Beauty. Some say it's in the eye of the beholder. I've witnessed many forms of beauty. From the blessed people of Uttarakuru, to the fertile sacred virgins of Freya, to minor Devas and exotic Nagas.
But right now, all of that pales in comparison to what I'm seeing. A curvaceous behind that would make a goddess of fertility blush, a bosom that could launch whole armies to war just to lay eyes upon, a silky hair like the night itself, accentuating the precious emeralds within her eye, all adorning her unbelievably flawless, sun kissed skin. In the woman before me, I've found the true meaning of beauty.
“PLEASE MARRY ME!” I blurted out without thinking properly. Damnit… My teacher would have slapped me for so quickly forgetting her lessons in the art of proper seduction.
Scheherazade took a few moments to process what The Foreigner had said. This man, the rumored hunter of Divs and emanation of the Yazata, a veritable hero like the ones in the stories that captivated her her whole life, had just… proposed to her!? “I… uh, a-a…” for the first time in the storyteller's life, words failed her.
The entire delegation looked just as stunned. Though her father seemed to seriously consider such a proposal.
The man cleared his throat “So, I've heard your most illustrious city has been beset by a beast most foul” He started, as if his impromptu marriage proposal didn't happen “And your king has asked for my assistance in dealing with this problem, yes?”
The reminder of their duties forced her to regain composure, though she couldn't wipe away the deep blush in her face “Yes. King Shahryar wishes to discuss this matter with you as soon as possible.” they wouldn't want to delay too much and risk the consequences of Shahryar’s foul temper “We can negotiate your reward for this task on our way to the palace.”
“Very well. Though I must say” He looked at her with those smouldering golden eyes of his “The sights this kingdom offers is compensation enough”
[Expand Post] And with that, the delegation started to make their way. The storyteller's usually calm and collected heart hammering wildly against her chest.
[2200BCE - Egypt]
“Punishment, for disrespectfully playing with the seat of the Pharaoh. Who is an absolute ruler and worthy to be a god” Pharaoh Nitocris said, as spirits of the dead poured forth like a torrent from her mirror.
“Punishment, for laying your treasonous hands on my beloved brothers” The floor was covered in a black substance, the restless death swimming in it, and dragging the living to the other side.
In moments, the deed was done. All the people who dared taint the seat of the gods were dead. All except for one. Nitocris took one step forward, towards the black pool of death.
“Brothers… I'm sorry. I'm unworthy of being Pharaoh.” She stood on the edge. With a heavy sigh, she—
“NO.” A voice, imperious and godly, boomed in her ears “I WILL NOT HAVE IT.”
“THE SONS OF ASHUR MASSACRE THE PEOPLE OF KEMET. THE SONS OF JUPITER SUBJUGATE THE PEOPLE OF EGYPT. THE SONS OF EL PRAY FOR THE DEATH OF THE SONS OF EGYPT.”
A miniature sun with a snake surrounding appears in front of Nitocris. “I WILL NOT HAVE IT”
“JOURNEY WITH THE CHAMPION OF THE FOREIGN SUN. ENTHRALL IT. BIND IT TO YOU.” a massive open sarcophagus springs forth from the earth, and trapped her within it “AND MAKE EGYPT GREAT AGAIN.”
With that command Nitocris fell into a long, long slumber.
[940 BCE - Near Israel]
The Queen of Sheba let out a sigh. “I hope the rest are okay” she said, while petting her precious dromedary.
A sudden sandstorm had formed, separating her from her entourage. Luckily she stumbled upon an abandoned building to take refuge in.
Shaking off the sand in her hair and jewelry, the Queen waited patiently. Until finally, the strange sandstorm subsided.
“At last, i was soo bored~” she patted her camel to stand “Let's go look for the others, they couldn't have gotten fa—” but as they left the building, she heard it. Like thunder smashing the earth.
The queen saw a giant, serpentine monster on the horizon. And a man wrapped in a bright, golden aura was battling with it.
[700CE - Iran]
I soared through the sky, motes of solar essence concentrating in my hands and flowing to my spear. I crashed against the beast's head with earth shattering force.
It let out a deafening scream. Throwing me off with a tail swipe that sent me flying to the ground, then beast lunged at me bearing its fangs.
Swelling with valor, I reinforce every cell in my skin with seemingly limitless energy. The jagged, bull sized fangs simply bounced harmlessly off my arm.
The snake backed off, as if dumbfounded. And then it… smirked?
“HMmMm. YeS. We are cErTain. NoW.” It can also talk. “You Are tHe ONe We Have BeeN WaItIng” With a shriek, the serpentine creature started to arch and gag. With effort it threw up a bunch of slime on the ground. Alongside a giant Sarcophagus.
“OuR DeBt To HIM HaS BeEn pAiD. Do NoT cAll Us AGAIN” after giving me that vague statement, it slithered away towards the river and quickly disappeared on the currents.
Stranger things have happened to me. And most of the time they're just a prelude for a new adventure!
I quickly move towards the sarcophagus. Expecting to find some new artifact or a clue to my destiny. Instead, I found a brand new meaning of beauty. Hair of the most intoxicating purple, flawless, silky smooth skin, and a face carefully molded by the gods themselves.
The girl slept soundly within the sarcophagus, as if she hadn't been inside a giant monster’s stomach for who knows how long. “I better get you to the city quickly.” She might be poisoned, or cursed, or simply dehydrated.
With the girl in tow, I make my way towards my elephant, Alabaster. Until I notice a woman riding on a camel slowly approaching me.
….and then I'm hit with a THIRD meaning of beauty. What do they feed the people of this land!? Supple skin made of the primordial holy clay, eyes as blue as the sky itself, a pair of animal ears and a fluffy tail enticingly swinging from side to side, practically BEGGING to be thoroughly combed.
For some reason, those last two bits of hers feel oddly comforting. Don't know why.

And so the Golden Hero, Azir, defeated the dreaded serpent of Tigris. Earning the favor of King Shahryar. But not for long.
The king laid dead a week after. The remorseless killing of his own subjects earning the Hero's wrath. And so the savior of Tigris became the enemy of the Sasanians.
Though that didn't stop him. He eloped with the vizier’s daughter and the two misplaced queens, and the four traveled far and wide.
From the tombs of the kings of Egypt, where they found the magical solar barque. Where it took a considerable amount of convincing for Nitocris to let him pilot it.
To the Cedar Forest, where he laid his heart bare to his companions.
Afterwards, It is said that the thunderous exertions of the golden hero, and the blissful wailing of the three princesses could be heard continuously throughout the forest for 101 nights
To the nest of legendary Simmurgh, where he acquired the True Eternal Flower. It took a considerable amount of convincing for the Queen not to sell it off.
And beyond still. The storyteller, on her part, recorded the tales of their exploits with all the skill she'd cultivated. Unfortunately, the original texts were eventually lost. The story of Azir and the three princesses changing and warping as time went on.
