/o/'s Favorite Defunct Brand Anonymous 12/04/2014 (Thu) 18:12:10 Id: 173c29 No. 1859
What's yours and why?
Or, what brand do you want to see come back from the dead? And explain why you think it deserves a second chance.

>Alpine

>Typically quirky French with added oomph and pizzazz
Pontiac, i would love to see gm make into a peformace brand
>tfw we almost had a g8 power wagon
>>1861
>Pontiac Cruze
>Pontiac Traverse
>Pontiac Malibu
>Pontiac LaCrosse
>Pontiac Encore
You know it's going to happen. This is GM we're dealing with here.
>>1861
Holden is super dead now. Expect the worst. I imagine it's going to be Camaro and Corvette and that's it from now on from GM in the performance bracket.
good choice OP. Alpine made some really cool looking cars
Defiantly Pontiac. I don't even care if the last 10 years where rebadges. They always looked so much better. We build excitement was a perfect motto for them. They were able to take everything boring and regular about Chevy and turn it into something fun as Pontiac, even if it was the exact same car just with a different body.
>>1861

I'll still never understand why GM killed Pontiac. Chrysler went the other way and made SRT for sports/super cars a few years later.

Also RIP mobile users
My family has driven Oldsmobiles for generations…

Also I love Pontiacs.

I also have a place in my heart for AMC and the Tucker, but alas I never owned either of those.

>Pontiac
> They were able to take everything boring and regular about Chevy and turn it into something fun as Pontiac
>forgetting the Torrent (rebadaged Equinox)
>forgetting pic related
>>1910
trucks and SUV's don't count, they are all shit.
But the Sunfire was fun. It didn't look as boring and regular as the Cavalier. The added their Pontiac flair to it and made it cooler even thought it was just the same car.
>>1910
>tfw jbodys are better shitboxes than old hondas and no one knows this yet

if only the insurance(5k/yr) in ontario wasn't twice what cars that are actually fast, and fun are.

>>1859 Why are Alpines so goddamn ridiculously sexy? I don't know why I don't talk about them that much, but whenever someone mentions the brand, I'm instantly all "Alpines are sex. Alpines are pure sex." Are you excited about their upcoming release, Anon? The A120?

AMC. Something I dont understand is how American Motors went under even though they had the magical "jeep" namesake that Chrysler made a killing off of. It would be interesting to see if they would have survived the late 2000's recession if they were still around.

>>1912 >trucks and SUV's don't count, they are all shit. Not always true. What I'm wondering is why Chevy isn't reviving Pontiac. They still have the rights to the Pontiac name right?
(416.04 KB 1600x960 saab-95-13.jpg)

Kinda sad how SAAB died just as they got their act together and built a car that didn't look like utter shite

The entire collective pre-British Leyland UK motor industry. British designs were very different from American, Japanese and even other European designs. I still regard British Leyland as the worst thing to happen to motoring ever. >you will never own an E-Type
>>1902 because people realized Pontiac were just Chevys with another grille and badge. That wasn't a problem until the recession hit and GM had chop their own limbs like mad in an attempt to save itself. >>3795 because Chevy is already covering the market Pontiac did. the only way Pontiac would comeback is if GM decides to rework Chevy's philosphy (which means they have to go all toaster so Pontiac can get the young/sporty chunks)
>>3796 the 9-5 and 94x gave me such an enormous erection what a shame they both died quickly
>>3793 AMC went under because they went from decent car manufacturer, to muscle car manufactuer, to garbage factory shitbox manufacturer, all in the span of a decade. Damn shame, really.
>>1859 Alpine should really replace RenaultSport as Renault's performance division.
>>1902 I think it's because Pontiac was never definitively a performance marque. >>3854 And in that time never sold enough cars to compete anyway.

Call me crazy but this at least seems a far better idea than that woeful Reliant

These forgotten Italian marques.
>>1901 >>1861 >>1902 >>1903 >all this Pontiac love I thought I was alone. >no more Fiero >no more Trans/Grand Am >no more GTO >no more G8 It makes me genuinely upset. Fucking Chevy is allowed to roll out shit like the Cruze or Traverse, but when GM starts tailspinning like it was bound to, they kill off PONTIAC? Not Buick, not GMC, PONTIAC. And this is before they went Judas on Saab and Holden. It's gonna take some serious fucking convincing for me to buy any GM product in the future, especially considering the majority of their Big Four's respective lineups are shit. Fuck man, I don't know if I'd wear a Chevy shirt if it were FREE.
One of my favorites is Vector Motors. The M12 was so fucking awesome. I know that they're still around kind of, but they haven't done shit since showing the WX-8 prototype in 2007.

Scion apparently ;_; rip Toyota FWD racing. rip Japanese Saturn
>>7939 not him but from the concept images it looks pretty generic and bloated
>>8086 meant >>3791 ofc
Don't know if you include individual models, but this once ferocious rally beast is currently lying in its deathbed after 25 years of production, 10 of those stuck in one generation which had nothing to do with the previous nine in any way, shape or form and had little to no development tacked on to it in the years that followed.
>>8089 Thats a shame. Id say the final design aged relatively well.
Gonna kind of miss Scion, the xB was a nifty little box.
Plymouth. Hemi Cudas were the shit

>>1859 Alpine is alive !!!
>>13789 >3 yo post Nevertheless If I had 55k€, I would strongly hesitate between this and a Cayman. The Alpine has a cuter design but a 4 banger… I also wanted a Camaro/Mustang/Challenger… For this amount of money, the Alpine is worth it somehow.
>>1859 Not completely defunct but Lancia needs to be set loose.
I have always revered the Tucker, myself. Such an amazing car, it's tragic how cronyism and crooked officials destroyed such a promising company
Rinspeed. Their former CEO is now sort of a Tesla shill. Look at that interior, it's so fucking 90's.
