Does 8chan.moe have a warrant canary? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warrant_canary
i would be shipping ips of certain posts directly to the FBI at some regular interval
>>11842 This is something that would be really interesting to have.
>>11842 I don't think so, but now that you bring it up I think the original website did.
>>11842 It's a good idea. 8chan is a different beast from 4chan and it has a tendency to attract attention from basically any breathing glowie on earth.
>>11842 There's a paragraph in Legal, although it's not as strong of a guarantee as cryptographic signature.
>>11930 This. Agents aren't so dumb as to just let board owners not update their canary, so it's entirely possible that a legal order comes with a gag clause that states not only can you not post about the request, but that you can't have the canary show up as dead. If anything, there's a decent chance it would just shut down the site if they decided not to comply with such an order.
>>11987 Legally speaking, in the US you cannot compel someone to speak, which is what the entire concept of the canary relies on.
>>11987 The legality of warrant canaries is dubious at best, even the linked article mentions that courts are unlikely to be amused by this tongue in cheek interpretation. Although, correct me if I’m wrong, law permits you to forget things. So if you can’t unlock your HSM by failing to remember its passphrase due to stress caused by interrogations it could maybe work.
>>12037 True, but then you loop back to the issue of pissing off the judge that controls your fate because that sort of "your honor, oopsie daisy" argument will just make them want to a sweeping ruling in the govt's favor, and then a canary is a very small comfort if it still ends with you being shafted and the site made into a honeypot.
