General Taiwan thread I'm going to Taiwan for the first time this summer. Staying in Taipei, but hoping to use the high speed rail to day trip along the west coast. Any anons do this? From end-to-end, about 2:15 h:mm/$50 USD each way. The cities I'm considering a daytrip are Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung, possibly catching some baseball games.

>2:15 each way to Kaohsiung Are you sure you want to do day trips with up to 5 hours transportation time? HSR stations aren't located downtown outside of Taipei. I'd check out if there's some capsule hotel or love motel to make it a two day trip instead.

The vast majority of what I have planned is in Taipei; I booked a hotel for the entire trip there. I might look and see if there's a cheap one night hotel in Kaohsiung. In general I should pare down my wants. Three day trips is a bit much for a 9-night trip. I can look into turning the Kaohsiung into a one-nighter and go to a baseball game, cut Tainan, and keep Taichung as a day trip. I will research some more.
