>Even in the western fandom dudes will hear a slightly deeper voice and go "she sounds like a man. totally a dude speaking. that's a man."
Those seem to be mostly tourists and normalfags who have deep misconceptions about vtubing. One thing I noticed in general and not just related to vtubing is that a huge portion of people who now use 4chan are actual normalfags who got filtered out of normalfag sites for saying nigger or being right wing, so they ended up in "our" sphere despite having no other relation to it. The proper place for these people actually is facebook or similar, but the filtering process was too strict so now we have to endure their uninformed opinions. This ties in to the overall death of 4chan, the site is just deeply unsuited for actual cultures and subcultures. It's just for mildly edgy normalfags, like kiwifarms is.
If you visit either you'll just get bombarded by normalfag inanity that is too cowardly to accept itself as such and has to operate under a thin veneer of being "alternative." Right wingers as a whole still LARP as "the alternative." Basic point is you'll never change their minds, normalfags will always look at a vtuber and say "It's a man!" regardless of her voice. This is merely on top of their utter inability to genuinely enjoy something or be a part of a culture or scene. Being on this or that side of the political isle IS their identity and they never ever venture beyond that. THAT is their "culture" and it's incompatible with everything else, be it anime or vtubers or whatever else.
It's okay to welcome newfriends but they must be molded into our image, not vice versa. Mass culture is over, so anything that happens online in terms of subcultures or niches will always be in places like this and other corners, but never again 4chan. 4chan is both the CNN and Fox. It's the Netflix of imageboards, completely worthless to anyone who has a desire and interest in basically anything. I consider it worthless to shill or defend any subculture among normalfags, that's a big fucking mistake. You just need to welcome but curate people who end up interested in vtubing.
