One 4chan /pol/ board on Telegram has more than 5,000 members. Now this was written in 2019, and we know that in the following year the attacks on Telegram began, and Discuck was coopted by literal furfags and trannies in the moderation. Knowing how the (((media))) operates, this article was written as part of the lead-in to those censorship efforts. But if the assessment in this article is accurate, and it probably is, then I think we've solved the mystery of the missing anons. When 8chan died, most of our anons set up shop away from imageboards. Specifically on "next gen" chat apps Telegram and Discord. 8kun never got the numbers that 8chan prime had, meaning many of those anons didn't bother coming back for it, and it was only 5 months after this article was written that the lolipocalypse happened and this place came into being. Somewhere out there, in a bunch of encrypted Telegram chats and Discord rooms, are the thousands of anons that we lost after 2018.

Funny you mention Skype, as that was the program most people I knew(at least in Easter Europe) when it came to socializing and hosting online game parties. That and teamspeak, if you needed more people in a call, but Skype also allowed messages and image/file sharing. Now when Discord came out, I had a friend who jumped on the bandwagon, and bragged about how he convinced a social group he was a part of to ditch Skype and go on Discord, and I imagine this has happened with other people as well.
