Johnny Hardwick, voice of Dale Gribble on ‘King of the Hill,’ Anonymous 08/10/2023 (Thu) 17:29:33 No. 36012
>According to the outlet, Hardwick was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have yet to issue an official cause of death. >However, police did report that they do not suspect any foul play. >The Post reached out to Hardwick’s reps for comment. >Hardwick began his rise to stardom in 1990 as a stand-up comic in Texas before eventually landing a gig on “The Jon Stewart Show.” >The Lone Star State native later immortalized himself in television history with his work as conspiracy theory-obsessed Dale in the Fox comedy “King of the Hill,” which premiered in 1997. https://archive.md/Dr10V
Well God damn, that's a bummer. Right after King of the Hill was starting to take off again too. RIP.
>>36012 Man this is terrible. Only 64 & already after the show has lost two major character voices. Before the revival's even come out too.

POCKET SAD :( Damn, the feds got him! The man did this to him! R.I.P Terry "Toon" Davis, AKA Johnny Hardick, AKA Dale Gribble.
>>36012 RIP.
>>36013 >>36014 >Actually being excited about the revival Why? KotH ended on a high note, and I sincerely doubt modern networks would allow the old even handed treatment of practically realistic conservative caricatures that make up the KotH cast.
>>36019 Doesn't matter if you're excited or not. It was happening but who knows now.
>>36020 >Doesn't matter if you're excited or not This is /co/. I think people's feelings about cartoons matters here.
>>36022 Now you're taking this too literally.
>>36023 Honestly, I think one or both of us misinterpret what was said. You said it doesn't matter if anons are excited or not, because it was going to happen regardless until VAs started dying, but nobody ever said those two things were connected.
>>36027 No but you are making connections where there are none. It is/was happening regardless of any of our thoughts on the idea. Now the whole thing is probably in question due to a major voice actor's death. Is that clear enough?
>>36012 I think it's also worth bringing up Dale's prototype character whose VA passed away 3 years early.
>>36029 > you are making connections where there are none > It is/was happening regardless of any of our thoughts on the idea. I never said it wasn't. You made that connection where that was none. I was asking why anons were acting excited for it in the first place, because the way they presented their posts was that a continuation would have been a good thing.
>>36036 >I was asking why anons were acting excited for it in the first place You literally are repeating another connection you made out of nowhere.
>>36012 Disney would’ve rewritten out Dale anyways. It’s for the ever.

>>36089 >King of the Hill was FOX property <Later bought by Disney It seems they're putting Mike Judge and Greg Daniel in tight leashes, not even Viacom was this strict on the Beavis and Butthead reboot despite the diversity hires.
>>36031 >Look up this show <Adult animation <1972-1974 >Try to look up early attempts at adult cartoons broadcasted on TV >Nothing is listed in Aeon Flux in the 90's Does anyone know of any of the other "early" adult/mature cartoons broadcasted on TV?
>>36329 There was the skit show also produced by Hanna-Barbera studios, inspired by the failed MadTv tv pilot.
>>36329 The Flintstones was originally conceived as an adult show (Not surprising considering it's an animated version of The Honeymooners with cavemen) Hence the ads for Winstons cigarettes. Hanna-Barbera did try again with a show I think was called the Roman Holidays,
>>36332 >Back then, it was a mature cartoon >Nowadays it's considered to be a children's cartoon <For now
Was he vaxxed?
>>36335 The original episodes of The Flintstones are still more all ages primetime comedy. As the series went on, it slowly became more kiddified, what with the introduction of Dino, Pebbles, Bam Bam, Gazoo, etc.. However, the original run of the series was still pretty much an all ages comedy. Then Hanna-Barbera started a decades long series of sequel shows, and those were for kids. The Pebbles and Bam Bam show might have had them be teenagers, but obviously it was tweens watching it. By the '80s you have The Flintstone Kids, clearly for much younger children. Though it is cool that basically this original run of sequel series ends with an early '90s tv special where Pebbles and Bam Bam get married, so there is a degree of continuity. Sort of. Kind of.
>>36349 Weren't like 90% of Hanna-Barbera cartoons basically sitcoms from the 50s and 60s with talking animals as stand ins for back-then famous people?
>>36418 Yes, The Flintstones = The Honeymooners Top Cat = Sgt. Bilko/The Phil Silvers Show Scooby Doo has an original premise, but the human characters are all based off of ones from The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis
>>36418 Yogi Bear was based heavily on Ed Norton from The Honeymooners, and various characters in George of the Jungle were based on radio personalities.
>>36460 Note that Barney Rubble is also Ed from The Honeymooners. Also, Scooby Doo pretty much has the same catchphrase as Fred Flintstone.
>>36459 Thanks for filling me in. I find it funny though that they're still well remembered as characters, perhaps because the writers had the restraint of not making them go "WOW DOES THIS REMIND YOU OF ANYTHING, AUDIENCE?"
