I have, in the past. The best case scenario is "yeah, still around, just burnt out and busy or whatever", but more often you just get dead silence. One thing I think a lot of people don't realize is that being an artist sort of inadvertently puts you up on a pedestal, people tend to just assume you're "better" than them because you can draw, and as a result they don't want to cross a boundary or bother you by sending a DM directly just to nose into your personal space. That's just as likely to annoy someone as it is to encourage them, so why take the 50/50? It doesn't take a lot to message someone, but it's still something you have to actively do, and when some artists are kind of weird about interactions and social cues, it might not be worth it to even extend a hand. Plus, no one knows how empty your inbox is and they might worry their message will get lost in a sea of "hello do free request?" and scam messages from people trying to steal your identity, or it just sits in an inbox forever that the person has long since abandoned. This isn't even considering that sometimes it takes people a long time to notice they haven't seen art from you in a while even if they really like your stuff. That's happened to me before, where I only realize I haven't seen new stuff from an artist six months since their last upload, and by that time who knows what's happened?
Sorry man. This is a community where greed and entitlement are at an all time high and empathy is at an all time low, and even then the empathetic might just be so busy with their own shit that they don't have time to come send a message to a silent inbox. Sorry the world didn't stop to drag you back in.
