>the comic never (to me) pretends it's anything other than that
The moment the comic includes sex, it
IMMEDIATELY becomes a porn. This is a rule with zero exceptions. And as such, I have yet to find
ANY "non-porn" media that includes sexual content that doesn't immediately degrade the quality of the story or upend the the entire flow of it.
Cannot say the same for finding porn with a damn good story, however. That's not to mention the fact that, as I said, there's been
other porn actually about fucked up content that handle their topics much better.
<Pic related is a recent read I can point to as being somewhat heartwarming despite the story's topic.

>True love is much better if there's a taboo aspect, though
I disagree. Kinks aside, all the inclusion of a "taboo" does is add to the drama of the story. And to say the quiet part out loud, the idea of "true love" is an absolute farce. Even in fiction, it gets boring because of the simple fact that no couples are "just right" for each other. People have actually done extensive amounts of research on this subject, and they've found (Over a century ago) that relationships
ONLY work because of a handful of things:
<The sex
<Actually talking to each other
<Not being overly critical of the other person
Simple as that. You could pair up the two most mismatched people on the planet, have them start a romantic relationship on those three points, and they'd have a more loving experience than having any number of matchmakers precisely trying to find the "perfect partner" for someone. And when you realize that, a lot of this "lovey-dovey" bullshit becomes stale and hollow because it's about flat characters constantly affirming each other (
Does this sound familiar in any way? ) rather than people with issues and them trying to work through them (Sometimes with help from others around them).
I'm not saying that "every" story needs to be some complex human drama. But you need to have something
MORE than just:
>I cut myself
<Anon, you're such a stinker, how about I carve my name into your arm
>Okay
