>towing in a WRX
lol
Small cars like that can tow, but only around 500 lbs (or less). CX-3 might take a teeny bit more but all of those subcompact crossovers are useless shit anyway. The smallest thing that could tow an actual utility trailer and maintain daily practicality (to a point) is a Jeep Cherokee, or one of those weird new 5-door Wranglers. I don't know exactly what other brands have that is comparable but I think most other tow-capable vehicles are going to be bigger. I have heard of standard crossovers (RAV4, CR-V, Forester, etc) towing, but with those 4-cylinder engines I doubt they could tow much.

>Would you guys fix it to save cash or get a new(used) car? It has 155.000 miles and is in OK condition. Has rust, transmission a bit rough.
It really depends on how much it would cost to fix it and whether you like the car enough to maintain it at this point in its life. I'm used to cars going 200-300k miles before dying and needing major repairs that cost major cash. I don't know how reliable the last Escort is but I haven't heard any outrageous horror stories about them so I would guess that with proper care they would go at least 200k. So looking at it economically, it may not make much sense to repair it if you have to spend $4-5k or more, because you could get a decent Japanese shitbox for that much.
Again, it really depends on whether you like the car enough to fix it, regardless of how much it would cost or what anyone else thinks of the car.
For example, my Saab will probably cost at least $4k to fix all the problems, and for that price I could probably get something with fewer problems and cheaper maintenance, but I love the car so it doesn't matter. It also helps that it only has 124k miles on it (PO seems to have beat the shit out of it) and these things are known to go 200-300k with proper maintenance, so after I've fixed it up I can enjoy it for a long while. Granted, an Escort isn't as special as a Saab, but you should get the idea.

>you're not money conscious. You're just a tightwad.
If he has a choice between spending $1-2k to keep his current shitbox running for another 50k miles or more and spending $6-7k on a new car, the first option is obviously more economical. I obviously don't know how much it would cost to fix whatever problems the Escort has.
Maybe he's saving for a house or something and doesn't want to buy a new car?

The Escort falls into the category of "just a car" in my book. Nothing wrong with it. The ZX2 is kinda silly though.
Requesting that questions like these go to the advice sticky in the future.
