>>6095 I have no idea what makes that guy think that old toyota is worth that kind of cash. I mean I'd love to have a lifted old toyota truck like that, but considering it's probably had the everliving shit beat out of it on trails, and it's not even the FI SR5 R22, or at least have some sort of V8 swap, how that guy thinks he'll get that kind of money is some amazing level of delusion. The sad thing is probably some retard out there who will gladly part with 130 $100 bills just because of the lift kit and those big ass tires. I would fucking hate to pay for those things.

>>6141 > all you have to do to 'save' a shell is to replace a few panels. Well, if the body itself is twisted, it's not really feasible. You might be able to get a car together that runs and drives, but it wouldn't be good for much else besides rally because it would never track down the road straight. Actually, if you're willing to spend enough money, you might be able to straighten it out, but it's probably going to cost more than just getting a good car to begin with.

Here is a Kustom Kandy Red Ford Exploder. https://monterey.craigslist.org/cto/5204250839.html >asking 4k Someone actually spent money making this truck look like this. DISGUSTING. Dear lord. What is the point of doing anything like this to any car, the thing is practically unusable. For 4k you can buy a mint low mile ranger/explorer and have a good chunk of change leftover. There is no way anyone would buy this shit right?
(20.94 KB 600x339 1988.jpg)

It's a 1988 according to the seller: https://monterey.craigslist.org/cto/5214914833.html $2300 for a below-average condition high mileage (120,000 on the odo) Civic that the owner doesn't even know what he's talking about.
>>6198 Assuming he's talking about 120k on the whole car and not just the engine, $2300 probably isn't too far off. That's not really high mileage for the year, either. As long as the car didn't sit for 10 years at some point, that breaks down to roughly 4500 miles a year. The body isn't perfect, but it doesn't appear to be rusty, which a lot of civics that body style are. It's a 5 speed, which increases the value, at least IMO, because people who are looking for an econobox as well as people who want a little lightweight ricer, will prefer the 5 speed. Assuming everything is mechanically sound and the interior is in excellent shape, I'd be willing to put down $2000 on it. I like those civics, and they are getting harder and harder to find not riced out, beaten to shit, rusty, or some combination of the 3.
(26.64 KB 600x337 muh ota.jpg)

>>6204 I was just warming up. http://newyork.craigslist.org/brx/cto/5213826862.html Now this is what I'm talking about.
>>6206 >24 year old car >running >not plastered with rust >$1000 not a bad deal
>>6207 Agreed. I'm personally not looking for a 24 year old camry, but I've heard good things about them, so $1000 probably isn't a bad deal. It's a shitbox, but do some basic maintenance, and you should probably get another 100k out of it without too much issue. Assuming it's the original trans, I probably wouldn't touch it just because I highly doubt it's been maintained. These little jap cars will go a long time with proper maintenance, but people think that just because they paid $1500 for a car "lol fuck a tune up. It still runs so why should I change the air filter, oil, or service the trans?"
https://smd.craigslist.org/cto/5187345839.html This is the only good one I've found so far.
I lied. I was thinking there was some kind of revolution on CL and people were actually starting to ask what their car was worth rather than what they think it's worth. I was wrong. https://smd.craigslist.org/cto/5184797978.html >was appraised at 36k with old motor >it's ready for paint >27k or reasonable offer What the fuck? It's an old chevy pickup with a big motor and some suspension work. Also, for that price I want a paint job, and a nice one at that. This guy is going to be holding on to this truck for a while, I think.
http://greenville.craigslist.org/cto/5206305335.html >94 Explorer >"4 cylinders" >"fwd" I would almost wanna snatch it up if the owner wasn't so obviously clueless (and therefore likely neglectful).
(371.47 KB 994x599 oook.png)

Nothing wrong with the car, maybe a fucked up clutch from this retard but jesus christ what was this person thinking when they bought it.
>>6210 I have the same model '90 Camry, can confirm it will run forever. There has been little maintenance done since I've bought it (5yrs ago) and the worst part is the transmission will be a little grumpy shifting gears at times, there's a small hole in the muffler and the engine is old and tired. It's never stalled on me, ever. Odo is only 170k, hit it this week. Great shitboxes especially if you do a complete like-new tuneup. Just keep your modifying very respectful, these cars are still here because they are good works. I would never add shiny rims or lower this old man, maybe a less shiny dark grey paint job, darkened but not black tint, some enkei rims with a decent number of spokes so it doesn't look niggerfied(not shiny), some good Bridgestones that aren't paper thin and can last a while, and a complete interior detailing. One day.
I hate those assholes who think their car is worth $1500 more than book value because it is a one owner. Then there are those people that refuse or dont respond to requests to take additional photos. These are more general used car buying complaints but fuck I hate people.
>>6212 That truck could probable be worth 5000 if it had been kept in mint shape instead of modded and disgracefully hacked with suicide doors. Generally speaking, money dumped into mods is money you're never going to get back unless you find a real fucking idiot to screw over. "Appraisal" is for insurance purposes, not market value. Not a craigslist ad, but a "for sale" car that a kid brought in for inspection before purchase (oh a smart kid for once). >Acura CSX-S >Seller says "never modded/beaten" >The whole exhaust system has been reinstalled, badly (broken, cross threaded bolts, horrible welding to make up for it) on the car, the front ho2s sensor's harness is fucked up >Stock exhaust on the car has a whistle in it >The clutch is fucked >The brake calipers are painted red >The brake pads are high performance and squeal more than they brake >Purple HID headlamps >Yellow HID fogs >The electric power steering is iffy as fuck, it's harder to turn right than it is to turn left. >never modded >never beaten

>>6642 I always thought it was common knowledge that modding almost always makes a car less valuable. That, and depreciation, which that guy with the jeep doesn't seem to comprehend. Unless I was dead set on a 4 door wrangler, I'd probably just buy a 15 or 20 year old one for like 5k and just mod the shit out of it. New engine, lift kit, all that fun shit. You'd still have a ton left over for expenses like gas and oil changes, and you'd have a bad ass trail rig. but that's just my opinion.

>>11014 I guess that stance is kind of ok since it's built for drifting? I wish people would mod NB's instead of NA's if they are going to mod the fuck out of it anyway, since the NA is better stock than the NB. Undersized tires are also retarded. Is there any technical advantage to them besides making them fit in the wheel well better or is it just to make them look "cool"?
>>11017 I like your positive outlook about it. As far as the tires, I assume it's mostly to make them fit after it's been lowered.
>>11014 How good are these in the winter? I don't mean how they drive in snow, but I mean starting up and not dying on cold nights or mornings. Any old car I've had to drive in the cold ( my DD as well ) hates starting up when it gets cold. >>11133 >How good are these in the winter? My 1994 Saab starts fine at 45F outside temperature. Runs a bit rough and slow for the first few minutes, but no problems beyond that. What the fuck is up with people placing echoes on the titles of their ads? Are they trying to repel ebil neo natzees or something? https://newyork.craigslist.org/fct/cto/d/honda-oddessy-2004/6498707118.html

>on craigslist >want to search for cars under 100000 miles >find people putting "180" for 180k miles >try to avoid those listings by setting minimum to 10000 >find clean looking car >click >specs say odometer: 25000 >the ad description says 250k miles Is this a new form of clickbait?

(5.92 MB 4160x2340 cavalier.jpg)

I got a perfectly running 93 cavalier for 425 bucks off craiglist. Sure it's got 145k but they clearly took good care it, near as I can tell those miles were all highway. The only issue was the alternator went out, easy to replace, the front motor mount was getting worn, easy to replace, and it needed a battery. The AC had a bad stem so it leaked freon, easy to replace, and the powerlocks had bad solenoids so they drained the batter, I didn't feel like fucking with those so I snipped them. The rest is just cosmetic shit, missing a piece of trim, the ceiling liner was coming loose, and the clear coat on the hood was peeled. That kind of crap is easy to fix, but i'm still looking for a good piece of trim. It's a cavalier so it doesn't have a ton of horsepower but i've been driving the fuck out of it and it hasn't quit on me yet, I just got back from driving to San Francisco from Tacoma, not a single problem. People have told me cavaliers were unkillable and i'm inclined to believe them. For that price the fact that it's not a mechanics special is pretty fucking great. At that range just getting a good couple of months out of it would be money well spent. Considering the rest of the shit in that bracket was blown head gaskets and bad trannies, so as far as i'm concerned I lucked out.

>Dodge Neon >Motor not installed >Transmission pops out of gear >Three thousand dollars I've seen this thing up for months. He's never getting three grand for this. Is this like the opposite of those scams where it's a really nice car listed for $1000 but when you call the guy tells you it's in a sealed shipping container headed for Alaska or something?
>>15281 >it's always been run on the cheapest 87 they could find Ugh. My mom does that. Gets fucking walmart gas all the time. I try to tell her to only use name brand top tier detergent gasoline. I think she's finally coming around. Personally I only use Chevron/Texaco if at all possible, and throw in an extra bottle of techron on the last tank before each oil change.

So I saw a 1998 ford explorer sport model, the two door version, for sale for 600 bucks >inb4 ford exploder the door handle was busted off on the passenger side and the bumper was sagging because the owner swung the front end into a pole or some shit. I get there and the interior is basically spotless, the fluids look good, it shifted gears perfectly and ran decently enouhg, but the heater isn't working. I could tell from listening that the armature was catching on something and making a grinding noise. I could also hear that the power steering pump would need to be replaced soon. So I suggested 400 bucks and they went with it which was strange. I drove it home and it handled and ran great but I noticed a knock coming from the rear end, I assumed it was because the u-joint hadn't been lubed so it was building up torque no big deal, when I got home I popped the hood of course the hydraulic props were broken, stop using those fucking things car manufacturers I saw the mass flow sensor was disconnected. I figured it was busted, but I'd plug it in anyways to see if it fails, and bizarrely it was working just fine. The knock I heard was after fire in the cat. I plugged in my OBD-II scanner and it came up with no errors after letting it idle for a couple minutes, the check engine light was on before because the MAF was disconnected. He told me the passenger side door didn't work at all, I didn't mind because I ain't got no friends. But I managed to wrench it open and it turns out the fucking thing was just stiff because there was no lubrication of the bearclaw or the the joints. After spraying some penetrating lube it works just fine, same story with the hatch. The bumper was also sagging because the bolt on the driver side was missing. I put a new one in and jacked it for a bit until it was as straight as I could manage, i'll need to heat up the brackets and bend them the rest of the way though. The only thing on there that required some semblance of work was re-rigging the left turn signal because it was just all disconnected for some fucking reason. Fucking 4WD worked and literally all the electronics in the thing worked which for a ford is some sort of black magic. So my theory here is because the MAF was disconnected they thought the motor was dying because it wasn't getting the right air-fuel mixture making it dog, and they assumed the knock was the tranny. That's the only way I could justify selling such a nice car for 400 fucking dollars. TL;DR I think I just scammed the mentally deficient out of an automobile.
