All deserved. And it survives because of the genuinely good card gameplay. They weren't lying about that.
The supposed NTR controversy is overblown, but most of the rest really happened and was admitted in the stream aside the AI allegations, which were denied.
**They hired a gook newbie that was popular for writing a Lovecraft Isekai WN, and hired a bunch of E7 writers, the retarded producer prided himself before launch on the game having 10 writers.
Then the rumors, confirmed true later, were that they bullied the newbie. It was even worse: the Producer's constant intervention forced him to rewrite the story (scrapping the original Time Loop plotline that is repeatedly alluded in the trailers) 4 to 5 times until he finally quit. The producer admitted on stream he thought he could handle it himself (implying he was the one that wrote one of the vacuum chapters).**
After getting criticism for that in the beta, they hired a guy that wrote in Starseed to write Chapters 6 onwards but obviously this didn't include the current story that only goes to chapter 5.
He wrote the epilogue to it though, re-implementing the Time Loop plotline because he has some modicum of decency. And while a small scene, it's actually good
The game suffered all the shitstorms you know of due to that. The quality after the Prologue is varying levels of shit aside Renoa's Trauma Code which is good, Chapter 4 in particular is the piece of shit that is accused for NTR because it centrals around the boy Owen and everyone encouraging him (Owen is just a symptom, everyone in that chapter become ridiculously retarded but encouraging him to keep trying. The actual controversy should be how it has the quality of a Sakurai FGO chapter)
After the infamous damage control apology stream, he got doxxed by gooks and released this apology post. Again apologizing for scrapping the original story and saying it will be re-implemented in Chaos (the roguelite mode) while the main story is rewritten.**
So that's why gooks have been attacking it so much. They had a good writer, by nepotism they fucked him over, got rid of him and then had to pick up the pieces. The newbie's tales continue however. Remember the Blue Archive controversy that led to Project KV and a ton of poaching that screwed their dev team? Well after he was fired from working in CZN he ended up hired to work in Blue Archive, at very least being an artist in charge of Summer Ichika, but he is also listed in working in the Summer Promise event. He basically had the kind of wish fulfillment arc you'd only see in one of those
I was Kicked from the Hero's Party self-insert WN, being kicked from a company, hired into a well-loved one and seeing the previous get into deep shit because they kicked him away
