This thread is to post news, relevant social media posts, etc. during the summer. According to German news, FIS still investigating the Norwegian suit rigging incident. According to Sport1, FIS still haven't ruled out to DSQ Marius Lundvik which would leave Andreas Wellinger with the Gold medal in the normal hill.

German Ski jumping legend Max Borkart passed away aged 92. He was the first former BRD athlete to win the 4-hills tournament (1960). F
Robert Johansson announced his immediate reirement from professional ski jumping. 35-year old Norwegian team jumping gold medal winner from 2018 couldn't finish his career as he was one of the athletes who got banned following the Norwegian staff suit rigging scandal. He will probably be most notably remembered as the "30 minutes world record holder" for breaking the World record for the farthest jump at 252m, only for his set mark to be beaten by Stefan Kraft barely half an hour later.
Following the retirement of Robert Johansson, Poland's Kamil Stoch has announced his own. In contrast to Johansson who definitely said goodbye, the 37yo winner of 39 individual WC competitions announced his retirement after the upcoming season.

According to krone.at Austrian slalom talent Maria Niederndorfer quits skiing due to cronic pain in her knee which resulted from multiple injuries in the past. She was cited to now focus on her medical studies.
2025 developes into a full blown horror year for Norwegian 2-times World Cup winner Heidi Weng. After a crash of a her Finnish rival Jonna Sundling stripped her off the chance to win the Gold medal ahead of her team mate Therese Johaug at the World Championships in March this year, she suffers another personal defeat as she split from her boyfriend of 10 years, Kjetil Nygaard - Swiss tabloid Blich.ch confirms.

Austria's Stephanie Venier announced her retirement from professional sports. She won't be representing her country in the Winter Olympics in early 2026.
Another unexpected retirement announcement emerged from the Alpine Skiing circus as Canada's Roni Remme informed the public that she has made the decision to leave her sports career behind and move on to focus to other projects.

Marita Kramer declares her retirement from professional sports aged 23 and only months before the Olympic Winter Games. Favourite Kramer was set for a sweep in the past Olympic Games in 2021 before a Corona infection ended her Olympic dreams only weeks before start. As she explained in her retirement statement she struggled to keep herself motivated during training ever since. And indeed, her poor performance ever since left many experts puzzled about the reasons. She has now decided to draw a line.
This one should alarm all amateurs of the Biathlon Individual format: The German Federation changed the rules for the Short Individual in the upcoming national championships (5.-7. September) so that instead of the penalty times there will be penalty laps as well. While there is no official statement to try to make this change in the World Cup, keep in mind that simply because of the market shares, with Germany providing by far the biggest viewership, the national federation's influence on the International Federation is quite significant. Maybe this is a change that we will also encounter on international stage in a few years.

Chinese freestyle skiing superstar Eileen Gu suffered a "horrible" accident during training in New Zealand. Further details has not been published yet, but eye witnesses saw her being transported on a litter from the track before being brought to the hospital in Christchurch. According to South China Morning Post she appeared to be severely injured.
