In Arabic, the alphabet is called Al-
Abjad=iyya, referring to Abjad, or rather A-B-J-D
, although that old Semitic ordering (22 Semitic letters followed by 6 Arabic-exclusive ones) was largely abandoned in favor of A-B-T-TH== because of this guy:

That's why when Arabs talk about learning the basics of something, they talk about learning "the
A-B of something" instead of "the
A-B-C of something", because there are two third possible letters 🙂
So calling it an
"alphabet" was (possibly accidentally) genius because
fights about the third letter has no effect on the word 😇
