Given how Pokemon is a media titan, it's not surprising how frustration about Mega Pokemon being locked behind paid online and a paid DLC seems to be somewhat suppressed online, unless I'm not looking in the right places. It's a very reasonable thing to feel negative about. The Mega forms are finished, complete, and won't take any extra work beyond the release date for the team, which means they have not earned any extra pay beyond the $70 Switch2 price tag. Gamefreak doesn't even specify when the stones will be available to those who do play online. It says Greninja's stone is available starting October 16th, which is launch day. But it doesn't say how long each season lasts. Will it take a month to be able to use Mega Delphox? Then
another month to use Mega Chesnaut? There's no way that a season will only last one or two weeks. This is simply a way to make sure player numbers stay high for several months after release, which makes Nintendo look good to investors. They'll lure players bored or finished with Z-A back to get that mega stone. The player might not even be guaranteed to get the stone, even.

>"Mega Stones for Mega Chesnaught, Mega Delphox, and Mega Greninja can only be obtained as rewards for being promoted up the ranks."
This implies you have to move up ranks to get these items.
>"Greninjite, Delphoxite, and Chesnaughtite stones cannot normally be obtained during regular gameplay."
>"Mega Stones obtainable as promotion rewards are planned to be redistributed in future seasons."
>in future seasons.
So even in the future, it seems like the mega stones wont be released freely to players as, say, a mystery gift. They will be rewards again for future seasons of the Battle Club. It would be scummy but they could decide to release the stones to all players for Christmas or in January 2026 or something, but this doesn't seem to be the plan.
>announcing a $30 dlc before the shotty game is even out
The fact that they have something to announce means the DLC is probably complete or almost complete. Again, which means it should just be in the game in the first place. They even include Mega Raichu as the poster child, a form that makes it look like Pikachu and is thus even more potentially tempting for the average player. If all of this happened 10 or so years ago there would have been outrage.
