>tfw listened to a anon here about how much better manual is >decide to buckle down and learn >mfw
>>15433 >>15434 This issue is easily resolved my sequential automatics, especially ones using dual clutch setups. Manual is obsolete, but that doesn't mean it isn't fun. It just isn't optimal for daily use if you drive in traffic.
>>15427 You what? >the clutch that has to connect low reving engine with fast moving car in low gearing >what is rev matching >the piston valves, that have to deal with sudden overpressure Overpressure from fucking what? Just how little do you know about how engines work? If you rev match, if you don't exceed the redline and if you only go for high revs with warm oil, nothing's going to break ever from fucking engine braking.
>>15439 >It just isn't optimal for daily use if you drive in traffic. This is what leads to my friends not getting manual cars. The bumper to bumper traffic.
once decent paddle shifters become standard for sub 75K cars, manual will become even more obsolete.
>>15426 Thanks anon, I noticed since starting manual is I am not use to fucking up, so whenever I do I panic a bit thinking I might fuck it up. Doesn't help the clutch is sensitive so (Its a 97 BMW 318i) I haven't been able to shift real fast yet, especially taking off in first gear.
>>15361 What sort of weak limp wristed pussy are you?
>>15450 he's probably an amerimutt inner city-dweller who has never taken a drive just for the fun of it because he lives somewhere congested and shit
>>15451 >everyone that doesn't drive an mt econobox from 2001 and thinks he's paul walker is american ich scheisse auf dein brot und du denkst es wäre aufstrich, dann merkst du, dass es kacke ist und ich scheisse auf dich.
>>15453 >he's german >home of the autobahn >yet he shills for automatic gearboxes Just goes to prove that even though you need brains to make cars you need a soul to enjoy one

>>15453 That is about as Jewish as an insult gets.
If you are riding the clutch in slow traffic you are driving wrong. Just stay in gear and leave more distance from the car in front of you. Unless traffic is moving less than 10mph this usually works. If you encounter such slow traffic so often I would suggest trying to move somewhere you don't, it's probably a shitty place to live anyway with so many people.
>>15361 Only if you have to commute in stop and go traffic.
>>15444 >paddle shifters I sure love accidentally down shifting when I'm coming out of a turn. Trash.
>>15439 The funny thing about guys like you is you never think about what happens if the nearest shop is 500 miles away. I'd rather have a simple and absolutely reliable setup rather than bullshit relying on countless pieces of expensive electronics.

>>15498 Thanks for the advice >tfw on a incline >car behind you is right on your ass >trying your best to not fall far back I hate asshole who do this
>>15498 > leave more distance from the car in front of you. way to earn yourself a horn concerto from everyone on the road
>>15506 So? Your nerves can't handle some beeps and boops?
>>15507 >i enjoy behaving like an egoistic gigafaggot on public roads
>>15504 >trying your best to not fall far back If rolling back on a hill is a concern AT ALL, you should revisit your clutch basics, as holding the car on a hill with nothing but the clutch while you move your right foot from the brake to the gas is a basic skill that any teacher should have imparted to you. Shit, years ago when I was working a job that would have me hauling equipment and materials, I used to love driving the 83 chevy C20 with a 4 speed muncie and a carbed 350, that shit was the best tow rig I've ever driven, super fun. hall of fame moment was loaded with about 12000lb in the bed and platform trailer, stuck on this hill https://earth.google.com/web/@46.75680536,-71.28920687,64.92173004a,0d,60y,334.58944864h,76.67533988t,0r/data=IhoKFmsyQkpPSXpsSUpEY2J3WlM5RUI3LWcQAg To this day, that was the best launch of my life.
>>15506 Just because everyone else on the road is a fucking idiot doesn't mean you should join them. Tailgating is fucking retarded and if you do it you should shred your license and drink a gallon of gasoline. >can't see anything but the back of the poor soul in front of you (except he deserves it because he is probably tailgating the next guy) >he can't see anything behind him except your stupid face if it's light out, or your headlights if it's dark >if the guy brakes hard and quick you will rear end him >if you are in slow traffic, you will be constantly stopping, increasing wear on your car I'm not saying you should leave a fucking mile between you and the next car, but a car length for every 10mph or so is the minimum on clear roads, and no less than 3 car lengths unless you are in a literal parking lot. This ensures: >you don't have to stop in traffic, increasing fuel efficiency and reducing wear on the drivetrain and brakes >you have time to stop if the guy in front of you brakes hard >someone else can move into your lane if they need to (if you are one of those people who speeds up when someone in the next lane ahead puts their turn signal on, drink another gallon)
>>15515 Pro-tip for stop and go traffic: There will be a median speed. Say on average it's 5 mph. Give yourself enough space so that way you can move at a constant 5mph without stopping and starting again. If you and several people do this, the traffic jam actually will begin to clear for the people behind you.
>>15518 What do you do in near gridlock traffic? My worry is always just staling. The traffic here is fucking dogshit, but I still wanna drive stick.
>>15552 What I've been doing is just put it on neutral if you aren't going anywhere and once you see traffic start moving shift into first gear.
>>15556 That is the correct way to drive… Holding the clutch open for extended periods puts excess wear on the bearing and spring.
>>15561 What about at a normal stop sign with regular traffic, do you keep it on neutral then? Or put it on neutral before you stop so you can just use the brake without having to use the clutch(what I've been doing)
>>15563 What? You just use the engine breaking when you retrogear and switch to first gear when you're on the stop line. No need to get back to neutral.
>>15563 It boils down to personal preference. If i know i will not need to accelerate, i slip it out of gear (no clutch) and brake with regular brakes when necessary. Then to begin movement again put it in first with clutch and revmatch all the way to the needed speed.
>>15564 Doesn't that mean you will use the clutch more therefore ware it out slightly faster?
>>15566 The other solution makes you change your brakes even more, so you get to choose. The clutch doesn't wear off that fast anyways, except if you drive more than a thousand miles a week in city traffic.
>>15566 It doesn't wear the clutch if you match your revs.
>>15571 >The other solution makes you change your brakes even more Too little wear on your brakes is bad, too. Corroded brake disks suck extremely hard and are noisy, too.
>>15574 I never said not to use them at all, only to use them less.
>>15563 It depends on the situation, but I typically just go into neutral if I have to stop and go. Brakes are much easier and cheaper to service than clutches.
>>15417 >I always shift from 4 to 1 back up to 4 again while trying to maintain high revs without braking. just learn to fucking heel toe properly you fucking pleb. >>15515 > and no less than 3 car lengths I can't even leave a car and a half in front of me without someone pushing themselves in. my area sucks rancid assholes though.
>>15508 I do enjoy forcing people to be efficient with fuel.
