Fritz The Cat Anonymous 04/20/2025 (Sun) 02:15:42 No. 46865
Watched this movie for the first time today. It was pretty good. Fritz is retarded and it's fun watching him screw everything up. Some of the transition sequences were really long for some reason. The Neo-Nazi terrorist gang at the end came out of nowhere and I'm not sure why Fritz helped them bomb a power station, but I thought the lizard-girl Nazi was hot.
>>46865 Yeah it's a bit disjointed as it's more of ride Robert Crumb hated it to the point of killing Fritz in his comic
>>46865 Raw next question.
>>46865 Ralph Baskhis work is great and it shows a darker side to the Americano experience that isn't drenched and veiled in positivity. In multiples of his movies, he has everyday recordings of people and directly injects them in transitional scenes. He really doesn't put anyone or any group on a pedestal and kind of shows everyone is an asshole no matter who they are. Fritz is just a horny 20 something year old who sees life is kind of a joke, has a superiority complex because he thinks he's the enlightened one of some quasi-revolution. Movies like Heavy Traffic is good too, but my favorite is Wizards (War Wizards).

>>48269 I've been watching a lot of Bakshi films recently and I've enjoyed all of them. That guy sure can draw a babe. So far I've watch Wizards, Fire and Ice and Fritz. I think I'll watch Coonskin next.
>>48334 I forgot Fire and Ice, that's another REALLY good one too.

>>48335 Ended up watching Heavy Traffic instead of Coonskin, I'll watch that later. Heavy Traffic is good, Little bit confusing, especially around the end, but I had fun. It's better then Fritz. Carole is a foxy mama and my new waifu. The movie gets really artsy, the scene with godfather was crazy and Micheal getting his brains blown out was metal.

>>48717 Oh nice a Bakshi thread, I don’t think there will be much opposition when I say his later work really pales in comparison to his early work, I watched Hey Good lookin 2 years ago and the whole time I thought of how much better Heavy Traffic is.
>>48717 Man if you thought Heavy Traffic was a bit disjointed Coonskin is going to be an absolute trip if you haven't seen it.
>>48802 >>48718 Did his Coney Island project ever get released?
>>48806 Yes, the mad old bag delivered 8 years ago. link hxxps://ok.ru/video/1829447600687
>>48812 Good lord it looks like ass.
>>48717 I think in Coonskin, the Godfather is far more interesting, especially visually and the parts were nutty asf, and his flaming gay sons. I think in Coonskin a lot of Bashki's style really blossoms, same with Heavy Traffic and Wizard. In Heavy Traffic, I think there is also some quasi-religious karma going on because once the protagonist Micheal commits the act of murder when his girlfriend and him rob and kill that guy under the pretense of prostitution, things start going down hill very fast from there for him. There's also this weird underpinning of the mother trying to seduce the son with her tits coming out constantly, showing her being really inappropriate and almost incestuous with emotional-incest, this is really solidified near the ending when she's drunk at the club trying to get him to look at her in proactive ways and then lamenting her life. I love Bashki's work because it doesn't dress up life as fun, it shows life is gritty and violent, and not a Disney movie.
>>48815 Yeah, also wasn't this a one man project and this was one of his last projects before he passed away? Can kinda be forgiven. It's not like he was a master of polished visuals to begin with.
I was surprised to find out a lot of old Warner, Fleischer and Disney people worked on this movie.
>>48869 Ralph Bakshi is still alive
>>48867 >I love Bashki's work because it doesn't dress up life as fun, it shows life is gritty and violent, and not a Disney movie. That is perhaps the most Leddit take I have ever seen on what makes a film "mature" or "great".
>>48887 Is he, I thought he passed away?!!??
>>49093 He’s still kicking at the ripe age of 86.

>>48802 I watched Coonskin. You were right about it being disjointed, but I liked the set up of it being an old man telling a story from the beginning. Brother Rabbit was really good as the main character, Preacher Fox was kinda annoying, but he had his moments and Brother Bear was a bit boring. Overall I thought it was really good. Miss America isn't in the movie as much as I thought she'd be. She's mostly used in little vignettes as a metaphor that Brother Rabbit uses. I'm not familiar with the original Br'er Rabbit stories, so I'm not sure if missing something from those, but overall I enjoyed the movie.
>>49226 >I'm not familiar with the original Br'er Rabbit stories Song Of The South does a pretty good job adapting them >so I'm not sure if missing something from those The entire "point" of Coonskin is that's it's another movie about how the "Poor Dindu Nuffin niggers" are being prevented from succeeding because of "evil white" America, despite the fact that the entire movie is about the "three Brothers" being ultra-violent wackos. And the movie even ending on the note of the "real" versions of the characters breaking out of prison.
