Please God don't let me start.
Shit too late. Spoilers for Project Neural Cloud.
In Girls Frontline 1 there has always been a completely non-canon (for you) aspect. You can marry your dolls just like in GFL2 and you get a cute little cutscene. Canonically, HK416 is fucking psychotic and has a superiority complex so her going, "I am all you need" isn't sexual - its her being fucking insane. This has been flanderized over time (Even though I find it incredibly hot). Overall, your dolls in GFL1 viewed you quite favorably as well because you're one of the few people who treated them as sentient beings with wants and needs. There are definitely dolls that want to fuck you, but its stuck in the semi-canonical aspect that afflicts all gacha games with 300 girls to pick from. Taking JUST the main story, you're a good commander, and a beacon of hope for the impressionable doll minds. Implications and nuance can take that multiple directions, but if you're an adult who has worked with women & men before you understand that it is likely almost wholly professional for (most) things.
The prequel Project Neural Cloud has a (for you) doll named Persicaria, because... that is the entire plot of the game. Unironically. Persicaria is (for you) and this is how she is shaped into a leader and person (by you). You even fuck. Multiple times. There are also a few other dolls who are (for you) but its so stupendously funny how they get shafted by Persicaria that it feels like the thematic thrust was to laugh at the idea of having multiple (for you) characters, and nearly all of them end up getting turned towards other aspects of their characters. Maybe that's me reading into it too much and being pretentious, but the game ends and begins with Persicaria. No one else. It is not even fucking close, no matter how much I like Hubble.
GFL2 has the same non-canon marriage mechanics from GFL1 & PNC, but every doll is RABID for the commander in-story. Take for instance, Jiangyu and Daiyan. They are in all 3 games, and in PNC they're shown to be FIERCELY loyal to one another. So much so that Daiyan essentially tells you to eat a dick if you don't help her find Jiangyu in PNC. Jiangyu & Daiyan in GFL2 pretty much immediately offer to destroy their squad that they have been traveling with for 10 years to join back up (with you). This happens, multiple times with multiple dolls taking pretty drastic measures to stop everything and come visit.
This is a stark contrast to the rest of the series because the entire point of... most of the games is to show that the dolls are actually sentient and have their own goals / desires / etc, That they would kill (and DO kill people) to reach those goals. In GFL2, the goal is (you), while you in the actual main story just... kind of do fuck-all right now unfortunately.
Personally I hate it and it isn't why I've played GFL for years and years, but hopefully the writers get their groove and steer the ship away from the nearby jagged cliffs.
>tl;dr GFL2 is the new wave of (for you) games with writing tailored towards that, akin to Nikke.
