Well I guess that was it. I'm now gonna blogpost and vent like a faggot, feel free to hide it.
I think this is the first event where I can actually understand the chinks reaction. Even as an event, while it had some very high highs, it had some of the most retarded decisions I've seen on this game. I can't imagine how pissed I'd be if I thought this was the last content I'd ever play from GF1.
It's not the worst event they ever made. Hell it's better than AW at least. It's also better than IF and CarTh. But it leaves me with a bitter taste, more than anything else in chapter 15.
You could really tell they were rushing towards the end. The hospital scene with Px4 dying was probably everything they had ready before they got the EoS notice, because everything after that was just blitzing as quickly as possible. Shit that would've been explored for pages of text in other events only got 1 or 2 phrases.
I liked SKK playing the hero saving lives instead of being a combatant. Marina parts were also excellent and I hope we get more mentions of her in the future and in GF2. Even though it's wasn't really a battle, more like a bombing run. I don't think we call it the Battle of Dresden, so it's a little silly to not call it the Bombing of Frankfurt.
Overall, I think the biggest tragedy of this event is how little the dolls appeared. They are the reason we play the game, and have been invested for years. And almost none of them got more than a few lines, even very important dolls. I know some of them already had the spotlight earlier in chapter 15, but this is the ending. Also this event would've felt a lot more interesting if we got to see the fight at Moscow, but again, the EoS surprise probably fucked that too.
The Lunasia parts were fine, but I feel like this franchise deserved an ending that was simpler and more grounded. I would probably like the ending a lot more if there was more fighting inside the white zone and we actually got to kill willy. I also don't like they just decided to have probably the most important part of the event in some random lab that means nothing to anyone. Could've at least made Lunasia bullshit our way to the garden M4 and Elisa used to see. Would've been a nice callback.
Also, was the 6 million sacrifices something present in the CN version? I can't tell if it's a shitpost by TLanon or they really wrote the fucker named oberstein needs 6 gorillion lives for his sacrifice.
Now I'm gonna talk about Nele.
I really didn't mind Nele before this event. Even before the conversation with Lunasia, I thought she was just a bad focus but, while detrimental because other parts of the cast didn't get the spotlight they deserved, I could understand why they wanted to show her. Showing how even small differences can lead to vastly different paths. I disagree with the decision and think the message isn't worth giving her multiple nodes on the ending of a decade long story, but sure. Her scenes with J were fun too.
But that scene with her killing SKK felt like a personal attack. I've waited since january 2024 to see Willy get murked. That L2D and RC were the two things that kept me interested during those times when chinks were raiding the threads. And then I got to see that Nele got the exact scene I wanted, but with her using SKKs makarov, to kill HIM. SHE was the one that got to magdump someone, and that someone was the MC you play as. Yes this is schizo tier rambling and yes, it was a different timeline, but Jesus Christ. How did no one tell the writers to fuck off?
Also why the fuck did they thought it was a good idea to place that node where she's running from stasi with amaris right in the middle of Lunasias story revelations? That was probably the biggest tone whiplash I've ever seen on this franchise. Any other event like MS or LS would've had that moment be a post ending scene, not something in the middle of the climax of the event. Imagine if they cut SKK escape with Machlian just to show the video tape they sent to the base instead of it being something shown after the ending.
Also also, why was Nele so important that she was one of the 3 people mentioned as important to Lunasia? Like, what part of her cares about Nele?
Overall it's like a 6/10 event with some very good parts, and a 3/10 ending that does very little at giving a satisfying conclusion. I'm gonna click reply because the more I think, the more I want to write and this shit is already 4x larger than I wanted it to be.
