Godot sucks. nodev 05/18/2025 (Sun) 01:36:24 Id: 7e6005 No. 38 [Reply]
I beginning to regret ever choosing the godot to make my game. I feel like I've gotten to a point where all of the issues with the godot engine is hitting me like a goddamn semi truck. The engine feels unprofessional and messy. You have to basically jury-rig everything, some of the ways you implement basic features feel like you're doing something that was never actually intended. The godot engine tricks you into using it because of the hype around it and it being easy and simple, but you don't realize all of the downsides to the easiness until your midway through. Once you realize how shit the engine is, it holds you hostage because you don't wanna have to completely redo your whole game in another engine and start back at square one when your midway through with it. After I'm finished with the game I'm currently working on, I'm gonna move to unreal.

Don't worry bro it'll get better once Slay the Spire 2 comes out bro just have a little faith bro, after that game comes out Godot will finally have the support it needs ||In all seriousness, you could try the Redot fork, that's supposed to have actual needed features||
>>40 ive been using redot, but in its current state, its just godot with a different coat of paint and i cant wait till they fix shit, but i still have high hopes for redot and ill keep supporting them

Not a question but a tip, if you use Blender here's a thing I found for making it easier for putting in real measurements faster than having to hit a key to go into advanced input bullshit like second pic related. It's useful for doing architectural in imperial and so forth for me.

Not an /agdg/ specific question, but asking about programming in general. So I'm clearing out things out of the basement and off my shelves, with the intention of "starting things fresh", and just want to keep (Preferably) one book on each programming subject so that I can learn from it and reference later when I need to. The books you see in the images attached are where I have multiple books covering the "same" topic. Yes, I know books are "redundant" because of how everything is "one search away" on the net, but I'm increasingly distrustful of web searches given how much of everything (Especially related to tech today) seems to be controlled and biased. Including Jewtube video recommendations. So I want to have something that is actually concrete and doesn't change with the year, which is what books provide. So which of these books regarding C++, Java, and VB 2010 is probably worth keeping (Or better suited I should say) for the purposes of learning to program and utilizing their appropriate language and tool sets?

Are there any Youtubers that I should try to contact to see if they'd play my game?

Hirdrih game: More potential enemies. >A flying pumpkin like creature from Tsoovukot, that shields itself using its leaves and shoots 4 multidirectional projectiles >A female Hellhound demon that jumps and performs some sort of slam attack >A Hell-slave with a nail-gun attached to his arm that shoots nail projectiles, but I also want to give him the ability to summon giant falling nails that could land where the player is

>>36 This is just me testing some stuff with characters, like optional designs/features or potential replacements. >Vahlrossa's bra thing looked impractical, so I went for a more solid armor piece while still retaining the appeal. >Bonky and Linda had the worst possible take on "cartoony pie chart" eyes, that I tried making it less bad. >I want Ivan to be buff even if still pretty, so the main thing here for him is different proportions. >Wanted Yiegour to look more "heroic" in term of proportions and also gave him different legs. >Bonka's design is arguably already great but I just wonder if these circles aren't excessive. >The thunder tattoos on Bonkette are an attempt at "mirroring" the eye cross tattoos on Bonka. >An alt hair I thought for Pamela is something "laid back", with braids and a green middle part. >Luisa looked a bit too simple, so I tried some tattoos. Maybe this won't be the last time but I should probaby prioritize some things better.

Cool effect when doing communications. This is a side project, so I'm going slow with it so more time can go to the main project.

Welcome to yet another /agdg/ bunker, a place to archive your progress and discuss all matters related to gamedev. This thread is for discussing the state of /agdg/ as a whole, linking to other bunkers and planning for a more permanent place for us. If you have any banners for the board, feel free to submit them here. Rules: https://8chan.moe/agdg/rules.html Also check out theother bunkers should this place prove too slow: http://8agdg.wikidot.com/general:bunkers

Posting a wallpaper in here since I don't think it needs a dedicated thread and the board could use more activity

How to monetize? nodev 05/21/2020 (Thu) 15:44:55 Id: 4dc834 No. 11 [Reply] >>13
I hope to launch my game in about a year, and haven't yet added any monetisation. The game-design aspects of it (what to sell, etc.) are a separate question, but the more important issue is: how do I do it, mechanically? How do I sell digital goods or modify a player account in exchange for real money? Do I need to make a deal with a credit-card provider or bank? Are there open-source libraries I can use?
>>13 *Otherwise, I've been curious about this too. Is there any platform that isn't completely ass? What's the best out there? Quite frankly I do not give a shit that GOG are a bunch of "SJWs" (reminder that the word gets thrown around so much it's not entirely accurate anymore; are they really SJWs or just removed some "nazi" content?) as long as they won't molest my game.
I actually do want to maximize profit to fund more of my projects, so I don't see anything morally wrong with penny and diming the goys EA style at every step if necessary, but honestly it's just inconvenient as fuck for people to pay for digital content in 2020 and most people will pirate it anyway. I will probably make money through donations, because I really do believe that people will give me shitloads of free money if I give them a genuinely good game, because these are a rare commodity these days, and true art speaks to the soul. I also think it's more profitable to monetize shit related to the game instead of the game itself, eg: t-shirts and merch, events, royalties from corporate partnership, etc...
