The last 20 years have actually been a net positive for gun rights. We didn't regain everything we lost in the 80's and 90's but shit like the Assault Weapons Ban expired, constitutional carry has become more prevalent than not, Heller vs DC, etc. The biggest threat is "reasonable" gun control proposed by Republicans. Once the public accepts it's bipartisan nobody cares that they expand that to take away your rights.

Not exactly. Certain things like being involuntarily committed can strip you of your right to own a gun but just a diagnosis isn't enough to lose your rights and I generally oppose anything that takes away anyone's right to own guns without at least a full blown fucking trial.
