Yearly bike thread Anonymous 08/10/2015 (Mon) 22:37:20 Id: 57a2d0 No. 5809
Let's give /ybt/ a shot at superior chan. Starting off with my new shitbike.

(201.38 KB 575x315 lost coast.jpg)

I might ride the lost coast this upcoming weekend but I should probably get some dual sport boots first.

Pikes Peak Buell
I'd like to participate in this tread, but I ride my bike maybe once a week these days, it's a really shitty cold and wet summer.
>>5870 I'd like to participate but I have no bike at all. Wish I knew how to get into them.
>>5875 This is me right now. I have the money for lessons and such, but I know shit all about bikes. What's a cheapy bike i can get?
>>5879 Get some all purpose dirtbike like a Yamaha YZ or Honda CR.
(3.44 MB 3264x2448 20150121_145004.jpg)

>>5879 Take a motorcycle safety class and get your license. From there you should get some protective gear and start the purchase process. The tried and true cheap bike for beginners is the Ninja 250. You really cant go with that. From there you'll be able to learn what type of riding you enjoy the most and make your next bike purchase off of that info.
(4.04 MB 2810x1779 1425095047455.jpg)

>>5889 *You really can't go wrong with the Ninja* To continue, just remember that your first bike doesn't have to be your last. I started out with a shitty bike and learned that I most enjoyed riding all day across the state so I purchased a bike for that. You might think you want to do a certain type of riding but soon find out that's not what ypu enjoy so it's ideal to spend as little as you can for a running first bike.
(2.23 MB 3264x2448 IMG_0011.jpg)

>>5870 Post bike anyways. I don't ride much in the summer because of all the tourists on the good roads. I'm really fortunate I can ride year round.

>>5891 no recent pic, so here's one from last year.
Hey bike fags… So ive been thinking of getting a bike. I rode trial bikes all my childhood to school in italy and guatemala so i have some experience, but of course the us is a shithole for any type of driving so its probably worthless… Anyone ever DD a trial or dual purpose bike on the highways? Ive been thinking of getting something like a honda xr or similar in the 450 range or bigger? How many miles can you squeeze out on the highway? Any issues with car/trucks zipping pass you and the air pushiing you off? What do you bike do you recommend for DD work/ beach time? Also what are your thoughts on using a ktm 450 sxf on the road?
>>5898 I've ridden quite a few dual sports on the street with no problems whatsoever. It's better to go with a bigger one like an XR650 but the 350s and 400s are also fine but not as good on the highway. As for the highway, you'll be fine if you have 80/20 tires but if you use knobby 50/50s you will have vibrations at high speed. You can just go a little slower and be fine. Really any Japanese DS will be good for DD/beach. I'd stay far away from that KTMthough. Pure dirt bikes need maintenance frequently if you put lots of street miles on them. You'll probably be a lot happier with a reliable DS.

I'm looking into getting an affordable bike, I currently drive a Jeep that gets craptastic mileage, and I'd like to get a bike for day-to-day commute. I was looking into the Suzuki tu250x, would this be a good beginner/commute bike? Pic related. Keep in mind I've never biked before.
>>5901 That bike will do fine for what you want to do. Make sure you post pictures when you get it.
>>5902 Thanks, I wouldn't be getting it that soon, probably in a year depending on where life takes me.

>>5909 That's one heck of a trail but why does your image have an imgur filename?
>>5869 idk why magpul does not just start mass producing those, they would sell like hotcakes
>>6071 Stella's are pretty neat
Looking to get into bikes. Don't really like the really sporty ones. Was looking at this Honda CL175 in really good condition. How much should I pay for such a bike?

>>12149 I've got pic related, a 2007 Free Agent Maverick. Mine's glossy cherry red though, not that satin shit. List of mods; >Matte black handlebars (Rustoleum) >Handbrake delete >Green tire valve caps (stolen off of mom's car) >Natural patina on gears & chain >Reflector delete

>>12157 >nigger tier mods on a mountain bike
>>12160 that was the wrong image
For some reason I've been watching bike pov videos. I have to ask, why do so many of them get angry about every single thing they see on the road. They get more pissy about rules broken than the cops do and take it upon themselves to make sure that person knows they made a mistake. Even if they were in the right it comes off like they're just assholes. "I'm filming you!" or some other shit.
(25.46 KB 632x496 B24h8bJ.jpg)

>>12160 >a BMX = MTB
>>12167 Sorry, I'm not normally that much of a faggot. It was late and I saw the off-road tires and though "mountain bike". The rest of my point still stands, albeit weaker.
>>12172 That being said, pic related is a bike too.
What's a cheap moto? Talking like the kind that are really real cheap and I can easily mess with fixing. I know ninjas are plentiful but I'm not really looking for a sportbike. It can be a small bike, too. I'm not planning on going 70 on the parkway right out of my 15 hour msf classes.
>>12412 I don't know where you live, but in the US, anything under 700cc is acceptable. My first bike was a 1979 Yamaha XS650 that was a HUUUGE piece of shit. I learned a lot from that bike. Like how to set valves, clean engine sludge, troubleshoot wiring harnesses, troubleshoot charging systems, fix ancient disintegrating fuse blocks, steering head bearings…. the list goes on forever. Pre1980's bikes are usually points-based ignition and simple carburetors. late 80's-90's bikes typically are hard to find parts for anymore. Stick to something with a cult following and you'll be fine. Such as the CX500/xs650/cb750. If you're looking for something smaller for whatever reason, get a honda rebel 250 and modify it to be less dike-bike, or find a wrecked ninja 250 at auction for pennies and throw $20 on it.
>>12431 >late 80's-90's bikes typically are hard to find parts for anymore. Why?
(91.73 KB 940x530 Suzuki-DR650SE-2013.jpg)

>>12431 >Pre-1980s bikes are usually points-based ignition and simple carburetors. No-wheels fag here, I've got a long time rider and mechanic friend hyping me up to buy a| bike and go traveling and Korean/Chinese bikes that use that system are my first -and probably only- choice; besides the Suzuki DR650. He tells me how in his travels to bike events he has seen many a great ride stranded while cheap air-cooled knockoffs are easily repairable almost anywhere. It's the only choice because this is a socialist shithole where finding parts is an exercise in frustration and having your ride be too good or too shabby can get you killed for it.
>>12513 This, bump, i love that Dr 650 i miss My xtz250
>1964 Honda C105 "Trails 55" >3-speed semi-automatic transmission >4-stroke 54cc engine makes about 5hp >Speedometer goes up to 60 just so it can meet American street legal specs, real-world top speed closer to 45 on a straight at most >Too slow to be highway legal, yet too fast to be considered a moped/scooter A-am I bikefag yet?

I've had the bike in the first pic for a couple years now. I know it looks rough, was never really meant to look "neat" like the bike I parked next to in the other pictures. >Sears 2 stroke 4hp >1 gear top speed of about 40 >works on and off road >loose legal restrictions because pedals=bicycle >fixable with bicycle and lawnmower parts >if engine blows no problem compatible small engines just laying around ,scrapyards ect. I should mention I've never had to replace the engine yet, but I have extras, also I didn't build this. A mad mechanic built it. I did need someone to weld me a new back rim semi recently
Why is it so hard to find a used bike? Like let's start I want 20010 DRZ 400 SM I can't find any of them anywhere! do dealers throw them away so you are forced to buy new bikes? How much milage can you get on a bike, like cars can go 100k before problems will star occouring etc. It's just well known marker for cars. But bike I only see have a few thousand miles at most or less. Why do they never sell dualsport bikes with abs? like I want this bike, the Honda XRE 300. but they do not sell it in the USA.
>>14544 >Honda XRE 300 Trust me, you don't want one of those. Their engine breaks down a lot around here.
>>14560 Well what are some good dual sports?
