How the fuck am I supposed to get a crt monitor? They've all been jacked up in price. I just want authentic scanlines to play old pc games with.
>>20850 (OP) What the fuck are you talking about? There are so many cheap CRTs literally everywhere. Stop browsing eBay, because that's where people sell to retro tendies
People get this backwards: scanlines are the lines that form the picture, not the dark gaps between them.
>>20850 (OP) Thrift stores for me, answering your question any better than that will ruin the results for others, just do your research and you'll find them, typically at the 20-50 dollar mark
i'm upset because there's often crt's at the recycling center but they legally can't even *sell* me one. fucking health and safety
>>20877 I don't think I've actually seen even one person say otherwise. Scan lines just don't fill all the gaps so we see the lines, hence the name.
>>20877 the authenticity comes from some games fucking with the analog signal in combination with there not being a concept of a physical pixel to achieve effects more so than scanlines. that or being able to display dark as fuck scenes. kinda overrated i think, but i have not used crt since childhood.
They cost like 20 bucks where I live >t. Thirdie
>>20850 (OP) You don't that's the thing

>>20850 (OP) I've used CRTs for far too long, and I've never seen scanlines on them. But the image tends to be dark, blurry and flickering, the device is large and heavy. I don't miss them. OTOH I'm considering switching to a narrowscreen LCD display, because terminal windows fit better.
>>20850 (OP) i really wish i didn't know the backstory that this artwork is about

>>22163 Whats it about?
I bought a 5291 terminal for 10 dollars the other day because it was in a thrift store owned by a woman, it is labeled broken in red paint or permanent marker and has a file manager from 1992 burned into the screen Trust me OP, you can do it, you just have to believe, and be willing to take advantage of the retardation of other people who would otherwise just throw this shit in the landfill Vaguely off topic but if anyone reading this knows where I can find some repair and operation resources for connecting this old lad to a modern pc without its base station I'd be much obliged
>>20850 (OP) Thrift stores and retards usually
Where the fuck are you anons finding good shit at thrift stores? Every store I've gone to is just full of old VHS tapes and dogshit e-waste alarm clocks. I couldn't even find a bicycle that wasn't for children.
