I'm surprised this hasn't received wider attention. It is the nearest we'll ever get to a "smoking gun" of the KT extinction event being due to the impactor at Chicxulub. The impact created a wave in the earth's crust like you might grab the edge of a rug and flick it vertically. That wave travelled three thousand kilometres and threw huge bodies of water and mud in the air which buried an entire ecosystem. Mixed into the geologic layer are tectites with the same chemical composition as those found near to the impact site and which would have rained down within hours of the impact.
>>375 Pretty interesting. I suppose by now the Chicxulub incident is so well accepted that there isn't felt to be a need for a smoking gun. I'm gonna look this Tanis thing up now.
