C8 Corvette unveiled Driver 07/19/2019 (Fri) 07:33:24 Id: 703458 No. 18530
It looks like an NSX. Cool rims at least.

>>18530 >looks like an NSX. One of the drawbacks, if you ask me. There's nothing wrong with the NSX or cars like it, but by copycatting the Euros and Nips, the Corvette stops being distinctly American. The Corvette should have a big, obnoxious, crudely powerful engine in the front, not a fancy schmancy rear-mid engine. It should also have a truly manual clutch, but in this rendition they've adopted a euro-style clutch-by-wire system.
>>18537 I think the biggest problem with it, is that apart from the C1, every single Corvette follows a distinctive, almost signature body contour. Even the C7, which I remember a lot of us criticized for looking too much like the Viper from the front, as opposed to this, which looks like a combo of the NSX and current-gen Ford GT. A long, swooping, almost ramp-like nose that leads up to the engine bay, a small cabin, and then a stumpy rear with a window that's slanted between the cabin and the rear bumper. The top outline on pic related is unmistakably Corvette. This one, largely due to the layout, has necessitated a change to the design. The front is still long, though not as it used to be, and is now purely vestigial as it no longer holds an engine. The cabin is much larger, and flows into a similarly longer rear. The front and rear fascias are still classic Corvette styling, but I wish they'd switch the tail lights back with the Camaro's already but the bits holding those together don't even look like they're from the same company. Even the mid-engined Corvette prototypes from the '70s looked more recognizable than this one does. Chevy definitely want this newest Vette to be a direct competitor to the latter, considering that when the first GT launched the Camaro was on hiatus and the Corvette was clearly being aimed more towards the Mustang crowd. Now they have competitors for both, but have sacrificed a lot of what made this car stick out in a crowd in the process. This one will still turn heads, but a glimpse of its body lines will no longer prompt one to know it's a Corvette on an instinctual level. P.S. I find it funny that Jewgle Reverse Image Search thought second pic related was a "McLaren", because that's basically one of many things this car looks like rather than a 'Vette
I like it
>>18593 It seems to be a nice car, but it's not a Corvette.
Now that they have made it mid-engined, will all vettes be mid-engine from now on or just stingrays? Also, no manual trans so into the trash it goes honestly.

>>18605 I seem to recall that before the C7 launched that a traditional front-engined Corvette and a mid-engined version would be released at the same time and appear in the showrooms together. Seem to have scrubbed that idea well before the C7 came out as they've saved it to the next (now upcoming) generation. The thing that concerns me is where's the entry level model on this thing? The Corvette is supposed to be America's sports car. Everything I've seen so far makes it look more like a supercar. The C7 even had a clearly less extreme, more casual convertible. What will this one look like?
>>18606 I think I read the base model is starting at 60k and that's pretty standard for Vette's, I think. Could be wrong.
>>18607 The new one costs $5k more than the previous model did. Not a huge bump, but they're getting less affordable with every redesign.
>>18609 Maybe so, but I could get a C5 or C6 lower now too if I wanted. Flip lights might sway me more on a C5.
