a pentium m and 2gb is pretty generous in my opnion, I've used distros like tinycore, slitaz, damn small linux, and before systemd I ran arch on a thinkpad with only 256mb of ram, I think I later upgraded it to 512mb and that had only a p3 cpu
it was extremely limited so I basically only used bare TTY to do anything, still was able to do a lot with tmux and a framebuffer driver, even browsing imageboards was doable with the links2 browser and gpm for cursor control
damn small linux has updated to a heavier distribution, I think now based on debian, and should be more viable as a daily driver now, unfortunately doesn't fit on a floppy disk any more
there is a release of puppy linux based on void and I've been trying it out for a while, it's pretty decent as a complete desktop experience, it was a bit confounding to figure out the package management though, the default browser does not work on a bunch of websites, palemoon is distributed as a sfs package and is more usable but requires you to copy the sfs to the same directory as puppy linux itself so that it's loaded at boot, otherwise you have to manually load the extra sfs every session
