>Is it ethical to attempt to rekindle that relationship? My most pressing concerns are maintaining my own autonomy, given that she is stronger (or more adept now) than me, and how the intent of this second attempt at a relationship could play in to it.
On fringe many people work with spirits and when you work with spirits partial possession happens quite regularly. You will need to be able to set up your boundaries. Not just for you but for your spirit too. Those who work with spirits and still inexperienced usually go through freakouts. Try to avoid freakouts. If she truly cares about you she will agree to those boundaries that will help your spiritual growth and need for autonomy.
The human body houses many spirits and demons by default that you either inherited or got attached you because of your lifestyle. Spiritual practice is about getting rid of them and in some cases having a spirit that can help with that process is quite beneficial. If you fear the loss of your autonomy then talk it out with her and ask her how she can help you "feel safe". Personally I worked with many spirits and was partially possessed by them but if your energies start increasing too fast they cannot "keep up" anymore and your body just ejects them. Make sure that you never get into parasitic relationships and always ask yourself what is the purpose of your relationship. Make sure that you know what you want and never let lower desires or unwanted thoughts warp your actions. Not to mention housing some spirits within your body or psyche can be taxing for you and/or for the spirit if you are incompatible them. Always make sure that your relationship is as harmonic as possible. Spirit marriages and Mystical Unions are quite common in occultism.
>However, given the isolating nature of the relationship, as it was not something I could discuss irl without getting shipped off to a psych ward
Always make sure to mention this only to people who are "in the known" and only mention it to those you trust. Seen it happen many times that those who are being partially or fully possessed by their "lover" cannot shut up about them. But never truly isolate yourself from human interactions. Decide if you want to truly be with her or that you still require human interactions. Understanding the boundaries is crucial because when some people suddenly cut contact with human interactions for their spirit can get crazy after a while.
Always make sure that you have the chance to evolve physically and spiritually in the relationship. And figure out if you want to be with her forever or you just want to see where this leads. Some spirits want to take you to their world after you die and some just want company so they can do some "sightseeing" in the material world.
The only thing you need to make sure that you feel comfortable in this process. There are no clear ethics in this regard. While many religions "hate demons" in reality they usually favor their own demons and reject the rest. The Father The Son and The Holy Spirit. Making the cross on your chest is all about invoking them and housing them within your body. Accepting Jesus and Buddha into your heart is the same. Christ or Krishna consciousness is also about that. Just try to make sure you know what you are doing. If you have doubts don't do it if you are certain this is what you want then who can stop you?
Spirits can aid with your own self discovery while they can completely warp your self image if you don't have the necessary awareness while working with them.
Oh and you too can possess spirits if you are ballsy enough. Some of them like an assertive mate while others cannot stand it.
If you have further questions feel free to ask. Wanted to make a spirit work thread for a while but never knew where should I even start explaining it.
