/hebe/ is a legacy board that has been around at least since 2014 on o.g. 8chan. It did have a legitimate CP problem and was the reason why 8chan.co had to be renamed to 8ch.net in 2015, but all of the CP posters moved onto masterchan at first, which has long since shutdown, and eventually to the deep web and I think some other surfaceweb community called triforce. Even though it was only an issue for a couple of months and wasn't any worse than facebook or reddit in the case of r/jailbait, it did enough reputational damage to have the site delisted from search engines, which many users including myself see as a boon. Since it wasn't actually a problem any more, /hebe/ continued to exist probably all the way up through 2019 when the website was deplatformed.
Mark created /v/ on 8chan.co in 2014 and had nothing to do with the creation of /hebe/ there or here as far as I know. The general idea is that anything goes on this site so long as it isn't illegal, so /hebe/ was allowed to be created and has literally never been an issue, mostly because nobody actually posts on it. It exists because it can, just to prove a point that people would rather chase at shadows than find out they're cast by puppets. Our motto for a decade now has been "Embrace Infamy." Anyone who is old enough to be bringing up /hebe/ knows better and is just trying to stir the pot.
With that said, there are actual reasons question Mark and the admins. He was a
paid moderator, if you can believe it, for 8kun and corralled most of the userbase to assemble once it was up despite this being as obviously stupid as Moses leading his people back to Egypt. He also has had temper tantrums, a large personality that has lead to some funny shit but can be obnoxious, and overall is just a character hard to take seriously. With THAT said, he has been the most resilient moderator on an imageboard I have seen and makes a good effort to undo any damage he may have caused. Nobody, not even his enemies, think Mark is a bad person, just an incompetent one, but this site wouldn't have lasted as long as it did or even exist if it weren't for his efforts.
Still don't like the guy, though.
