Some of it has to do with how OG 8chan's /pol/ had a hand in how it died.
Don't quote me, my memory eludes me, but I think Mark and Acid both, for the early safety of the site, banned /pol/ from making a board until recently. I clearly remember Mark being pretty upset about either the Christchurch or the El Paso shooting that it was fine to joke about doing it, but not to actually do it.
