to stay here.
>>775 >Consent grinding Only if you don't like the hobby, I've been drawing everydaysince last December. I've been running on pure enjoyment. Different people have different goals and motivations. Look, if you want to go back to 4chan, that's fine. Different strokes for different folks, some people prefer being on slower boards some don't. If you think that a faster /ic/ will get you to draw more, and better go ahead.
>>775 a single book and drawing from life is worth a billion cuckcrabs
>>765 I'm banned cuz I called the jannies nigger
>>772 How is a bot supposed to help you improve?
>go back to 4chan >demoralization threads and posts >schizo posting I don't really understand why they let obvious trolls and constant attacks against the user-base go unpunished.
>>788 engagement farming
>>788 >attacks It’s called critique, faggot. Stop being a pussy assed little bitch.
>want to start sketching mostly with pen to learn to draw quickly because I want to animate stuff >spend weeks procrastinating on practice because everything gets misplaced without having possibility of fixing it >decide to go back to pencil and eraser and try to copying something >still crap, but at least I can make it so it is in proper place Being an animator back in the pre-digital era must been hell.
>>792 You get used to placing lines the more you practice with the pen
(149.04 KB 960x1280 IMG_3973.jpeg)

(92.95 KB 960x1280 IMG_3974.jpeg)

>>792 The old school animators sketched the animation with pencils first before the inkers transfered it to the cels. You weren't expected to get everything right on the first try always. But of course practicing fast drawing is good.
It's crazy how even with all the 4cuck tourists temporarily migrating here, /Loomis/ had less people than a new /ic/ despite it being here for years
>>800 I assumed is was strictly for people who did things the Loomis way.
i miss ruskie anon. i will simply have to reference his faces when i draw things until morale improves. also 4chan /beg/ is shit now and none of the good posters came back, just the obnoxious ones
>>804 well correction not none. a few did but most of it is just retarded spamming topkekdesu
>>804 I mean, with the jannies being ban happy, what is there to expect? I made peace with never going back to 4chan

(119.01 KB 960x1280 IMG_3982.jpeg)

What do you guys think?
>>817 /v/ request thread tier, not bad, reminds me of 2000s flash animations
>>818 >not bad I'll take it, thanks for taking the time. But what makes it "/v/ request thread tier"? Is it the anatomy? Background is lazy, that's on me, just wanted to get over it. Going to post another fairly recent drawing, maybe it'll help to give a better idea about my style of lack of it.
>>819 I'd say the simple anatomy and faces, no pencil shading, shading with what looks like brush. Imma take a guess that you don't use gesture lines. you just do straight lines for the limbs Like I said its not bad, shit, it might be your style now, if you like it, just own it and develop it more
>>820 >Simplistic Ah... I understand what you mean, I struggle with that. This is a hand study I did a while ago. When I use a photo reference and don't try to do anime, this is the result usually.
>>821 nice, you also have to keep in mind that all this shit we do is subjective, your art might remind me of flash animation, while another nigga thinks its the mona lisa. You do you and if it looks good to you and you enjoy it, who cares? that said, unless you are trying to appeal to a mass audience for social media/commissions, then ignore what i just said

>>931 nice and clean personally i find that shit so fucking boring, but then again, i suck at drawing objects from imagination
>>932 I'm not drawing from imagination, I'm using models from sketchfab. It is mind numbingly boring, but it's the only way to improve.
>>933 do you study office furniture just cause? or are you using it for a setting in an artpiece
>>934 I'm studying with this book (most of my posts ITT are based on it, starting with >>904), and one of the projects is to draw random things from various angles to get comfortable with volumes in 3D space, so that's what I'm doing currently.
