Tell me, anons. What Linux Distro did you eventually land on that stopped your distro hopping? And how long have you been using said distro?

>>20519 (OP) they all same: linux kernel+-systemd+comiled aapps store. Still no gaymes (wasting time to make it run vs run .exe on shitdoors), pirated software (meh no comments), driver issues (some passable but annoying as hell to deal with it), screen tearing enabled by default (* install kde, lol), audio shit by default (can be cured if you know how). I use GNU/systemd/linux only as server/crypted hentai folder >>20519 (OP)
>>20519 (OP) OpenSUSE Leap with XFCE. 3 years now.
Debian. It can be basically anything and is documented well.
CachyOS
>>20519 (OP) For my desktop I started with Arch, then eventually switched over to Debian, which I later transitioned to Devuan. I used the same system for 5+ years even as I copied the root FS to new disks. I recently switched to Guix since I'll have a need for easily reproduced environments. The learning curve is very steep though since there isn't a good beginner's book (that I'm aware of). I recommend Devuan if you just want a stable system.
>>20519 (OP) Fedora. It just works.
>>20519 (OP) no one can help you stop distrohopping because you need to find the one (you) like, everyone likes something different, so while I can tell you that I really like AlmaOS and that the red hat commands just werk, it's really that they just werk for me, and you're going to have a different experience Embrace the distrohopping phase, eventually you'll find your one and stop there
>>20519 (OP) Use windows
>>20578 Which spin of Fedora? >>20586 I have tried Fedora KDE and so far I am kind of liking it. My only problem is that it doesn't seem to include the timeshift thing Linux Mint has, and the commands seem to use different text too.

>>20536 >(can be cured if you know how) Please tell me how for the love of god. I got a laptop that just refuses to use 2 out of 3 speakers and I am running out of ideas
>>20519 (OP) There's no end, anon. I finally settled down on arch like a year and half ago, but nix seems to be the next big thing so I'm just waiting for hyprland to be stable on it and then gonna switch again.
>>20519 (OP) Mint with Xfce. Don't overthink it.
>>20604 >Which spin of Fedora? KDE is the best one imo. gnome is fine for old people I guess, but it's really limiting when you want to set-up things a certain way. Plasma is malleable as FUCK and that's really fun
>>20604 >and the commands seem to use different text too not sure what you mean here. do you mean you have to use different commands to update and things like that? that's just because mint and fedora use different package managers, so that's natural >it doesn't seem to include the timeshift thing Linux Mint has not installed by default but it's in the repos as "timeshift". just install it and you should be good to go
>>20619 its 100% alsa problem dig in this way, try this: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P3J1MPyiJkY&pp=ygUTbGludXggYWxzYSBubyBzb3VuZA%3D%3D

Also you can try use live cd of any os: non systemd void, artix works well (to instal them withrow pain use "ventoy" and separate usb flash drive). If you bored to hussle more, you can always install windows 10 LTSC with custom autoattend file: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TnYtA387P7A&pp=ygUZY3VzdG9tIHdpbmRvd3MgYXV0b2F0dGVuZA%3D%3D

I have 2 laptops for different reasons I've got my mainrunner with mint on it so I don't need to fiddle with much to play vidya. I'm sure there's other options, but I like it and it's a 1TB SSD so I'm not hurting for whatever space I can save or performance I can churn out of it. and I've got my school laptop running Arch XFCE4 because it's a fucking Dell Chromebook 3100 and taking ChromeOS off it saved me 8GB of it's precious 16GB of space. I looked into just using a window manager, and I'm pretty sure this is still smaller and easier unless I missed something.
>>20654 >do you mean you have to use different commands to update and things like that? Yeah that's what I mean. >not installed by default but it's in the repos as "timeshift". just install it and you should be good to go I just looked up "timeshift" and didn't get anything in the Discover function. Am I doing something wrong?
>>20702 I believe he means for you to open up the terminal and input the command "sudo dnf install timeshift" flatpak repos and Fedora's repo are different and I assume timeshift wouldn't work to well nested in a container. The syntax between the APT and the DNF package manager is basically the same though, Fedora seems a little smarter in how it work, as in it is a minor iteration how: sudo dnf update and upgrade do the same thing reducing the amount of commands needed to do a common thing on Fedora. But this is a retarded monkey's take on copy pasting curl command from github and noticing that apt segments the command chain into mommy may I, grab X, install X while DNF is just sudo dnf curl and all the prompts defaulting to no commands as it tells you that if you want to do something potentially dangerous.
distrohoppers have a boring sad life. i have installed archlinux with awesomewm back in 2015 and i haven't changed since then; it would take too much time to change and learn a new environment. i have stuff to do.
>>20764 I mean by definition distrohoppers lead an interesting life - they experience more distributions, I'm happy with my system but it would be nice to explore again
>>20519 (OP) Gentoo since 2004. >>20764 AwesomeWM also justwerks for me.
>>20769 no at all. they waste time on installing an os again and again instead of being productive.
>>20790 There is more to life than being productive fren
>>20519 (OP) Just use Linux Mint and call it a day.
>>20519 (OP) NixOS does it for me because I'm a schizo who has to constantly customize his operating system and do retarded shit that normal users don't do.
Use Arch Linux and ̶s̶t̶o̶p̶ start being a Fag!
>>20519 (OP) Never forget you're here forever
I starting asking myself why I'd want to move to whatever distro I was thinking of switching to over my current one. >What are the advantages and disadvantages? >Is it worth the time and effort? >what do I gain and lose on the other side? >Will something make me just want to hop again? >Will something make me want to go back to the distro I'm currently on? once or twice, I decided to hop anyway, but after that, when I thought about those questions, I wasn't convinced that it was a good enough idea, and I simply stayed where I am. now I've been using the same distro since 2019. ironically, I am actually starting to consider switching again, but that's only because the distro landscape itself has changed since 2019

>>20519 (OP) It literally doesn't matter, just pick one with a package manager you like and settle down.

>>20519 (OP) debian sid. Been on it for a couple years, has pretty much any package I want, with only a few minor hiccups here and there. Plus i'm too used to apt/dpkg to learn anything else.

>>20519 (OP) I started with Mandriva Free (picrel) in 2006-7 then switched to ubuntu in 2007-8 and timidly tried Debian the same year, i kept using both in tandem until i definitly moved on Debian (around Etch if i remember correctly) and then moved on Devuan after systemd introduction. I prefer staying in the oldstable branch because i like my OS like my wine: finely aged.
>>20519 (OP) Gentoo since 2003 or thereabouts. Started with Mandrake. For the DE (disregarding minor experiments) KDE 2 -> KDE 3 -> KDE 4 -> LXQt -> XFCE
did op ever cure his distrohopping?
Artix s6
It's funny, because the answer to distrohopping is always to try a new distro, but in order to try a new distro means hopping from one distro to another, it's just another hit, another injection of penguin meth pumped into his veins. Will OP ever be cured? with each new injection it becomes a little easier to do it again, "If I just change to this distribution it'll all be ok", again and again and again, you're a drug addict OP, you're chasing a dragon you're never going to reach, I can't save you only you can, until then you're a symbol to the youth of what not to be

Anything with GNOME. KDE is fine but I work incredibly fast with GNOME. Ubuntu is fine. You don't have to use snaps if you don't want to. Anything is fine as long as working with it works for you.
Reading this thread, the answer seems to be Debian with GNOME
>>22093 debian is a distro that causes distrohopping though. one hardware fuckup and youll start blissfully dreaming of a riced out bleeding edge distro.
>>20519 (OP) just follow the wiki from the top pinned post on this board and install gentoo :P

There is no cure, it's over
>>20519 (OP) just get a macbook
Mint for my laptop It's very comfy Manjaro for gaeming I hate it. Tried arch before but I was sick of stuff breaking and constantly looking up little fixes and tinker garbage. I hardly play games anymore though so whenever I'm sick of it I'll probably try endeavor

>>20519 (OP) Linux lite for my old Fujitsu Lifebook (2010) because it inly has 4 gigs or ram. Nobara Linux for my TV-PC because its gaming oriented and I like its theme. Still coping with a Win10 (O&OShutup10) on my main rig until summer because of my ongoing studies. Almost always its a question of: hardware, intention and tech literacy. I herd over most newcomers towards Mint. If a user tells me some things I might suggest Nobara. Bazzite = Desktop steamdeck PC Arch = Tinkerering and ricing distro I do not like default Ubuntu.
