Steven Universe Consensus Anonymous 05/11/2020 (Mon) 17:50:29 No. 770
With Steven Universe finally dead hopefully how bad was the entire journey? Was it "Oh god throw it into the woodchipper" or "Oh god, light it on fire before throwing it into the woodchipper!" levels of bad?
>>770 Throw it in the bonfire & watch it burn.
(2.00 MB 215x220 1532821254113.gif)

>>770 Not a bad ride if you tune out the homosexual propaganda and watch it all in one go. I can appreciate it for dealing with darker themes because edge, though not being well versed in art proportions, the inconsistency was forgivable. Not exactly a top quality watch, though good if you want something different from the usual conventionality. If anything, it proved homosexuality only works function wise as an alien concept and isn't compatible with humanity. Only thing I hated was Ronaldo when he deliberately ignored the facts and just pulled conspiracies out of his ass.

I watched all the seasons because sunk cost fallacy and I can say it's ultimately average. The animation is just okay, never really that impressive or interesting. The story starts off with some compelling hooks, but the writers never explore all the facets of it that they could and often get more hung up on the less interesting parts (Beach City townspeople centered episodes, mainly). The show's conflicts are often resolved much too easily or simply, like Steven talking to the Diamonds and they just decide to be good now and everyone's fine with that. Future is slightly better due to the shorter length, but still shares most of the problems the main series had and adds some further problems (gems can now be unshattered by either using all the diamonds' powers or by gathering their fragments and putting them back together). There's also fucked up messages in both shows, for example, it's eventually revealed that while they were fused, Lapis basically tortured Jasper as revenge for what Jasper did to her but this is presented as if it's okay because Jasper is an antagonist and Lapis is not. Steven later shatters Jasper but is basically forgiven because he was going through a mental breakdown. There's a lot more I could go into- how it's really unclear whether fusion is meant to represent sex or relationships in general, how rushed the ending for the original series was, how mad I am that Jasper got shafted for redemption, etc., but I'd need a fuckton more posts for that. tl;dr- It okay, but not as good as the fanbase makes it out to be.
>>770 Overhyped as fuck and into the trash it goes. Seriously, this shit was nothing but queerbait, filler nonsense and lame resolutions to almost every villain and plot point. The show was way below average writing wise and I won't get into the character models. Only reason this garbage became as popular as it did was because of the first finale having two midget dykes the internet news sites, 4/co/ and tumblr wouldn't shut up about for almost year. Naturally moral groups like GLAAD for example shilled it ever harder.
>>770 >how bad was the entire journey? It was quite good the whole first season, then it was decent-mediocre until S4, then it was hot garbage. The main problem of the show is that some interesting concepts that had been introduced plenty seasons before never were properly developed, the cluster is the best example of this. When the plot twist RQ=PD was introduced it was clear they didn't know shit about writing, since all the characters forgiven Rose in an instant. It's sad because I've seen/read other works of Sugar and she's not bad, I think Pug Davis is a quite entertaining reading and I consider her AT episodes among the bests in the show. Maybe she has talent for writing comics and directing single episodes but as a showrunner is quite mediocre and I only hope she would never be a showrunner ever again. >>782 >Queerbait The lore was what kept me watching it.
>>773 >not bad if you ignore half of it this >>775 >average No that's the production quality improvements for the movie and SUF talking. It was definitely not good enough to be called average. >>782 It also had some characters and fanart that were a chuckle/wank/scream. >>789 >not bad >I consider her AT episodes among the bests in the show Everything after season 2 of Adventure time is a write off except huntress wizard.
>>790 >4 image limit mega gay
>>791 OH IT JUST PRETENDS TO ACCEPT WEBP FUCKING GRAND
>>792 Webp doesn't work here
>>790 >Everything after season 2 of Adventure time is a write off except huntress wizard. I know people is divided in this regard, but I prefered AT in later seasons, the prizmo arc was what it made me follow the show rather than just watching random episodes when it aired on CN. Returning to Sugar, I remember you is my favorite scene in the show: https://youtu.be/iOSUriAFLgk
>>838 I still prefer Im just your problem as the best song.
(31.92 KB 475x400 1432164223041.jpg)

>>838 >I know people is divided >but I prefered AT in later seasons >Marceline and Bubblegum Time! >Watch as we get all Evangelion up in here fellow nerds!
>>789 >The lore was what kept me watching it. But the more you learned about it the less interesting it became, especially when it was clear that Sugar didn't put much thought into the world building outside of random symbolism. There was potential, a LOT of it, but it was wasted on Sugar and her half-assed writing team. On the bright side there's still Land of the Lustrous which handled its lore far better and was crystal people adventure before SU even existed.
>>838 I live in america and cannot watch that video. Further, the later seasons were filled with awful shit like the talking misgendered lamp and the entirety of Red Throne. If you're going to pick a time that the show should have stopped, the end of season 2 was the best point.

(288.98 KB 360x202 yousuck.gif)

>>770 It's average. It could have been comfier or edgier but it's like it never decided which it wanted to be. Still better than AT because at least it can be considered 100% Sugar's thing, unlike how Pendleton cucked out and let the monkeys run his circus.
>>998 Listen faggot, if you want people to see your video you put forth the effort to rip it from youtube and post it like I did.

This show is progressive propaganda aimed at children but most of the episodes are boring filler. This show should have been like Big Mouth, a show that dose not pretend to be something else,a show that dose not build some grand narrative,it dose not care about world building or have some deep meaning but it is a show about children being sexualized and that's what Steven Universe should have been, that's what the creators wanted https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuza_ivea9M&pbjreload=10 but instead what we got was a bad story, terrible characters & boring world building

>>770 It had a few really great moments overshadowed by many shitty moments.
>>1303 Apparently a girl and a guy basically combining into one being makes them non-binary rather than being a futa or something.

>>1303 doesn't identify as male or female >>1912 the use of intersex takes care of futa though technically intersex is the term that was invented for abnormal half & half genital formation where one half or the other is nonfunctioning. Stevonnie is (and I can't believe I'm actually reasoning this out) probably a full hermaphrodite since fusions are assumed to be at least equal to the sum of their parts

It was never good. Only the coomers/beta males and tumblrniggers and yurifags/cryptotrannies ever praised it in the chans. The only funny part of it all is how faggots like Lily Peet got sore over redeeming "Space Nazis" (or something). >>2072 >nigger >>2348 >furfag shit

I've only seen the season one finale and some of the first episodes (not counting clips) and it seemed okay. It and RWBY sadden me that such a good (just decent, in SU's case) concept went to the fucking shitter at some point and keeps/kept limping along when it should've just fucking died.
>>6514 >It was never good. It was tho, the first season is quite solid, but why do you think it wasn't good?

>>6553 >Oh no, the show runner is jewish that means is bad because jews are bad! Come on, man, you are better than this. Come on, I know you can elaborate why the show wasn't good, for instance, S1 has plenty pacing problems.

(163.71 KB 601x455 stevenpearlgoesbananas.png)

>>6567 SU's problems have been discussed since the early SU generals. The series was plagued by poor pacing, inconsistent characterization, the short runtime forcing for crammed or pointless episodes, reveals that only cheapened the main plots,it's characters, the myopic writing, the substandart animation and the flub of an initial finale to another with the shorter sequel series. The reason people got angry with it in the first place was because initial fans or people that enjoyed some of the characters were burned by the show squandering it's time before the important arcs with filler episodes before it fucked them up too. Anyone got a collection of painanon's posts? Those were fun to read
>>6567 You even demanding it outs you as tumblr/reddit/cuckchan co. >>6568 It never had potential. You're confusing fanfics/headcanons with the writing. That and memes like Pearl being a cuck.
>>6568 I have been recently rewatching the show, pacing is just a minor problem but it gets worse as the show goes, it's not a big problem having a filler episode next to an important one in S1 but it gets obnoxious to have filler next to the judge arc for instance. Character characterization is way different, Pearl and Garners feels like totally different characters compared with later seasons. Me and some other guys got into the show because of the lore, aside from naturally characters and we got angry because the ideas introduced in S1 didn't go anywhere, like the cluster having no purpose whatsoever. >>6570 >Pearl cuck is a meme Didn't she explicity stated that she was okay with Rose banging other mans and womans in the "It's over isn't" song?
>>770 Wait, I thought I saw this thread over a year ago on h8chan?
>>6579 I don't think so, I only remember a /sug/ thread with twink rainbow quartz as OP pic that lasted like two years. >h8chan I see what you did there

>>770 >dead hopefully It will never die, even though it absolutely fucking should. Has everyone seen the "We two boys should get married but the bully says fags have to be the same color!" spot on Fartoon Network?
>>6579 >>6584 nah there was one, we talked about it before future came out
>>6578 >pacing is just a minor problem but it gets worse as the show goes The show has the problem where almost every time we learn about the gems and their culture or about Rose, the writers decide that there needs to be 5 or 6 filler episodes with the random, mostly boring Beach City townspeople. So you get those episodes where Steven's put on trial and Lars dies and shit but then right after, they have this stupid fucking arc about Connie refusing to talk to Steven and none of what happened on Homeworld is addressed at all. >Character characterization is way different, Pearl and Garners feels like totally different characters compared with later seasons. Remember when Garnet's personality wasn't centered on the fact that she's a fusion? Those were the good 'ol days. >we got angry because the ideas introduced in S1 didn't go anywhere, like the cluster having no purpose whatsoever It existed to foreshadow how the writers were going to handle every new conflict after that point- just have Steven talk it out with the villain and now they're a good guy and everyone's cool with it, no matter what they did in the past.
(41.74 KB 700x700 1567875717793.jpg)

>>7322 >So you get those episodes where Steven's put on trial and Lars dies and shit but then right after, they have this stupid fucking arc about Connie refusing to talk to Steven and none of what happened on Homeworld is addressed at all. Don't remind me, I'm still mad.
>>7325 Me too. Remember there was the episode in that arc where the gems assume he's still reeling from everything that happened on Homeworld but Steven's actually more upset about Connie not talking to him rather than seeing Lars die and nearly getting killed? That sure was great, wasn't it?
Why did sugar shut down internally instead of being more motivated after CN said the show was gonna be canned?
>>29609 Because she's a shit writer/director/showrunner who couldn't even make a simple good vs. evil children's cartoon.
(58.08 KB 900x764 1581812255348.jpg)

>>770 It helped that I found a list online that told me all the episodes I shouldn't watch. Apparently there was a bunch of townie episodes that are just utter garbage and I also didn't watch anything after the movie I'd say my experience was pretty good. I enjoyed the waifus and the /ss/ of Lapis and Steven God only knows how awful the show would've been to sit through had I not found that list though
>>770 Was not that great then became really comfy and nice and then became a bit wank. Also I've become sick of that "comfy" shit the SJWs love. Also way too much of it was about food. like the amount of episodes that revolved around food is fucking crazy and somehow nobody noticed. Background music was awesome.
It's fine. Credit where credit is due, they chose a large scope, made it work and brought it to completion, and then did a victory lap for the benefit of people who wanted to know what happened next. Very few projects achieve that. People criticize the lack of consistency in art style, which I personally noticed, but didn't mind. That said, the movie seemed poorly written and a waste of time (seemed to capitulate on its drawn up stakes in the end when the injector dumps all the poison and Stephen has to just go and fix all the damage), the last season was a bit too neurotic and I did skip one episode of the regular show. >>6526 Personally, the gems are very patronizing in S1, and Stephen is like a literal child in terms of behavior (annoying, loud) which is kind of irritating to watch for some people, I found the show improved when the tone shifted to have everyone be a bit more easy-going, personally.
>>30002 I found Steven to be even more annoying and obnoxious in and after the movie though. But it might've been more because of how much of a switch it was from having him try to redeem everyone, to not giving a fuck about anyone. They could've still toned down his loudness and have kept his good nature imo
This show was pozzed garbage.
>>29609 She's a narcissist who got her deluded fantasy ripped away from her and she couldn't take it
>>30007 They wanted to show him having issues because of all the shit he went through in the main series and becoming an ass because of it, but because there was no build up in the OG series or the movie, it feels like it came out of nowhere and makes 'ol Stevie look like even more of a faggot.
(818.84 KB 1638x3072 1677700089588490.png)

>>32661 The idea behind it was probably puberty & pent up emotions were enough to explain his sudden shift in personality. But it really doesn't work because series Steven always had a bright outlook that always worked out.
>>32662 That too. Steven very rarely got upset with anyone, hell, he was willing to brush past his genocidal extended family's deeds so long as they agreed to be nice from now on, yet he blows up at his dad when he finds out his paternal grandparents were assholes? Seems off for certain.
(197.13 KB 822x1054 20230303_014058.jpg)

>>32667 Rebeccarrot tried to write steven as a traumatized individual but got a lot mixed up, not only was there no build up, but him being an ass could've worked if he did it defensively, like those with PTSD do, including freaking out if they feel like they're in danger, he was too collected when actual danger happened. He should've ran the fuck away from jasper the moment he saw her as well, I literally never understood why Steven went to visit HER and not the other way around, pestering and harassing Steven would've made his shattering of jasper all the more understandable, do you know the stereotype of WWII war vets freaking out to the point of trying to kill somebody? Do that. his outbursts always came at the wrong times. It felt like they wrote Steven as an extension of Spinel afterwards, which would've made sense if Steven had BPD to begin with, they could've made an excellent statement had they managed to explain complex PTSD more clearly, they gave a general overview with the Mahesawran doctor story but that only covered a portion of what trauma is, she didn't explain how it would alter his personality and how it would affect his life, I mean fuck, did they even need to explain it at all? The Movie showed off someone with BPD accurately with Spinel, but they couldn't do that with Steven's CPTSD? if you guys don't know Spinel is written as a stand-in for those with borderline personality disorder, everything lines up with her "toxicity" as rebeccarrot puts it, from the core fear of abandonment, to the way she "splits" again when she gets her memories, it's a very jekyll and hyde sort of thing, imagine a person switching between wonderful and wretched, without a proper inbetween that is Spinel. Now, Steven did actually manage to help spinel, but he took intense psychological damage from his encounter with her, if they could've managed to show the extent of her kind of damage (as it was recent) then they would've successfully manage to communicate to their audience that those who deal with a BPD'er can themselves be inflicted a new type of psychological (emotional) trauma from the tumoltous interactions that can alter your life significantly. Steven may have been able to deal with other types of trauma, but this recent emotional damage broke him, they didn't communicate that with the audience as much as they thought. Things happened yes, but as steven said, there's always going to be more work be done, which is the part where someone is still processing all of that baggage and being able to portray that accurately and not leave your audience filling in the blanks is very important. Future was such a wreck man, I wanted more Steven, but that was the cost. You could tell the crew had so many ideas and they kind of fumbled it, and the mediocre final episode was their way of accepting that fact, that shit was so underwhelming, even from an emotional standpoint, I was expecting some sort of payoff, or catharsis, but it is what it is, a wrap up.
>>32673 Fellas I'm starting to get the impression that Rebecca Sugar may be a bad writer.
>>32675 I get the sense that she and her team bit off way more than they could chew out of her ambitiousness and while the show is a commercial success (I assume, don't know the actual ratings or anything), it's immensely flawed to the point that it makes watching any of it difficult the further you get in.
>>32697 I don't doubt they were more ambitious than their scope & skills. Though I don't think the show was a financial success. They had no real official merch like toys that could've made it a big success. Though obviously it was big enough to not be written off as a tax break.
>>32673 What is Sugar even doing nowadays? The only recent thing accord to IMDB is some shitty lines for a piss poor smash clone.
>>32705 Do any of CN's current shows have much merch? I don't ever remember seeing much for Adventure Time when it was still airing, outside of things like shirts and such.
>>32716 Adventure Time had some during later seasons if not during Distant Lands. Everything else had stuff after the fact.
>>32713 A cameo in amphibia and some documentary interviews. I'll just take solace in the fact outside of Craig of the Creek their entire crews seems to have been ignored by the industry as a whole and none of the higher ups are creating anything new

If there are some good things that came out the shit show that is Steven Trooniverse, they are that more people are waking up to the degeneracy of Sex-Pozzed LGBTQIAPD+/Degenerate-Alphabet lunacy being pushed by the current animation industry, especially in works made towards children, as well as to the alarmingly large number of maladjusted adults that gravitate towards programming like Steven; and, also, that both Becky Sucrose and her hubby, Ian Jones-Quarterly, got THE LOCATION OF THEIR NEW HOUSE (NOT THE ADDRESS, THOUGH) leaked by Cartoon Brew, in an article that has since been deleted: https://archive.is/XFFuP - Archive of article https://archive.ph/I0SoV - Archive of Twitter link to the article Fortunately there is another article from Dirt: https://www.dirt.com/gallery/showbiz/entertainment-industry/rebecca-sugar-house-los-angeles-1203584237/sugar-2/ (https://archive.ph/BSuVN) Naturally, the degenerates that make up the Western Animation Industry cabal got mad at the article and demanded that it be taken down, which it did; here are some of those that called for the takedown: Justin K Thompson, director of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse, and Peter Ramsey, the director of Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse, two loony liberals who think A.I. art is evil and cry about racism everywhere, demanded that the article be deleted (https://archive.ph/Zdki6, https://archive.ph/U2Ggk). Dana "Dyke" Terrace, creator of The Owl House and (((Alex Hirsch's))) personal whore whom he used to engage in threesomes with a third female partner, not only demanded that the "dumbass tweet" be taken down (https://archive.is/I0Fyb) but she also promoted Catsuka, industry shill blog run by a French nigger, to counter CB (https://archive.ph/Q62aX), which Catsuka responded by thanking her and talking about her short, Kickball, that he aired on theCatsuka TV channel (https://archive.ph/PLD5U, https://archive.ph/TWh8G) Jessica A. Mahon, a Canadian artist from Vancouver who works for WildBrain, and is notorious for running her mouth and demands vengeance against conservatives; she demanded that the article be taken down because it "is dangerous and the implication you're making is disgusting" (https://archive.ph/eLPLV) And finaly, some more faggots that complained about the article: https://archive.ph/pZMph - faggot that thinks that normal people won't look up the addresses of the degenerates that make up the animation industry and thatyou just can't Streisand Effect this shit https://archive.ph/EJwmC - retard that thinks spreading info about the house is equivalent to posting their address and phone numbers https://archive.ph/e6bXg - This bitch thinks that sharing shit that can be found pretty easily with a quick search is harmful, especially when leftists would love to find out how to make a bomb https://archive.ph/6U88r - Finding out where these degenerates live is being "creepy" while making cartoons about thinly-veiled sexual practices of alien rock-people is normal Also, fuck /co/mblr specifically, for it's because of /co/mblr, I (probably) got permabanned off CuckChan because of post I made about know the location of Sucrose's home, hope that board goes down forever and its staff get doxed and their assholes blown open.

>>770 The theories and autism surrounding the show were more entertaining than the series proper. I watched the first season but the whole thing just felt bland in between the actually enjoyable moments. So I would say the actual thing was a 3/10 but the fanon stuff a solid 7/10.
>>32786 Hey hey hey! It's Really Fat fucking Albert!
>>32844 It's a shame because there were a lot of good theories and ideas for what the series would be past the first season and then they fucked it up and barely touched upon the alien stuff in favor of personal drama or poorly written arcs with unsatisfying endings. The fan stuff from back then was legitimately better than how the show progressed.
>>32844 >>32852 The irony is, despite Sugar trying so hard to ape anime in all the wrong ways, she ultimately falls short compared to Japan's work.
>>32855 >Our enemies are destined to be gods. Bullshit. The only thing their glorious "Rainbow Age of Television" made me do is give up television. Really pisses me off about what they've been cramming down the throats of children. LGBT and racial politics has no place in children's media. If freaks and the like cannot teach their own fucking spawn about their degenerate lifestyles and way of thinking. Then that's their problem. It doesn't take a village television, computer, tablet, or YouTube to raise their freak children. That's their responsibility.
>>32869 Don't respond to nigger pill. He's spamming every thread he can right now.
>>32854 Oh god imagine a PPG:Z version of Steven Universe.
>>32871 It would only be possible if Steven Universe was as action oriented & marketable as RWBY. Since it doesn't focus on an actual cute young cast of girls, the chances aren't very likely.
>>32871 If they don't axe it, the live-action series will be like Steven Universe.
>>32844 >>32852 What were the "good" aspects of SU? I dropped the show about halfway through the first season. Is there any shows that are similar to it that are actually decent?
>>32912 >What were the "good" aspects of SU? Mostly the background/LORE™ and implied sci fi shit. besides that there are like... the musical scenes but that is about it. In terms of similar cartoons I would say that any sci fi, mystery or teen super hero ones would be close enough... So shit like Danny Phantom, Gravity Falls, Detentionaire, Star Trek but that list is mostly just throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks.
It had potential, but it suffered from bad writing, poor pacing, and too many filler episodes. The ending sucked as the series buildt up this conflict and just has the villains talked down because they've spent thousands of years grieving over a dead sister. The Diamonds didn't even learn anything either, even in Future you can still see them talking down to other Gems and there's not really any indication the intergalactic empire with a rigid caste system has changed at all or will really change in the long term. Something also seems wrong about the Diamonds only listening to Steven because he is also technically a Diamond. If Rose had actually been a Quartz it's doubtful talking them down would have worked. >>32913 >Mostly the background/LORE™ and implied sci fi shit. Too bad that the show never really explores most of this. There's so much there hinted at that is just never elaborated on, not even with any kind of supplementary material. Gems seem to be more like robots and are implied to not have naturally formed like organic species. Who or what created them and why? The Diamond Authority has colonized dozens of worlds. Were humans simply the first sapient species they encountered or did they wipe out other sapient civilizations? The Crystal Gems use the term magic to refer to their abilities and gem artifacts, but Gem technology is really advanced. Is it actually magic and magitech we're seeing or is Clark's Third Law in play? Gems are repeatedly shown having difficulty with human time scales and we know their empire was well developed six thousand years ago when they came to Earth. How long have Gems been around? What is the point of maintaining such a huge Empire with a dedicated soldier class of Quartz gems and experiments in apparent super weapons like the Cluster? Are their other civilizations they are in conflict with that they have to defend themselves against? Are rebellions enough of a problem? Did the war on Earth spark a larger civil war on other colonies? Peridot and Lapis didn't know what art was, but the ruins we see on Earth clearly has examples of elaborate art and architecture. One of the ruins even has a "Moon Goddess Statue" in what appears to be some form of temple. Apparently Gems have religion? What is going on with Gem culture to have these sorts of things in their ruins, but also that at least some of them have no concept of art? What has the Diamond Authority been doing since they left Earth? How big is the Empire now? There's just so much that's hinted at then just never explored or elaborated on at all. >besides that there are like... the musical scenes Agreed, at least there some good music in this show.
>>32921 >There's just so much that's hinted at then just never explored or elaborated on at all. Yeah, the focus was divided between the town stuff, that was irrelevant for the most part, and the space bullshit. I guess that those could be better integrated but would require the gems and space bullshit to be more detailed in a way that would get people pissed at the show for other reasons besides The Gays. I guess it would end up closer to that green text about SU religious paralels.
>>32989 It would end up
>>32989 It would end up with Steven recruiting the townies to fight against a gem related threat like Jasper or Peridot.
>>32989 Literally just keep it as a monster of the week format like before but it's something actually terrorizing the town rather than just on the beach or at an abandoned temple. Why did they even have temples if the only purpose was to harvest the planet then destroy it?

>>33018 But they're a militaristic race that doesn't age or need to eat. I don't think they can feel real boredom. Amethyst is canonically defective. This world building is just too much of an inconsistent mess.

>>32989 Now that you bring up the town, it's weird as shit that no one ever seems to give much of a shit about the gems. They only seem to react when gem issues affect the entire town and even then, they don't seem to have any sort of contingencies for gem shit until later, and at that point, it's just 'get as far away from town as possible until whatever is fucking things up is stopped by Steven/the Crystal Gems'.

>>33070 I believe that Ronaldo is just retarded. I don't think the gems have any real reason, or a way, to hide themselves.
While Rebecca got spinel right, she completely botched the dynamic between Steven and White Diamond. Steven is an empath, while WD is a narcissist. Sasuga was too busy focusing on the gay butt stuff to properly incorporate these two elements flawlessly in time. https://www.elephantjournal.com/2016/08/is-it-possible-to-be-both-an-empath-a-narcissist/ This next part is pure speculation, Steven was supposed to be caught off guard by white diamond in her introduction, her hugging him instead of sending him to his room, and saying how much she missed him, beginning the infamous lovebombing phase, having him be gaslit into thinking she isn't that bad, his empathic state being directly exploited by white. There is a very strong dynamic between narcs and empaths, and this show didn't show it too well which is extremely unfortunate, it's one of those "opposites attract" situations. This is just like how real life narcissistic people manipulate empaths and mess with their heads, this would've really added a lot of much needed subtlety into the show of SU instead, please read up on the narc and empath dynamic, it'll make you put the pieces together on how a lack of empathy allows narcissists to fake it extremely well and completely mindbreak those who are very emotionally attuned, if it was executed in this way, Steven potentially turning against the gems would've been more shocking because it would be a mistake empaths make when the narc cuts off their support system. There is a lot of different types of damage someone can have done to them, but when it hits you right in the core of who you are, you can lose yourself and who you are, resulting in destructive consequences that can take a lifetime to heal.
>>33076 That makes sense when you put it like that. Shame they didn't do that and also shame White Diamond is so hot.
Apologies for the autistic detail here. I used to be a fan of the show before realizing how shit the writing and worldbuilding actually was. This show seemed like it had so much potential early on and it disappoints and angers me how much of it was wasted or revealed to have never been there in the first place. >>32996 IIRC the closest we ever get to indication of major human involvement with Gems is the mayor getting nervous that someone would be asking about a coverup after the battle with Jasper and the Hand ship crashing. I thought that was going to lead to indication that at least the US government is well aware of Gems and deliberately suppressing public knowledge, but yet again this is something never explained or elaborated on. It also seems nonsensical that human research and experiments with Gemtech wouldn't be a thing. The number of Crystal Gems active after the war can be counted on one hand and they seem to have reluctance on directly fighting or killing humans which seems like it would be inevitable that humans would be using Gem artifacts and trying to reverse engineer and replicate the technology. Related, it always puzzled me that Rose's human fangirling and Crystal Gem idealism never had major issue with human flaws and evils. When the Rebellion was going on humans would have been just barely out of the Stone Age. Surely Rose and the Crystal Gems were witness to humanity's progression of technology and their conflicts. In other words they would have seen first hand humans go from fighting with sticks and rocks to developing nuclear weapons and the concept of M.A.D. This seems like something that should have caused some serious questioning of their views. >>33020 Agreed. That there's very little explanation of the Caste System annoyed me too. We don't even know how the Diamonds were made or if other Gems are produced in a non-standard way like Pearls. >>33022 The way it seems to work is healing the person as they're dying or shortly after death, meaning it only works under specific circumstances. That said, I agree that it's weird there aren't more Pink people around as Lion is a couple centuries old IIRC. That said I agree it's weird that Rose didn't ever intentionally try to save dying humans like that even if Lion was when she discovered she had that ability. It's also strange Steven never considers the implications and that at least Connie didn't get Pinked too. The show has more than one episode about her being "just human" and at one point Pearl's training has Connie get overprotective of Steven enough to start disregarding of her own safety. That just seems like the kind of combination that would eventually result in her getting Pinked both to make her more able to compete with Gem threats, bring her back if she gets killed, and extend her lifespan so he isn't guaranteed to outlive her. Related to that it's strange that the show never has Steven delve into that he's probably going to outlive nearly every human he's ever known due to how his powers work, but that's another criticism of the show that Steven doesn't really ask questions or show the sort of curiosity you'd expect the average kid his age to. At least considering using his healing powers to extend his loved ones lives would make sense. >>33023 Considering that the method Rose used to make Steven apparently killed her I doubt a lot of Gems would be willing to give up their immortal lives to make a hybrid. On the other hand back when I was watching the show and they brought up the Cluster experiments I expected there would be a reveal that Rose's method of making Steven was based in some form Howeworld experiments in implanting Gem Shards in humans to be used as soldiers and slaves. Pearl mentions the shards used to make Frybo used to be implanted in clothing or armor to make cheap workers, but they tended to become unstable over time. We also see apparently altered plant and animal life like the giant strawberries, crystal gems, and crystal shrimp. The strange fruit trees in The Zoo and just the existence of a human Zoo that has existed for thousands of years also implies some biological engineering and study. It's yet another thing that never gets explained or elaborated on. That all gave me the implication that Homeworld was experimenting on plant and animal life. A logical progression of that would for there to have been human experiments with the intent to create cheap soldiers and slaves, but much more stable than the shards used to make things like Frybo. It always seemed like a major missed opportunity for the show to never use that as a plot point. >>33074 Yet another thing never explained is all the weird alterations to to the Earth beyond indication of a terraforming project that would have turned the planet into some sort of shellworld like megastructure.
(622.04 KB 320x218 bad writing.gif)

>>33078 It's bad world building.
>>33079 Agreed. As I said I was into this show before I realized how shit it was. I'm not defending it, just pointing out more flaws, things that never went anywhere, and stuff that could have made this show better. Honestly, if the show had been canceled after Season 1, 2, or 3 I would have probably looked back on it much more fondly. Season 2 and 3 are where the flaws start becoming much more apparent and it became more obvious the show was never going to deliver on what it laid the foundation for. After that I sporadically watched mainly to see if it improved which it never did. I will admit some of the songs from later seasons are good, but they don't come anywhere close to redeeming the show.
>>33078 >Considering that the method Rose used to make Steven apparently killed her I doubt a lot of Gems would be willing to give up their immortal lives to make a hybrid. Yeah, the fact that there are only 4 active gems on Earth doesn't help.
>>33078 > When the Rebellion was going on humans would have been just barely out of the Stone Age. Yeah that by itself would lead to SU humanity being pretty different even IF the gems don't do anything relevant, despite involving themselves in multiple cultures like how Pearl and Amethyst collections imply.

>>33055 >Did they ever explain how Rose could give birth to Steven AND BE Steven? I think Steven is like Lapis mirror. He would probably have been a stillbirth because alien hybrid fuckery and the gem, Rose, is what keeps him alive and gives him his powers. He could have been Pinked but odds are he would be stuck as a newborn forever and that is just kind of cruel so Rose decided it was best to kill herself to make Steven. This sounds retarded as hell but since we are talking about Rose it is in character. That and I find the idea of Pink seeing seeing the future consequences of her actions and make Steven deal with that because she couldn't be bothered.

Yet again also questioning why Lapis can't solve the physical part of the problem alone since she can move all the world's oceans then put them back without causing a mass extinction, while injured. >>770 I agree with the consessus that majority of anons came to. Bad storytelling, bad worldbuilding, incohesive artstyle and much more. Which is funny because harry turtledove wrote a better story about alien and human invasion than these guys and likely got better fan remakes. I'd love to see a competent writer do a better SU. But it won't happen. Because there aren't many competent writers anymore. I find it funny how some of the designs (of gems and even some women) work if they are in proper or better artstyle. The lore is a mess. Even from just osmosis. Humans are the only intelligent species the gems met. And never before or after that. Which just makes me wonder. Is there even a hint that they were created or had a creator? Or were they just farted out or something? Another is the little of governments actual involvement. Do we know what feds are doing? No, fuck you. Then is the map... why? Changing the whole earth yet not changing much culture wise is dissapointing. Borders made human cultures this counts in sea and continents. Since medditirenians sea isn't that much of thing you know how much would that change the whole history of europe, africa and middle east? Japans is also connected to mainland siberia has a hple big enough that it destroys mongolia. That subhuman didn't think while drawing the map. But Tl;dr Would fuck pearl and have many kids even if I had to break the canon.

And I get why people like it and hate. And no I don't mean gayshit. That literally ricochettes off me better then anything off 180° slope. The show has some serious identity problems, is it a slice of life with action elements? is it full on comedy? drama? Musical? Anthology? What? They put too much different stuff and so far it feels like a mess. But the characters are nicely designed (gems) with few changes needed to "fix them" (pic rel) They are likable to a certain degree (the gems and greg too). But we actually don't have much time with them, instead we get a whole episode about ronaldo. don't get me wrong he's the type of dumbass that is actually right. Despite everyone thinking he's a weirdo But he doesn't deserve THAT much content. There are more episodes where gems don't do jack shit playing a minimal role at best, then intresting episodes. The artstyle for the first few episodes was lackluster too. But I'll see how they'll manage to fuck it up, already seeing bits from 6th/future season make me dissapointed. also why did they need to point out that stevonnie is a hermaphrodite in the dove commercial?
(298.21 KB 2048x1504 Diamonds date.jpeg)

>>37586 The series probably would have worked best as a slice of life building up to the actiony stuff in later seasons. Also the stupid ethos of "No real villains, only misguided people" means they shit the bed with White Diamond, after keeping her an alien and almost eldritch entity they end up showing her in full and she's defeated by Steven shouting "NO U!" and that somehow convinces her to stop being Gem Frieza. Still agree with you on the character designs, even if the best ones are just Sugar ripping off anime Blue Diamond best diamond

At least the porn is good.
>>37619 >even if Future decided to give him brain problems I haven't gotten there yet, but jesus christ it feels like a korra tier character assassination. (225.55 KB 900x1200 THANKS_GARNET.jpg)

>>37621 The thing is, I think the premise of Future wouldn't have been so bad if they handled it better. Steven cracking up could've worked but something about the execution feels off, like they simply made him react in ways he wouldn't have with the excuse of 'he's been through a lot and it's finally getting to him'. The fact that they barely touch on the original show's ending or the movie other than to say, 'Earth is totally fine now and everyone's perfect except Steven' is disappointing. The movie implied the diamonds had a long way to go still but in Future, they act as though they had their character development off screen. Same for Spinel, it's like her issues stopped existing past the movie and now she's totally fine. The only thing I can give Future is I liked the one episode focusing on Jasper and the one that showed not all gems are content to just stop destroying planets.
>>37623 >in ways he wouldn't have with the excuse of 'he's been through a lot and it's finally getting to him'. The fact that they barely touch on the original show's ending or the movie other than to say, 'Earth is totally fine now and everyone's perfect except Steven' Yeah I never looked at it that way. >>37586 Spoilers for anyone who cares. Update no.1 finnished season two and got into season 3 Why are the seasons structured in such a weird way? Season 1 is long and nearly nothing happens in it but has a big ending, season 2 has something for the second half or two thirds, but nothing happens in the first 10 episodes like one episode is really important but otherwise it isn't. Also at the beginning of S3 they finnish two big plot points of season 2, that being malachite and cluster right after each other. Atleast jasper gets thrown into hole in earth so they can do crap with her later. Still dissapointed how weirdly rushed these two problems gor fixed. And then the show again slows down. Also the first part season 2 was awful. Some rpisodes right after each other slowed to a halt of not doing anything and I've nearly wanted to just slip them if the episodes weren't so short in the first place. So far the most fun episodes from the latest episodes were Mr. Greg, the dreaming episode, bassically any episode with pearl is super enjoyable for me for some reason. Maybe because I waifu her but whatever. So far it's kinda getting better. Atleast season 2 was the most enjoyable.

I mean, fan art does always pick up the slack but most of the people I know who liked SU always thought Pearl was a nag. Finished 3rd season. Finale was dissapointing. And double so future insight that pink is rose quartz. It does feel insulting to have pink be rose quartz because I guess they wanted steven to be an ass by the epilogue or I dunno. Maybe so Rebecca could make diamonds listen to steven. Because otherwise steven would've needed to shatter or bubble them. Lazy storytelling. Likely. Also the season was really short and season finale was abrupt and didn't feel like one. Will continue to watch the show to see how it goes on. I'm still not ready for a single pale rose though or Future. Sorry for such a short post
>>38068 Having Rose be Pink Diamond pays tribute to the time honored tradition of revolutionary leaders usually being form the same group they're revolting against (Lenin, Mao, etc)
>>38068 >first two pics Hats off to fan artists who are able to make the most shapeless Cal Arts blobs fuckable.
>>38068 The problem I have with Rose being Pink is that they basically use that as an excuse to do a complete turn around on her character. The Crystal Gems shit on Rose but still espouse the views she came up with and instilled into them. It would've been nice if they'd had an episode in Future to actually have the characters deal with their feelings about Rose rather than everyone going for 'Rose bad' and the only episode even remotely about her being about a bunch of Rose Quartz gems making everyone uncomfortable. Same shit should've happened with the rest of the diamonds since the finale was a bust. Have you watched the movie yet, anon? It's probably the best thing to come out after the main series ended, though it has its issues.
>>38140 The worst thing about the Rose twist is that it degrades all the other Gems who allied with her from rebels to toadies of one of the highest authorities.
>>38133 You should take a look at other of cubedcoconuts work you'll like them. >>38140 >Have you watched the movie yet, anon? No I'm a stupidly slow at watching shows. Even shows like these.

Sorry for posting a bit later. But rather wanted some time before the last one and this one. Finished season 4 and 6 episodes in 5th season. So far it's fine. But I hate that the episodes after meeting the honestly good offcolors episode are super boring and uninteresting filler episodes who pale in comparison to those preceding them. The little british gremlin (aquamarine) is funny. Tldr. It is a mostly enjoyable ride. The only episode I'm not prepared for is Bismuth casual. Due to all the bispearl shiping that it created. Also for an lgbt show... it sure has nearly no romantic relationships and only one which gets created and that's The one between Cunny and steven I don't think pic 5 is too nafw to be spikleted so sorry if it is.
>>38314 >Cunny Curry Cunnie is there to give Steven a “badass” side character who goes from a nerdy girl with glasses to an ass kicker over the course of the series. I think she does more actual fighting than Steven himself. Granted, it is true that had Steven gotten a taste of her honeypot curry bowl, he wouldn’t have been such an emo in Future.
>>38316 If Steven is Rebecca Sugar's way of displaying her ideal of what young boys should be, Cunnie is Rebecca Sugar's diverse self insert. She really should have just made this is a series for girls to begin with. It's not like Steven acts anything like a boy would.
>>38317 >Connie >Pearl >Sadie How many self inserts does Sugar have in her show? god damn.
>>38318 Well Cunnie is obviously Sugar's most obvious self insert being a bookworm with strict parents who wants to be an action hero. Sadie is more of just Sugar maybe venting her frustrations with her mom & work I guess. If she's anything related to Sugar at all. Pearl is.... Just a bad character. I don't think Sugar really used her as a self insert.
>>38314 The show has a problem with that, doing episodes that shake up the plot in a major, interesting way and then immediately after having a bunch of filler. It's good to have a break after stuff like that, but they go too far. The episodes you're talking about after the Off Colors one are the most egregious to me, to be honest.
>>38316 >Granted, it is true that had Steven gotten a taste of her honeypot curry bowl, he wouldn’t have been such an emo in Future. True that. He literally should have sex. Likely he could do that legally even since delmarva or is a fake state. >>38320 >The episodes you're talking about after the Off Colors one are the most egregious to me, to be honest. I agree, somehow these just feel the mist insulting. You have the one with mayor dewey and then thebone whete steven is obsessed with that connie hates him. Literally no connection to the overall story and only feel like... I dunno how to compare it.
>>38331 Some art cause fuck it
(1001.47 KB 2464x1936 1471185957013.png)

>>38331 The most frustrating part is the fight between Steven and Connie makes no sense. Connie is mad because Steven gave himself up to Aquamarine when she and her henchmen gems were so strong that she was easily taking down the rest of the Crystal Gems. Connie acts as though they could've stopped Aquamarine as Stevonnie when there's no guarantee that would've worked and Aquamarine was holding the people of the city hostage. If Steven hadn't given himself up, then it's pretty highly likely that Aquamarine would've killed them. But Connie doesn't give a fuck about that. Worse still, this stupid plot happens right after all that stuff with the Off-Colors and Lars, meaning instead of getting any resolution to that, we as the audience are stuck watching Steven mope about Connie when at least for me, I'd have rather seen what the fuck happened next.
>>38359 It could've worked if you could actually have Steven present that argument & Connie steps down realizing she's in the wrong for not thinking about others. But she's a minority girl & Steven's a white boy so that was never gonna happen on Sugar's watch.

>>38359 >steven gets back home from homeworld, while being at his own trial. And leaving his best friend out in space. Which would be traumatic >nah let's have him being sad that his curry cunny is pissed at him evenbif they'd likely lose to topaz and aquamarine as if they were nothing. >have 6 episodes absolutely about nothing, instead of having just two or one episode about steven trying to get make up with connie Stevens the literal deffinition of a simp. And he doesn't even get to pound her. Literally. And he gets pissed that he couldn't get to be a permafusion with a girl who has her own plans in life. (But we get there when we I get there.)
I have nothing to add except saying Steven Universe was an interesting concept that became disappointing incredibly fast.

I still don't like the plottwist, and I hate how they did. Haven't seen the episode after that when they say hiw they despise rose and such shit apparently. But I did enjoy the episode though, maybe because it was actually pearl centric and it wasn't another oh so precious usless episodes about random townies. It felt fine and servicible. I'm still not ready for the finale. Even though I do enjoy this show, the end feels rushed from everything what I've seen because it is lmao The movie and the future will hopefully be a bit better. But I think I'll honestly cry to the ending. Not because stevens leaving and such bullshit, but because the show ended completly. And honestly it's a shame, but I wouldn't want it to continue. A solid reboot would be nice and hopefully not as steven centric. Which feels like the worst part of the shows ideas. There many more. Might give a full on census later, but maybe not.

>>38429 >Talking about spinel, did anyone make an 8chan version of channel? I don't believe anyone did, no. And yeah, I would pretty much agree on 'A Single Pale Rose'. Not a bad episode on the whole, but the plot twist is lame and it's the beginning of the end for Rose's character. Not that I liked her all that much, but it feels weird how easily the show flips from glorifying her to condemning her. Even when Bismuth appeared and we learned what happened to her, it seemed like the show wanted to present what Rose did as messed up, but understandable. Then A Single Pale Rose happens and everyone just goes 'nah, fuck Rose/Pink, she didn't do anything right', and the show starts to just throw random terrible things she did as Pink in as if to say 'see, she really was bad'. It feels really forced. I'd have liked the twist better if that wasn't where it led.

Hello, I'm from /AC, I was passing by here and I saw this post, there we also had a post from Steven Univers when the now deceased Hispachan existed and we discussed why something that promised went to shit regardless of that form. Which led an anon to carry out an odyssey that made us laugh with his delusions and then another anon made a fanfic that ended in an attempt at a comic (even the black one didn't finish drawing it but he's working on it) >How bad was the whole trip? half and half, the only good thing was the porn it can still generate. The truth is I was surprised the time I heard that fans almost made a girl commit suicide just because of a drawing. https://8chan.se/recuerdos/res/208277.html#
>>38459 >The truth is I was surprised the time I heard that fans almost made a girl commit suicide just because of a drawing. There was also the time a make-a-wish cancer kid had Rebecca Sugar tell him the plot twist of a major then upcoming episode early, so the fandom harassed him trying to find out what it was before the episode aired. There’s a reason SU fans were considered worse than bronies back in the day.

Finnished Stevens universe. Tldr: It's deffintly watchable, deffintly not a super trashfire. That goes to captain faggothawk. It's not good either though. Longer version I liked it. But honestly lot's of trash that didn't need to be there. And yes the finale was rushed and just felt like they needed to wrap this up. (Which infact was the case). But music is great. Lore is fine-ish and so are is steven himself. While everyone around him is more intresting, but I get why he's the main character. The space opera aspects felt weak and you only truelly get them in the final season. Majority of the gems we get to see as characters are intresting. Even warmed up to bismuth after all of the shit. (Maybe because there isn't much of her eveb after everything.) I guess I liked the show because gem were an inhuman women species and that made feel way better about it. On the final episode(s) on it's own. The anticipation towards meeting white were great, but during the whole pinkening of her it fell apart, as a huge fan of HPLs work it's disappointing to see an eldrich being, well... being neutered. The last few episodes felt like they just wanted to sew everything that happened in season 5 into a package. It was just meh. Honestly didn't care jack shit about killer sadie and lars just being kinda there is just meh. Not doing anything with him. Now onto transformers: the movie: the bootleg Steven universe: the movie let's be serious the movies plot is kinda just transformers the ('86) movie but worst. I want more of this. she's the classic mentally damaged chick that might murder who she's attracted too if they reject her. >>38530 Still seems like a weird writing decision. Her entire motivation was being abandoned by Rose... so why wouldn't she attach to her son who is repeatedly referred to as Rose?
>>38528 Because I dunno likely they didn't have a way to let spinel work out in the future series and since CN only wanted a final season and nothing more I think they even couldn't so they just threw her in with the diamonds. >>38526 That explains everything perfectly. >>38542 >>38530 As I said that it's likely that they didn't have anywhere to put her or just didn't want to be future about spinel and steven. Even if that'd be an intresting final season.

>>38548 If the final season had been focused on the aspects of the show that hadn't gotten enough development in the main show (pretty much anything regarding the Homeworld gems in general, continuing Spinel's story from the movie, anything with Jasper), I would have been more inclined to like it. Instead, it's just Steven constantly pushing his family and friends away for no reason and then none of them doing anything to help him even though it's obvious the kid is cracking up. Worst part is we get the big climax of Steven turning into a literal monster and being hugged into submission by his family, with the implication that he has a long way to go still but that he's finally going to get help and stop diamond-ing out whenever he gets upset... and then the finale just timeskips to a few months later and he might as well be fixed. Future feels like a waste because they don't use what time they do have wisely and focus too hard on Steven yet again, when it could've been the chance to have the spotlight given to pretty much any other character.

>>38558 >>38545 Finnished future. Finale was fine, everything coming up to it was awful. Wish they didn't go this route. Anyway off to watch an already better show like beast wars: transformers.
>>38563 Well, kudos to you, Anon. You sat through the entire thing out of stubbornness and a questionable taste in waifus. At the end, was it worth it? (Seriously, what’s your overall take on the series?)
>>38565 It's mediocre. And tries to be too many stuff at the same time sometimes contradicting itself out of plot progression. I'm not gonna watch it again. Mostly because it was such a slog to watch and future just was a disappointment. If you want to watch something. Go watch the movie. Probably the best thing so far because it's sort of self contained and can be watched without any previous knowledge of the series. But if you want a space opera cartoon. Watch any transformers or ben 10 show. Oh yeah will need to finnish samurai jack too while I am at it. I'll likely keep posting in this thread just for sharing pics or sharing ideas.

>>38565 Also >questionable taste in waifus. What did you just call me you little piece of shit.
>>38566 >But if you want a space opera cartoon. Watch any transformers or ben 10 show. Didn't Ben 10 spill it's spaghetti in all of the follow-up series? Also, I'd throw BattleTech in there, if for no other reason than as an introduction to that universe.
>>38568 Only so far as saying all the magic & supernatural elements are just aliens.
>>38568 >Didn't Ben 10 spill it's spaghetti in all of the follow-up series kinda, a lot of stuff was retconed but they were still pretty solid.
>>38568 It's clear the sequels were overly driven by writers seeing people finding Ben and Gwen's interactions as romantically tinged then, rather than just ignore it or joke about it (like how Supernatural's two leads are constantly mistaken for a gay couple and have to point out they're brothers), they did every hamfisted method of trying to get rid of it. Like having a psycho villain redeemed for the sole purpose of giving Gwen a boyfriend level hamfisted.
>>39146 >anon hates kevin Ok now you are just straight up retarded. I don't care of any boomeresque bs, the shows were good I liked them and honestly don't get why people hate om them. The reboot being crappy is all fine and good. But the actual sequel

>>38482 >It's deffintly watchable, deffintly not a super trashfire. I have a friend who binge watched Steven Universe and come to the same conclusion. This is the thing: Watching the how was a way worse experience when it was airing because you have to endure hiatuses, which were really exhausting, the period of hiatus right after The Trial was the worst example of this, IIRC it was 10 months and right after the most useless time wasting arc in the entire series. Another thing is that a lot of plotlines and foreshadowing didn't go anywhere, the best example of this is the Escapism song: https://youtu.be/NnrgvaspOhA A lot of people talked about it online for years, it sprout a lot of discussion, how sings it? why? in what context? and when it finally appeared on the show: Nobody. Nobody actually sang the song, it was just some background music for one scene. Same goes with a lot of shit that happens on the show, Steven Universe pretty much punished you for investing time on it. Something similar happened to me when I binge watched all of adventure time, it was far better than I remember, mostly because I don't have to wait literal years for plot or character development. It's actually quite fun rewatching it nowadays that most of the white noise died out and I know which plot lines don't go anywhere and which ones are actually kind of decent. >>39494 >>39498 She's cute, but I can't think about her in lewd terms, I prefer to regard her as a mother. Sad Sucrose didn't do shit with her after the PD=RQ revelation, which seemed to be the most logical step, but IIRC the show was cancelled at that point, so probably she already had an idea how to develop Pearl but it didn't came to fruition.

>>39499 >but I can't think about her in lewd terms, I prefer to regard her as a mother. Well I find lovable because her being so motherly. Maybe that's why I made a daughteru oc that is our daughter.
>>39499 Personally, it's an okay enough watch, but my dislike of a lot of the elements comes from that initial presentation. Watching it as it aired and going through all that speculation and waiting was terrible. The songs are good, though. And some of the gem designs ain't half bad.

>>39525 You can't rape the willing. Plus that's hot
>>39504 >Watching it as it aired and going through all that speculation and waiting was terrible Exactly. The series introduces a lot of concepts and then it doesn't do shit with it. For instance they completely forget that Lapis was one of the strongest characters in the entire series and not doing shit with her on the WD fight. I've always wondered if that came from the show getting axed fo Crewniverse's absolute incompetence, but considering the show was already a dumpster fire when the gay wedding aired I'd say the later is the correct answer. >The songs are good, though Agree. The songs and the background art are the only two things that stay constantly good along the entire series. Sadie's VA voice actress signs terrible, but she's the exception, most songs are solid. >>39505 A matter of taste, I guess, I think Deedee Magno songs are pretty good, and the only thing I don't like from casting Ebersole and Lupone is that they don't get to sing way more. Heck, people were hyping Christine Ebersole when she got casted as WD but she didn't get so sing on the series, only on the movie.
>>39531 I have no idea who any of these people are....
>>39531 The power levels and the actual abilities the characters have are incredibly inconsistent throughout the series. Lapis should've been able to beat the shit out of Jasper with her water powers but the writers decided on the fusion thing instead when that wasn't necessary. Aquamarine is able to easily overcome all the Crystal Gems but then when she's fighting against Steven with that Ruby, they act like she's a joke. I get the picture that those sorts of details were overlooked in favor of the emotional beats, which don't even 100% work, either.
>>39532 Steven Universe's voice actresses, Deedee voices Pearl, Ebersole voices White Diamond and Pati Lupone voices Yellow Diamond.
>>39505 Bro the music is 25% of why this show was ever popular. I know taste is a thing but come on.

>>39555 He's not wrong. The official uploads of Stronger Than You have dozens of millions of views and it pretty much became a meme to make alternative versions of said song which also had millions of views. The series got really catchy music, that's the main reason why a lot of people got into it in the first place and as I pointed out before it's one of the very few elements that stays constantly good along the entire show. >>39553 Of course, the show is not good, but we are talking about the songs in specific and not the show as a whole. >>39556 >>39561 Pearl is not for lewd!

>>39571 >millions of views Nice try, you can loop youtube videos in discord.
>>39573 Just like any other song, what's your point? >>39572 I feel very bad for birdmon. Sucrose introduced a subplot about getting psychologically abused by Rose and turned into an terrorist, but then she didn't do shit with it; one episode she just showed up and she was like "I'm okay now, here are my hippy friends"; she didn't deserve such mediocre character development.
>>39571 The songs are also just not good.
>>39579 Why do you think the songs are not good?
>>39580 Because they're... not good? I don't know what you're hoping to here. It's all ukulele hipster music with no melody or skill behind it or terrible attempts at rock music when it isn't trying to be sad. None of it hints. None of the singers sound good. Spinel's songs are the closest to being good but that's in the movie so it doesn't count either. It'd be like complimenting the animation for the movie animation done by Trigger.
>>39577 For all the focus on emotional stuff, Sugar did a shit job with half the cast's development.
>>39580 They're shit, plain and simple. Take the chorus of a 70s pop song. File off all the good or interesting parts. That's the melody for your lead vocals. For the whole song. Add bare minimum background tunes that make elevator muzak feel engaging. Add some bleeps and bloops if you feel really daring. Write all the lyrics in the most stilted, I'm-12-years-and-I-just-started-writing manner you can. Remember: repeat early, repeat often. If it sounds like a broken record, you're on the right track. Make sure none of the vocalists exceed the passion levels of a 43 year old retail worker on their evening shift at the cash register at any moment in the recording booth. The fact that anyone even likes that crap is a testament to how pop music is dead and buried. Just like the show's animation, the songs aren't bottom of the barrel. They're scraped together from the chamber pot some comedian put next to the barrel.
>>39583 That's the failing of the Adventure Time "Let the show runners throw shit at the wall until something sticks" approach to writing. Remember there was one bitch who was trying to make the show a vehicle for her fanship until Sugar finally tard wrangled her. Now imagine how many speds (Including Becky herself) went unchecked in the writer's room.

>>39607 >taking advice from Ian taking advice from Kent Butterworth It's interesting, because according to IMDB Kent hasn't animated since the 90s. However, he's credited as being a timing director and storyboard artist for many things since. "Recognizing the character" is the bare minimum for storyboards, which may be what he wanted to say. Anyways, in all my long 15 minutes google search, I couldn't find the actual quote "If you can recognize the character, it's 'on model'." It may have been in the context of the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog for which he was a director, and referring to Milton's design for Robotnik, cartoonishly expressive. But that's a specific cartoon and a specific context which is lost in Ian's alledged quote
>>39634 He could've gotten a job in the industry after all. >>39637 They're once again ignoring the circumstances while grasping at straws: DiC made half-assed cartoons as long the license of such IP was relevant enough, the times their animations did look competent enough was because of the japanese or the taiwanese getting involved.
