Why did car sports never catch on? Driver 04/12/2018 (Thu) 20:31:46 Id: 2f5e54 No. 15685
In the early 1900s you had shit like auto-polo which literally substituted the organic horse for a mechanical one. Then once the war happened people forgot about the concept of fun and it took 100 years before Top Gear introduced Car Football. They did it several times, yet the only ones who followed in their footsteps are groups of removed rednecks living in California and New York. The only major contribution to pop culture featuring this concept is Rocket League. >inb4 damage costs Just use bangers or faster, safer, enclosed versions of those giant bumper cars that were in Takeshi's Castle. >inb4 space There's nothing wrong with a regular football field.

Not to mention that they need maintenance, which takes either a lot of time of money. Or both. >regular football field If someone is ok with never being able to play football on it again, why not? Because cars are heavy and tires dig up the pavement they are on, especialy dirt. Now to mention that they are dangerous as fuck, becase even the most underpowered shitty early 2000s VW Polo or 1980s Ford Fiesta have more than enough power and weight to tear through crowds or "protective " constructions. And at least 3 more important safety issues which i am not going to state here, because i'' not writing an essay here. Have some footage of the closest thing to mainstream car sport: folkracing.
>>15685 Meanwhile Monster Jam took of and I still can't understand where do they get all the fucking money to run this show. Not that much people are fans, yet they total their 1500hp trucks almost every time, and those tires must be really expensive. Yet they can still afford to rent whole stadiums to do this?
>>15694 It's probably a money laundering front.
>>15697 Yup. That of they have hundreds of sponsors.
>>15694 What is Monster Jam?

There are plenty of popular car sports, it's just stupid shit like [car version of existing ball sport] that never took off, because it's stupid shit.
What about a motorized biathlon? You have rally cars which are rad and guns which are also rad
>>16214 >Technical Biathlon I've been pitching this for years. The main problem would be structuring it in such a way that you can run it safely; proper backstops, 180° rule, range control, and so on. Also, there are a bunch of US states that expressly outlaw firing from a vehicle.
>>16217 The range problems could be solved by properly constructing ranges and placing lateral as well as vertical limits for spectators. The laws would probably force the sport to only take place in more gun-friendly locales.
>>16542 Can't the laws allow some exceptions for special events?
>>16542 >range problems could be solved by… Here's the most straightforward way I can think of making it work. The driving portions are done with the weapons unloaded and safe. Off the trail at a couple of points, have properly constructed shooting bays with marked parking spots. Pull in, park in the spot, turn the car OFF. Range officer gives the signal to commence, you shoot the stage like you would any other competition in terms of safety and procedure. Shoot mounted weapons, shoot small arms from the car, dismount, run around, shoot some more stuff, variations on the above, whatever. Once you're done, unload and safe the guns to the ROs satisfaction, he gives you the clear, you remount and keep driving. The only problem is that it doesn't allow you to shoot and drive concurrently. >>16543 That only works when the event in question funnels a bunch of money into the pockets of ((the right people)). But a bunch of white men fucking around out in the woods? NO FUN ALLOWED
>>16545 >That only works when the event in question funnels a bunch of money into the pockets of ((the right people)). The (((MIC))), for example?
