Post Your Car Thread: "Saabfag Endures" Edition Driver 06/06/2017 (Tue) 02:52:05 Id: b93199 No. 13371
Another post your car thread because I want to see who is still here. Bikefags are welcome to post as well. Post your car, what you've done to it, and what you are planning to do to it. Picked up the new 900 on Friday and immediately drove it almost 200 miles over the weekend. It performs perfectly. The only issue is the exhaust is quiet as fuck - it sounds like a stock Corolla… All I can hear is intake… I'll fix that come fall and a real job.
(554.32 KB 860x313 ss weeb 2.png)

>Done Removed AFM, replaced exhaust, engine tune, upgraded brakes. >Plans Re-trim seats, get the paint touched up (stone chips all over the front are driving me nuts).
Reposting and older picture because it looks basically the same from this angle >what it is 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder. 200k+ miles on the body, ~115k miles on the engine (and tranny, I think) >what I have done to it In order of when I did it: changed fluids, replaced parking brake cables, pieced back together the right side mirror with bondo after it snapped off in an accident (should have used fiberglass in retrospect), put on new Yokohama S Drive tires, had a mechanic replace a faulty overfill valve that was causing vapor leaks (because I could not for the life of me find the leak on my own without a smoke machine), paint over the bondo on the side mirror and some cracked parts of the rear bumper with some cheap plastidip knockoff (temporary as I plan to replace the painted over parts eventually, although cosmetics are low on my priority list) >plans Manga bomb my rear panel over the engine with the Alice in Wonderland manga, because the paint/clearcoat are coming off fast and also to piss off purists. Eventually I need to get around to removing the pre-cats because I honestly don't know if they're still in there or not. More expensive plans for the future include to swap the stock tranny for a 6 speed with LSD and to add on a small turbo (with the necessary supporting mods like an aftermarket clutch and better brakes, of course). Not sure if I want to bother with coilovers or bracing as its a street car/daily driver and I like the way it handles as is, but I'll know for sure after I take it autoXing. Want to get better at stick shifting before I get a short shifter. If I manage to do all of that and still have money to blow on it, I'll take care of the dents and get the paint professionally redone. Alternatively, sell it/trade it in for either a 350z or a BMW E34+reliable DD once I finish trade school in a couple years and start making better money. I do want to keep my MR2 for basically forever if I can reasonably get away with it, though.
>>13375 >mangabomb kek >turbo I think 2ZZ (Celica GTS engine) swaps are fairly common for the ZZW30. It would likely be more expensive and definitely more complicated, but you might consider it if you want to get more power while maintaining NA characteristics. Weight increase would potentially be smaller as well.

>>13371 Here's mine 1986 Chrysler Lebaron GTS Turbo 1988 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe >my meme team
>>13378 I have considered it but decided against it for a few reasons >I actually WANT a turbo engine (muh swooshing sounds) >the stock 1ZZ has more usable low-end torque than the 2ZZ >talked to a guy who said fixing/finding replacement parts for the 1zz is easier than it is for the 2zz Also, for less money I will be getting significantly more power gains from a turbo than I will with a 2zz. A 2zz swap will only give me about 50-60hp increase while a turbo running small amounts of boost can easily add 100+ horsepower on the 1zz. Besides, even if I wanted NA characteristics, a K20/K24 swap costs less and gives you more power. Only reason to go 2ZZ is if you're after stupid high amounts of power (400+ horsepower) in my opinion.
>>13390 >turbo +100hp I didn't realize you could add that much power without building out the engine. Definitely a better path then. >K series Good point. 2ZZ's are pretty rare here, but I thought maybe you wouldn't have to swap out as many parts.

Just bought this last Saturday, first car I've bought with my own cash >car 1993 Toyota MR2, non turbo and it's an automatic, also it only had 63k miles on it. >what you've done to it Nothing so far, might have the transmission swapped, just not sure if it's really worth the money. >plans Might get an aftermarket stereo, but I've heard that replacing anything stock is some kind of cardinal sin, so I don't want to screw it up and be "that guy" without realizing it. This one's the original stereo with a cassette player and radio. Never been a "car-person" but I figure I ought to learn about all this, and hell it could be a nice hobby I suppose.
>>13400 That MR2 is in really nice shape. Take good care of that girl.
>>13400 >>13375 Where did things go so wrong :(
>>13405 I definitely will, anon.
>>13406 ZZW30 owner here. Nissan is actually my primary love as far as cars go but its fucking impossible to find a manual+rwd/awd sports car in my price range made by them (<$4000), at least since the 240sx got hit by the drift tax so hard. My only options for cheap to buy and maintain vehicles like that were essentially Camaros, Mustangs, Miatas or this. I still love my ZZW30 though (always wanted to own a mid-rear car) and I always said that if I was gonna get something other than Nissan it would be either a Toyota or a BMW.

Just got her last month, it's a 1983 Chevy Camaro Z28. Guy I bought it off of was the original owner, car was never winter driven (in Canada thats a big thing, because the road salt they put down in the winter to melt snow also causes car bodies to rot really fast). Guy swapped the stock 305 V8 with a 350 SBC bored out 0.020 (he included the original 305in the deal), and installed an Edelbrock Performer intake on it, a Holley DP 750 CFM carb and spacer on it, a Mallory Hei Performance distributor and coil, short pipe headers, and chrome valve covers on it, Got it at a good price ($3500 CAD, so like 3k USD), cause the posi rear end needed to be replaced. So far in the three weeks I've had the car, I've: -Replaced the old weather beaten window weatherstripping -Swapped out the old Auburn 3.73 rear end with a new Eaton TruTrac 3.73 posi, and swapped out all the old gears with a rebuild kit from USA Standard Gear -replaced the old thermostat and housing with a new one, cause the old one was warped and wouldn't seal properly -Replaced the rear sway bar bushings -Did a flush and clean on the coolant system -Installed new trunk shocks -Replaced the stock radio/ speakers/antenna with modern stuff -Installed a three-gauge cluster on it (Water temp, Oil pressure, and Amperage) and replaced the old broken sensors -Replaced the rear calipers, because the old ones had broken boots on the brake cylinders In the future, I'd like to find a better air filter for the carb, as the one that is on it now is just too small. Hood clearance is a huge issue for these models, so I've been looking at installing a Dual Plenum kit made by Spectre Performance to replace the stock air cleaner. Also, want to install a 32" aluminum 3-core rad to replace the stock 28" single core one to keep that big 350 cooler when driving at low speeds. In the distant future, I'll be having to look at rotors, pads, and suspension too, I want to get ceramic pads, drilled and slotted rotors, and coil-over suspension all around as money and time allow. I'm in the Canadian Army, so the only real place I have to work on the car is in the parking lot on base and at my parent's place on leave, but I have a little experience working on older cars so it shouldn't be a problem.
>>13645 You better not thrash that classic
>>13648 Fuck no, haha. After spending a week attempting to get the rear gears installed right, the absolute last thing I would want to do is cause the posi to grenade again. Replacing a set of differential gears and posi unit is an absolute bitch of a job to do on a gravel driveway
>>13645 How many miles does she have. Please tell me you're going to store her away before she's raped by your winters.
>>13653 Only 130,000km on it. And no, she's never going to see a winter as long as I can help it. Looking at getting a cheap winter beater before the summer's over.

>>13371 Here's my Mazda 323 with custom fins. I also posted my instructions on how to make your own here: https://8ch.net/diy/res/375.html
>>13400 >1993 Toyota MR2 Drool-worthy. How much did you get it for? I've been aiming to get an MR2 for a while now.
>>13375 post rear panel please
>>15750 That is so weird i actually like it. What a shame my 323 is a hatchback.
>>15750 Never seen the sedan version of that generation before, only know the compact and coupe variations.

I'm getting so close I can taste it. I see a fellow man of taste in an 83 Z28 here

This was my car at one point. >what it is 1987 Honda Accord LXi. >what I did to it Coilovers, anti-sway bars, brake upgrade, exhaust, camshaft, programmable ECU, oil cooler, sticky tires. Was a super sweet little autocrosser. >what I plan to do to it Was sadly written off a few years ago. Saving my shekels for another one.
>>15768 >SOHC on the side >Notec on the side Hey, kudos to you for keeping it normal. Notec > Vtec. :^) Looks very rust free and has no plate on the front, so i assume it's somewhere in Burgerland? That is one legit sweet, sweet car. Why so many foglights though?
>>15769 Thanks man. I miss the absolute fuck out of it. >burgerland Yes. >fog lights The ones above the actual foglights are just turn signals.

>>15839 You're the Alaska guy right? I remember your car from another thread. What I'd do to live up there.
>>15827 >>15839 Sweet ride.
>>15841 I dunno, man. It sucks to need 2 cars, one for summer and keeping shiny and one to give to the salty roads in winter. I'm glad i got 2 cars, now i can annualy fix the rust on my winter car while enjoying the summer car, which i will keep polishing in winter. I still have no garage, so both cars stay outdoors at winter anyway
>>15846 I almost didn't think you bothered with salt up there. I've read pretty much everyone has a car or truck with AWD for the old months
>>15847 cold*
They don't salt roads in Alaska, it wouldn't do anything/would make roads worse with the cold snaps that happen. Next goal for the Camaro: building a 350 sbc. Current scheme is to rework the crossfire injection but I've got to do more research first
>>15851 I didn't think so. I thought the other guy was you. I didn't look at the ID. I don't care how much it snows or how cold it is. I'd love to move there. It's been a dream of mine. Is it true most people drive manual for better control of their car in the cold months?
>>15858 Not from what I can tell, manual is going the way of the dinosaur on everything but muscle/sports cars and commercial trucks here too. If you've invested time into a trade, its a good state to be. Also the gun laws are great. Fuck Anchorage though, Palmer is where it's at.

She's coming together boys. Still got a lot to do
>>15859 I was looking into Fairbanks.
>>15872 Fairbanks is an outright shithole. Lots of druggies, even more road rage. -50 in Winter, 100 in summer. Don't do that to your car.

>>15877 >Palmer Small town life is the best life I take it? Works for me. I have a few years before I can move my life there, so I need to look into a lot. I happen to work a trade job so that might help me even if I needed to drive to Anchorage. >Don't do that to your car. More like don't do that to myself too

>>13371 Clean as hell 1985 Mercury Cougar. All original seats, carpets, pretty much all interior, exterior paint and trim. But; the gas tank, fuel lines, fuel pump and gauge, vacuum lines, engine, brakes, and tires are brand new. In January second gear went out and I'm struggling to find a way to replace it without getting a brand new tranny. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
>>15885 if one gear went, for consistencies' sake replace em all. so its either rebuild or replace. If it's a slushbox, those utilize arcane magicks from the machine gods to continue functioning: I suggest one of the priests at a transmission shop to perform the rites. I haven't tried to do anything to a manual yet.
>>15886 Unfortunately it's an automatic
>>15885 Rebuilding an auto can be done by the DIYer, just be aware that it's quite difficult. Can you provide more details as to what the problem is? Also, when was the last time you checked the trans fluid level? Fun fact: The Cougar of that generation is based on Ford's Fox platform, same as the third-gen Mustang. If you have the I4 or V6 version, you could find an old 302 Windsor V8 and it would literally bolt right in.
>>15890 Fluids are fine and it originally had the v8 302 LS engine but in 2016 I dropped a brand new 302 boss coyote engine into it. But in January I was out on a cruise, stopped at a stoplight and when it was my turn to go I noticed the rpms when straight to 8k but won't shift into second gear. I limped it back home and has been stuck ever since. I hope this is what you meant
>>15890 Would it make more sense / be more cost effective to just go out and replace the entire tranny?
>>15892 Probably. Or you could take it apart, find the exact gear or sets of gears that are malfuncioning and order new ones. I know there are shops that do this sort of thing.
>>15891 (Same as 365009 in case it changes) My first inclination is to say your throttle valve cable is either stretched out or snapped. Definitely a lot cheaper to replace a cable than an entire transmission, so I'd look into that before diving into the other stuff.
>>15893 Yeah well all the tranny shops in Columbus are on the east side. And in that part of town, the violence has gotten so bad you could fence it off and call it a zoo. It's just safer to do it yourself. Like 5-6 nogs get shot every day cause gang violence. Somali Integration my ass, maybe into jail but they're not for white and normal society.
>>15894 I gotta check that out, I'll give you an update in a bit.
>>15894 Update: cable is fine but the shifting fork is bent and second gear is stripped. Fuck
>>15897 Time for a manual swap?
