Not sure where to ask no but, is it worth grabbing an old snap on diagnostics tool like the verdict which is 14 years old for diy use? I have a 1999 Cummins and would like to look into fuel injection without having to buy a usb link 3 and pirated software - Also, where do you guys go for pirated software? Apparently you have to pay money to register in mh auto which defeats the purpose

Even worse, it seems that kaos has a lot of outdated programs and dead threads. unless current programs are behind a set of paywalls, I don’t see it being a viable option During this time I dug myself into a rabbithole and now I’m worse off than when I didn’t know shit about tools and programs. I might just bite the bullet and get a snap on tool from ebay for diagnostics. A cheap nexiq tool from china and an old insite program I found on torrent. I just don’t know, why is it so complicated? A way to filter mexican mechanics?

Luckily shop I used to work had an mt2500 with the domestic chip they loaned. What do you use to diagnose? I refuse to believe people used to work on these and just know what problems were without it being a coin toss

>>18675 admittedly, my OBD1 cars are all toyotas, where the process of getting codes is literally just sticking a paperclip into pins E1 and TE1 in the diag connector, then turning the ignition on and counting how many times the engine light blinks. If there's multiple codes, it's slower versus OBD2 where a reader will just show everything right away, but it's simpler and when it comes to tuning, OBD1 will warn you about something, but otherwise just shuts up and does what you tell it to do.
