It happens all the time even under Disney, as they attempt to salvage less popular rides, or older rides whose IPs aren't recognized by younger audiences anymore I actually hate that shit because it caused half of Disneyland to be closed down every time I went there due to them renovating the rides (This was back in the Aughts and in elementary school). But, I guess I was the target seeing as how I was one of the few kids who DID know about Swiss Family Robinson, Davy Crockett, and 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. Funny thing is that the best rides was always the non-IPs like Thunder Mountain and PotC (This was before the movie). I'm surprised Splash Mountain has stayed the way it is for so long, not because it's "offensive," but because it's become far more famous than the movie it is themed around. It being such a famous ride is probably why it has stayed the way it is for so long, but they've changed other rides that were also famous, and based on famous movies, despite fans liking the previous versions. I suppose Splash Mountain really is one of their most famous rides, though.

If anything, something I've noticed is that making these theme parks so IP-centric has actually done more harm to them than good. AFAIK, it seems like the only company that has managed to pull it off is Universal.
