regarding my two cents on the matter though, I don't think the case is multi-faceted, some people lack the time to continue doing stories, so they stop updating or update once in a blue moon and return to lurking, this is the same as artists, as writers block and burnout are hand in hand.
then there are people who as previously mentioned cannot block out the shit they don't like to see, so they end up seething, malding and rage quitting, i have seen this with again both writers and artists.
the third thing is extenuating circumstances, perhaps family issues, their PC bricks, they go off to uni, a wide range of things, as people move on. One that is semi common is they end up having a kid and that becomes their time sink, as real life should always come first.
The 4th is they die, this happens, though normally one of their friends online knows them well enough to make a blog post about it.
5th is they get found out by someone irl and it gets nasty. I have seen this several times, and the result is a gallery nuke, its more common with artists as their shit is easy to repost but it does happen with writers. This is most common with younger creators who live with their parents or are more social.
off the top of my head, this is the main cause, but it's a shame, as good writers are hard to find. I just know my gallery won't get nuked if i ever step away, as its not like i can purge over 1000 items off the internet, as they have been reposted to too many sites now.
