Are people really hyped for it? I mean, outside of normalfags not interested in cars, just interested in comedy with big engines? I still enjoyed TG but it was getting quite stale. Apart from the specials that still had a bit of spice, the show itself settled in a steady rhythm of low risk entertainment. It made me think of what CoD has become, high budget entertainment for the masses, taking minimal risks with its formula (and in both cases, you could argue it's because they nailed it) and just werks. Also it's literally an advert for Amazon Prime

Watch an episode of S1 TG sometime, you'll immediately notice the jarring difference in comparison to the majority of its run. What BBC is doing is protecting its IP until it fades into obscurity, where it can sit on it until a successful revival is augmented. The critical ratings may have improved from S23, but you cannot engineer a bond between a group of people like the Old New TG did. They will keep changing cast, just like the 1977 series did. More people watched the show for the banter and stunts than the cars, and it definitely shows as the viewer ratings continue to fall down the tubes. On a second, more controversial thought, I didn't think BBC's Robot Wars revival was that good either. The new series of Battlebots was a lot better IMHO. All the good robots fucking broke after lightly tapping the wall once, and the boring flippers which got the shit kicked out of them ending up winning.
