I miss practical effects forsenE 06/13/2025 (Fri) 10:05:17 No. 1252
CGI is clearly flawed; it can't recreate the feeling of practical objects. Everything feels like a polished sculpture or goo-y, lacking the fleshy and gritty feeling of practical effects. It is even more scuffed than practical effects. Compare John Carpenter's The Thing with the modern prequel. The modern 'The Thing' seems like spaghetti and a cranberry juice monster. But the 80s one actually had the feel of a terrifying flesh monster even though the movement was scuffed. Because everything needs to be done by computers these days, generating everything and ensuring it has the proper lighting, texture, and physics become difficult. In the early 2000s production used to have real objects and makeup that were used as foundation while the remainder of the details in a scene were rendered in. It felt real even though we know it was mostly generated. But today it is easily noticeable. This was simply a superior form of art.
>>1252 Practical VFX made a mainstay comeback like 13 years ago anon, and more directors readopt the practice every year.
>>1254 Nope, most monsters and technology is digitally created. Then explain why the fuck did Xenomorph look goo-y.
