Fake Indies Anonymous 06/25/2025 (Wed) 05:46:13 Id: d2910f No. 482691 >>483371>>502191>>508211>>508499>>517561
Thoughts on the fake indie trend? >join corpo >gain mainstream clout >gain simp fanbase >leave corpo >become ""indie"" vtuber Unlike real indie vtubers, I don't respect them because they didn't build their success from the ground up. They leeched their success from being in a big name corpo. And then these ex-corpo ""indies"" steal attention from smaller indie vtubers that struggle to get noticed.
Cute catfish, boring loud male collaborationist, the leech, and the boring white woman.
The more things change the more they stay the same. I've seen this argument already for literally any other creative job.
>>482691 (OP) >They leeched their success from being in a big name corpo. Don't care. They had no obligation to stay in the corporation, and if said corp isn't offering enough to keep them, they leave. Just like any job. >steal attention from smaller indie vtubers that struggle to get noticed Debatable. You're implying that if these reincarnated vtubers didn't exist, the audience they have would have magically discovered these smaller indies instead. Unlikely.
schizo OP seems to be under the impression they all masterfully planned to steal clout from the poor corpo and leave at the height of popularity like it was a bank heist. The reality is more complicated. I can only speak from experience about Mint and not the others but nothing she did in her corpo tenure indicated she joined thinking it was a temporary gig. She wanted to make it work but just got fucked over due to incompetent management one too many times
>>482691 (OP) Nah, they are different market segments. The people that watch ex corpo ligs are not the same that would enjoy other indies. But there are a lot of people that can't get enough parasocial interaction with a big strimmer or just don't like the dynamic. It goes both ways, some of the unhinged fans love big streamers because each comment is a "notice me oshi" gacha roll, and they never get called out on their shit personality or dumb comments (which they would with a smaller streamer or get banned by a mod). For strimmers with a solid personality like Doki or Mint, even if hypothetically they never went corpo I think they'd end up as solid 4 views, depending on how much they are able to learn and develop as an indie. They're just fun to watch!
>>502191 I like my 3 view/ low 4 views for that reason. Gotta get in my parasocial time.

>>482691 (OP) Ahem: "indies" only exist as "indies" in the context of a power distribution dominated by corpo owned vtubers to begin with -- without the corps these can be nothing to be independent from. Former hololive talents might only have large fanbases driven by what the corp that they belong to can offer a mass consumer base -- that being an narrative to belong to -- but it's not like indies don't benefit from that either. This thread wouldn't exist if they didn't, lol. You can try to qualify one talent against another based on things like looks, voice, skillset, etc, but the actual value proposition of being a fan of so-and-so is in being their fan -- in other words, value is found in the narrative you choose to belong to. If you want to be part of some idealized indie fantasy narrative of the hardscrabble boostrapping go-getter vber virgin that goes from 2-view to V-Queen-Supreme (yet to happen, btw) you have to recognize that's a fantasy that only has "meaning" in contrast to/context of corpo owned talent. If that idea appeals to you (and it does, otherwise the thread wouldn't exist because former holos wouldn't be perceived as some affront to it) then you've already proven my case. It's narrative that drives audience engagement and it's large corporations that drive the narrative. Ipso facto: corporations drive audience engagement to indie talents as much as their own. QED: you're a faggot. Have a nice day.
>>508211 Those are a lot of words to say that Asuka is better than Rei.
>>482691 (OP) >Have a vtuber that makes millions >Try to get more money by forcing them to work harder, hiring cheaper managers, only giving them 2% of sales, and acting like a black company >They leave How could this be? By the way corpo fans are the lowest rung of vtuber fans. They're not even real vtuber fans, in fact. If you're a niji fan and your reaction to hearing that niji vtubers were only getting 2% of their merch sales was "NOOO NIJI DID NOTHING WRONG THIS IS A VALID ", or if you're a holo fan and your reaction to people shitting on yagoo/managers is "NOOO THIS IS A NIJI FAN SLIDE THREAD", you should be banned from this board permanently. This is a board for VTUBER FANS, a corpo shill is only here to derail threads and start shit.

>>482691 (OP) The only one of these that line of reasoning could even potentially apply to is Nimi. -Senzawa was already big pre-Hololive. -Selen getting fucked over by Niji, attempting suicide, and getting terminated wasn't some 5D chess game. Doki is not that smart. -Mint wasn't even planning to come back until Matara coaxed her back out of retirement. Even then the original plan was for it to be temporary, for the duration of their summer podcast. Only later did she realize she could actually make it as an indie. But the whole argument is retarded. Indie is indie. This isn't like the amateur-vs-professional distinction, because even small indies are pros. And nobody is "stealing" attention from anybody. Don't discount that all of these girls earned their corpo opportunities in the first place. >>502191 >The people that watch ex corpo ligs are not the same that would enjoy other indies. I watch and enjoy a whole range of chubas from some of the biggest down to some 2-views. Some are corpo, some are indie, and IDGAF. There are benefits of corpos, and there are benefits of being indie, and only the individual talent can decide which works best for them at any given point in their career. As a fan, my role is to support the people I enjoy and follow them wherever they go as long as I still enjoy their work. If they change so much that I no longer enjoy them, I quietly move on. I don't have the time or energy to waste on anti-ing anybody, let alone come up with schizo logic to justify it.
