Treck Girls Anonymous 04/16/2025 (Wed) 20:36:58 No. 33
Just finished re-watching the original, and boy, they is a significant amount of pretty gals on screen. Feels like I often hear nowadays how modern trecks are "too much sexy and relationships" and "ST is about nerd science and space first". There were sexy babes standing in the background, just being pretty since day one, apparently. I need to start paying closer attention to all this mise-en-scene.
Modern Trek doesn't even seem sexy, it's just trying to be so the non-Trek fans will watch it. But on the subject of Trek women, Kira was always the best choice. Tasha wasn't bad either, but they killed her off too quick to get much out of her.
>>33 Well most of what you've posted there is from TOS, where women being eye candy was very much in line with the times. Jadzia even jokes about it in "Trials and Tribble-ations". I remember people being harsh on ENT specifically for having Blalock as eye candy in scenes that required her to be relatively undressed (in the first ep, even). I would say you get the best babeage out of VOY. There's just no way to beat Jeri Ryan in a catsuit. Although pairing her up with Chakotay admittedly goes a long way.
>>40 I rewatched ds9 a couple months ago, and Kira was really doing something for me. Something about the tomboy/lesbian look. She lost a bit of it when she grew her hair out in the last season. Was a bad look.
>>48 I hear 'ya, her performing "Fever" was a highlight for sure.
>>48 Ds9 will always be one of my favorites.
>>82 Hot damn, I'd honestly forgotten how good that catsuit looked on her. Definitely something they wouldn't do today. :P
>>83 They barley could do it back then. iirc she fainted on set a couple times until they decided to switch it for the blue suit without corset that restricted her bloodflow.
Daily reminder that we could have had Ro as part of the main cast in DS9 instead of Kira but Michelle Forbes turned the offer down. Fuck this shit ass timeline and fuck you Michelle.
HOW THE FUCK DO YOU MANAGE TO KEEP A STRAIGHT FACE WHILE ON SET WITH PEAK JERI RYAN? Were all the men on sedatives when the director said, "ACTION" or were they mechanically milked for hours before filming?! I really like Ezri and Chadzia but holy shit, no wonder Jeri was in orgies. Also, imagine 7of9 beaming on board the Enterprise while Jellico was in command.
>>109 Jellico would have taken one look at her and then... decided that the uniform regulations were outdated and that really, a combadge was formal enough.
Anyone over a certain age, has a modicum of knowledge and has seen plenty of Trek can tell something is off when og trek is more sexy than nu-trek and many ways the most(?) sexy of all Treks. Almost seems conflicting of how it is even for today if you consider different factors that go back prior to women's suffrage. I'm not exactly sure how to describe it but I think it's multi-faceted when it comes to what accounts to "being OK." Feminism is a word that comes to the forefront for me because on one hand the sexiness is embraced and paraded with sparkling joy but on the other hand it seems to be regarded as, just for clear understanding, "male gaze." The same way that there are women who just want nothing more than to be housewives or moms or both, there women who want and are sexy. But then you have those that just only see a woman acting or doing certain things just appealing to men. If I was around during the 60s/70s and heard of Paglia, idk if i would agree with her then, but i when i learned of her during high school 20 years, sure why not? i'm rambling but i think some people know what im talking about. i think a good example of a woman i like is Jadzia; she's very open about herself and doesn't shy away from being feminine, astute, and professional. Regardless of having 7 lives of memories, many modern women would look down on her because while she does enjoy her independence, she also fell in love with an overbearing nonce of a Klingon-a-boo (no black jokes please, if ykyk), wanted to settle down and even wanted to have offspring with the Son of Mogh. Those acts/thoughts alone make her brainwashed and another female slave to """men.""" Personally I think that heightens her appeal as a women and her sexiness, but alas I am man, so a modern woman considers that biased. idk how to finish my jadzia speech, but to conclude she's a traitor, she's guilty of wrong-think/wrong-act and ultimately is from a gone era. Anyway, of the nu-trek i only watched the 3 films and S3 of Picard, but considering who the EXE Producers, producers and demographics of the modern writers are, gone are the skirts of Kirk's era and the slight clevage of bajoran women. any female to female kissing will be in partnership and no other possible meaning. modern trek doesn't allow the petite Jadzia, 7 or T'Pol; (see Tilly). >i'm druk so i hope i'm following the spoiler rules correctly
>>111 The women in old trek are sexy because they act like actual human beings with actual personalities, instead of just being effectively "set pieces" like nu-trek characters. There's less objectification.

>>109 >the episode where the Doctor takes over 7o9 body IT SHOULD'VE BEEN ME
>>48 Kira had a beautiful smile
I wonder what a slutty Klingon female looks like. One of the Duras sisters was getting wet for Soren, iirc.
I think also we should've gotten some Bajoran women in the fashion of Orion women; more dancing and skimpy clothing. I guess the Dabo girls was the closest the writers wanted.

>spock goes into heat >looks at vulcunny pictures on his pc wtf
>>joking aside, t'pring is pretty hot
>>142 I mean, not even on Earth are all the laws the same regarding.... at least not until recently. so who knows what goes on other planets.
NO
>>148 i was just joking
I like Marina Sirtis....I'm not too keen on Troi.
>>151 Well nobody likes Troi for Troi, she was a dumb idea as a character. The most interesting she ever was was when she tried to pass the test for bridge officer and she was bad even at that. The rest of the time it was just "I sense <obvious thing>/<nothing because the ep would be over too soon if I could>" and "oh noes, Troi was abducted/impregnated by an alien/mind controlled". The whole idea of having a ship's counselor wasn't bad (and they actually got some mileage out of that in later seasons), but putting her front and center on the bridge was. Unsurprisingly most situations a starship can fly into don't really call for an intricate psychological assessment. I read the original idea was for Picard to be crap at personally relating to his crew so he literally had to ask Troi to handle all of that, but then of course Picard actually evolved into a human being after the first few eps so that didn't work out either. Jellico's idea of putting her in an actual uniform was good, though. She looked great in it and gained a few points in IQ and professionalism to boot.

>>154 >On the Bridge for some time. >Ro Laren wants to start bossing people >Our Guy, O'Brien informs both Ro AND Troi of Troi's actual rank Was the idea also just to get rid of the Yeoman? I didn't mind the initial introduction we got between her and Riker, because that's obviously something that could (and did) get brought up later. But seeing as there would be no internal conflicts, seems her role was DOA. I think for me her putting on the uniform would've been better just before season 4, but then you'd need someone to make her do it. I guess at that time Jellico was too busy with Total Recall.
