Steven Universe Consensus Anonymous 05/11/2020 (Mon) 17:50:29 No. 770
With Steven Universe finally dead hopefully how bad was the entire journey? Was it "Oh god throw it into the woodchipper" or "Oh god, light it on fire before throwing it into the woodchipper!" levels of bad?
>>39607 >taking advice from Ian taking advice from Kent Butterworth It's interesting, because according to IMDB Kent hasn't animated since the 90s. However, he's credited as being a timing director and storyboard artist for many things since. "Recognizing the character" is the bare minimum for storyboards, which may be what he wanted to say. Anyways, in all my long 15 minutes google search, I couldn't find the actual quote "If you can recognize the character, it's 'on model'." It may have been in the context of the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog for which he was a director, and referring to Milton's design for Robotnik, cartoonishly expressive. But that's a specific cartoon and a specific context which is lost in Ian's alledged quote
>>39634 He could've gotten a job in the industry after all. >>39637 They're once again ignoring the circumstances while grasping at straws: DiC made half-assed cartoons as long the license of such IP was relevant enough, the times their animations did look competent enough was because of the japanese or the taiwanese getting involved.
>>39652 >He could've gotten a job in the industry after all. Just like his brother could have gotten a job in the federal government if his background check didn't bring up his autismo sibling sending death threats to the then president.

>>39958 The diamonds having such a quick turnover was stupid.
id say lily orchard gets wayyyyyy too much credit for "changing the perception of the show" as twitterfags like to put it, if anything E;R and EZPZ did just as much if not more damage to its reputation and lily took the fall for having the longer bitchfest :P
>>45230 She probably speed up the rot considerably but most people who knew the show were well aware it was kind of shit. She just gave a lot of validation to people who dropped off.
>>45238 yeah you are right on that one. lily is quite the odd character tho, with every solid take she makes on her videos, she has like 5 more that are questionable at best and at worst makes her look like she has extreme tunnel vision like how she said bronies got insecure of themselves due to fox news making them their punching bag back when everybody was making fun of them
>>45244 She does have tunnel vision but every once in a while she is right about something I give a shit about before fucking off to talk about WoW or something for several months.
>>39969 Its almost as if they didn't consider how the diamonds being ok meant.
>>39969 oh you wanted space hitlers? fuck you, you're getting out of touch but well-meaning upper class white moms

>half a decade's worth of posts of people getting filtered by a children's cartoon lol lmao
>>45271 It's less people getting filtered and more people disappointed with the direction of the show and some disappointed with the creator's political ideology. But take it how you like.
>>45271 It's shit. Kids deserve better too.
>>45271 I'm filtered actually pissed because the show is fine if not for the stupid writing
(275.08 KB 1080x1308 MomJew.jpg)

>>45271 I'm going to infiltrate this show and steer it from a dyke show, to a kike show, like it should've been from the very beginning. We'll see who gets the last laugh once the pearls reclaim their aquatic homeland that was promised to them 6 billion years ago, and drown humanity out of resentment and spite for not wanting them there. I'm not joking.
>>45383 The writers focused way too hard on the gems early on, setting up the intrigue and mystery, but then would shove out like 10 episodes on the townies that didn't matter because they didn't really get to do anything substantial over the course of the show, save Lars, but he literally fucking died and even then, his contribution to the plot is helping Steven learn he can bring people back from the dead and that there are misfit gems who'd be happy to rebel against Homeworld. If they let the townies do more for the actual plot other than act as filler in between arcs, that would've been so much better and would've made people actually like them rather than groan when they showed up. On top of that, the way Future was handled was frustrating because it focused almost entirely on Steven and his trauma over wrapping up any of the lingering plot threads from the series. They get handwaved (Jasper? Never changes, just decides Steven is ok when she realizes he's a Diamond. The Diamonds? Became 100% good post movie. Homeworld? Now a democracy where only four gems are really shown to be upset about the change in status quo) for the sake of showing Steven slowly losing his shit and then, after all that build up, we get the big blow up where he turns into a monster, turns back because of the power of love, and then the finale is him all better, with a off hand mention of going to therapy. There's so much they could have done with it and they did the most unsatisfying thing possible. tl;dr- Unsatisfying show, music good though.
(920.89 KB 1920x1090 Uh oh, stinky.png)

The show had a lot of potential, but they squandered it at every opportunity. Every interesting idea they stole paid homage to :^) was either wasted on one offs, waved off in an anticlimactic manner, or turned into gay shit. >Steven's age changing depending on how old he feels? <Brought up in 2 episodes, with one being poorly disguised fetish material >Steven making another attempt to master shapeshifting? <Cat Fingers and the poop desperation episode was all they had in mind >Potential creature tamer arc with the gem monsters being rehabilitated one-by-one by Steven and the gang? <Nah, the Diamonds just give them a bath in the end >Lapis doing anything cool? <Nah, she's the average abusive lesbian now >Peridot doing anything? <Nah, she's a victim of a cancerous shipfag on staff >Will the Cluster be an ongoing threat? <Nah, it's big chilling after hugging it out >Jasper? <Pozzed, then cucked to death >Captain Lars? <Just there for the epic anime reference >Are we focusing on townies because they'll fuse with gems at some point? <NO, they exist only for SoL filler >War with the Diamonds? <Blown on just a couple episodes, ended anticlimactically >Steven shattering Jasper in Future? <Brought back to life immediately, no consequences at all I thought they were building it all up for a Gurren Lagann style coming of age story, but all we got was brainwashing the Diamonds and hugging it out with Barney-zilla. All they can do is ape anime without understanding the appeal.
>>45230 E;R people discounted since it's obvious he was coming at it just to shitpost, if the /pol/ memes weren't the tip off. EZPZ was just Israeli E;R, as ironic as that sounds, with none of the charisma.
>>45442 They fucked up Jasper so bad. Even if she wasn't going to be redeemed, they put her in the opening like she was gonna be important, yet all she does is fight Steven, then teach him to be aggressive and die. And then she gets brought back with no fanfare because the show needs to focus on how her death affected Steven. And in the finale, she shows up, says goodbye, and fucks off into the bowels of Little Homeworld. They could've had her work with Bluebell or maybe find her way off world, or shit, they could keep the Steven worship from when she got shattered, but explore that part of her and have someone challenge it. But nope. Yes, she is my waifu, can you tell?
I like aliens and all but the story couldnt handle an interstellar empire like the Diamond Authority at all, a tiny fraction of it made Pink Diamond's rebel force get fucked up. Steven also has to go to the Diamonds since there is no reason they would ever visit Earth besides crying about Pink Diamond
>>45271 it really is just getting filtered tbh. i wont deny it has problems, the way they resolved the sadie and lars stuff will forever make me mad, but at the end of the day its not a bad or even average show. "great" is debatable but it was competent enough to be enjoyable and theres a lot to like about it, i'd say its good
>>45271 >>45612 Being "filtered" by tumblr garbage is just having taste.
>>45612 You can enjoy the show just fine, I just don't believe there is enough good to say it was worth watching most of it.
(39.69 KB 1024x483 Pearl raped Garnet.jpg)

>>45612 It is objectively bad. It can't even stay consistent in animation. There's nothing left to say about Steven Universe that hasn't already been said. If you genuinely thing it's a good show then you're being willingly ignorant.
>>770 What gets me-especially because fucking NOBODY talks about it, is how the Earth is vastly altered with seemingly no explanation. Does ANYONE realize how big the implications of these vast geographical differences would be for world history, not even counting the existence of the Gems? Steven Universe should have been some insane alt-his show if Rebecca didn't use most of her braincells on shoehorning lesbian relationships into the series.
>>45802 The only two major things are disrupting the Mongols and Muslim/Christian conflicts in Iberia. Don't get me wrong those are certainly big things, but it's not a totally different world. Also you're overthinking it. It was just done as a joke without much thought put into it.
>>45802 >>45850 The biggest reason why people don't really talk about is that it's barely even mentioned in-series. I think the closest they went with the alt-world stuff is the Empire City episode and that one other episode where Garnet had a meltdown in a motel in a fictional state. What's more, gem stuff would have doubtlessly affected human civilization too. We've observed that kindergardens literally suck the life out of places, so there's a vgery good chance that parts of the world are virtual wastelands.
>>45867 It was mentioned in Future at the end where Steven said there were 30 states in America or so
>>45802 I remember making my own idea on alt his but it's very stupid and not canon to the show. But you are right
